"I Could Eat You Up, That's Greedy Love"

Good news everyone, Bobby Ray is coming out with a new album soon. If B.O.B.'s upcoming album stays the course as a Rock EP, this track below wouldn't make the cut, but it's available to download for free on his latest F*** 'Em We Ball mixtape. The reason why it's worthy of being sharing is because animation extraordinaire Andrey Shushkov provided a fun story visual to match the sentiment of Greedy Love...
I could see the track making some waves on radio as all the greedy pop lovers come out of the woodwork. Either way the visuals were well scripted and I can at the very least appreciate that. No word yet on when his new album is due out, but I'm intrigued at what it's going to sound like...#HustleGang

"I am Houston, Rep it Hard"

I'll be the first to admit, I didn't really know Beyonce was from Houston, Texas. Matter of fact, other than Kirko Bangz, there really hasn't been an R&B artist that has repped H-town and participated in the screwed and chopped movement. That all changed today when Houston as a collective came together to support Beyonce's new one off her upcoming Mrs. Carter album. Check the fan made video below for the original version of the track that will be on the album...

I Been On is proof that no matter who you are, you can embody the tough "Houston" sound with a little screwed/chopped treatment. I never thought I'd say the words, "man that new Bey track is tough!", but today that happened thanks to help from Houston All-Stars Bun B, Z-Ro, Willie D of Geto Boys, Slim Thugga, and Lil Keke. Oh and in case you missed it, Beyonce is about to begin touring the globe, so there's a good chance she'll be coming somewhere near you...#IBeenOn

Videos of the Week March 29th

I gotta admit, I'm starting to be won over by Fall Out Boy's recent comeback effort. There's no denying that their new music is full of energy and chalked with the vigor of their early albums. Other than that, Jimmy Kimmel had some great Hip Hop acts on his show over the past week and for some strange reason I was really entertained by Skrillex kickin' it with random impoverished Dominican kids. I'm not sure whether he stands out more as a member of A$AP Rocky's posse or as a visitor of the Dominican slums. It was still cool to see Skrillex in his element in the booth toward the end of the video...#WildForTheNight

"Love and Respect for My Peers, Man"

Wait a minute, Danish electro pop meets Atlanta Hip Hop? Say whaaat? Count me in for that craziness, especially when the end result is something that sounds like Cypress Hill. When Saints Go Machine's new one featuring Killer Mike has a grimy, 90s rap sounding head nod worthiness to it that's throwback as hell. Check the obscure video below for the track...

Who in the world knows how this collaboration came to be, but it's pretty dope in it's own right. And Killer Mike isn't afraid to shout them out either...
Even better, they managed to get the track on US iTunes, which is no small feat and something a lot of European artists forego. Can't say whether or not these guys will be a one hit wonder on the blog, but they've surved their purpose today and their upcoming album Infinity Pool might be worth a listen when it drops in late May...#LoveAndRespect

Avicii's World Collaboration

I'm a little late on posting the culmination of Avicii's worldwide collaboration track X You. The video below does a superb job with the visuals on how the track came together...
The Avicii X You as whole was a pretty awesome crowdsourced event that I hope a lot more artists do in the future. The only thing super annoying about the collabo below is that it's not available in the US to download on iTunes. But if you want to pay in euros, check out the Ireland iTunes store. Even better, the song used to be available for free download until it reached it's download limit on Soundcloud. It's not of Avicii's best, but it's definitely his most creative and I don't doubt for a minute that he worked for hours trying to piece it all together...#AviciiXYou

"You and Me, Got the Chemistry"

All I really need to see on this one was Eva Simons...new single...produced by RedOne. There's no doubt, Eva is one of the rising stars of pop EDM and her new promo single should start creating some serious buzz for her yet to be titled debut album. Even better, just last week it was announced she'd be opening for Beyonce on her Netherlands leg of The Mrs Carter Show World Tour. Hmm...wonder if that will help her buzz?

No word yet on when Eva's debut is scheduled to drop, but if you're in the mood for an upbeat, radio friendly track to add to your most recent cardio playlist, she's got you covered...#Chemistry

"Hold on Steady, Ladies and Gents...Here it Comes"

As Emeli Sande continues to ascend into greatness, she's reminding me more and more of the Queen of R&B, Alicia Keys. Vocally they're on another planet, as evidenced by Emeli's new one below off the upcoming Danny Boyle produced Trance movie. Yes, that's the same Danny Boyle that did the latest Olympics opening ceremony, Slumdog Millionaire and 28 Days Later.

First off, pump the brakes if you're expecting a trance song below just because it's going to be on the Trance soundtrack. Here it Comes is more like a jubilant, uplifting (think Lion King), mellow ballad that Emeli exercises every inch of her vocal chords on. It's got a swanky, tribal, upscale lounge sounding beat put together by Rick Smith of the English electronic band Underworld. Wait, I know why it sounds like the Lion King now, he did the score to the movie, which usually implies extravagant orchestra and complex sound layers. Literally, the light just went off as I was writing and listening to the track. Anyways, the movie comes out on April 5th and features the talented and sexy Rosario Dawson...#Trance

Time For Avicii to Get Free

Might as well keep the Major Lazer train going this week since they're consistently dropping awesome new music that is free to download. Today they released a new four track EP titled Lazer Strikes Back Vol 3. via twitter...
On first thought, they have gotten a ton of mileage out of Get Free. They first released the original Get Free video for it in August, then shortly after in September I posted J Cole's version of Get Free, which was dope in a Hip Hop sense of the word. This time, Avicii took at shot at remixing the well traveled track and the end result was interesting to say the least. It's creative in the sense that it takes elements of the original and rearranges them with an uptempo beat behind it. It's like taking the cookies out of cookies and cream, then mixing it with cream again, producing a slightly different flavor. Know what I'm sayin? Either way, Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors continues to steal the show and shine bright to carry the track again, months later...#LazerStrikesBack

"For Once There is Nothing Up My Sleeve"

I'm about two months tardy on the track below, but I don't watch the HBO Original Series Girls and my exposure to pop music is limited, so tracks like Fun.'s Sight of the Sun sometimes slip by the goalie. Even worse, I'm guilty for not giving Fun.'s latest classic effort, Some Nights, the publicity it deserves. Luckily, the Grammy's had my back, so now they're a household name, but I fear that the track below slipped through the cracks since it hasn't made it to radio or been prominently featured on an album.

As a quick aside, you may not have noticed that they are going on an epic world tour this summer. I say epic because they had to zoom out to the globe view to mark all of the places they are going this summer. Sadly, they have yet to mix their new ballad below to their set lists, but I'm betting that may change once the US part of the tour starts...#SightOfTheSun

Videos of the Week March 22nd

Admittedly, I'm a little Timberlake heavy this week, but deservedly so, he's awesome. Considering he's estimated to sell between 850,000-900,000 records the first week that The 20/20 Experience hits shelves, it's pretty clear there is a gaping hole in American R&B music right now that needs to be filled. He's more than doing his part, but there's plenty of capacity for more.

By far, the coolest video of the week was watching Kendrick Lamar's extremely humbling experience of hearing Jigga hop on his remix for BDKMV. Not only did his closest friends keep it under lock and key for a week before they showed him, they filmed his reaction, which was priceless. Like you can tell as the verse builds he's awestruck by it all and the best he could come up with was "that's grimy." Really cool to watch and see how much he clearly respects those who came before him...#BDKMV

"No Guns Are Allowed in Here Tonight"

Even though fans of Hip Hop will never fully get used to referring to The Doggfather as Snoop Lion, his gradual transition into the realm of reggae is gaining steam. Without a doubt, the best decision he has made throughout his transition from Hip Hop to reggae was to enlist the production help of Major Lazer on his upcoming album Reincarnated. That point couldn't be emphasized enough on his new waaaayyy cooled out track below featuring a verse from Drizzy and Snoop's daughter Cori Broadus.

With current events like the never ending gun violence in Chicago and gun legislature dominating newscasts, it's a little refreshing to hear the other side of the story ever now and then. Sure, it's one new track amid a sea of many, but with the high powered names on the track, hopefully it will serve as a reminder that there is another perspective out there. The best part about the track is that it produced a thoughtul, introspective verse from Drake, which has been a rarity in the past twelve months. As long as you don't expect to hear Bob Marley or Johnny Osboure when you listen to Snoop Lion, you're going to be impressed when Snoop gets Reincarnated on April 23rd...#NoGunsAllowed

"I'm Learnin' Fast That Recognition is its Own Drug"

"You there when it's bright, better be there when it's dark
You wasn't there for the ride, don't be there when I park"

When @JoeBudden is depressed and/or going through some trials and tribulations personally, that can only means good things for his music. Similar artists like @ducidni, @eminem and @drake have emotional expression embedded in their musical DNA, which results in inspirational, deeply personal verses that have always struck a chord with me. This may come off as wrong, but I'd much rather hear an artist wax poetic about why some chick broke your heart or how they were personally abused than hear about all the money, cash, clothes, and bottle poppin' they do on a daily basis. It takes balls to share your deepest inner personal thoughts, which is why artists that have the confidence to do it deserve more respect in my opinion than those who don't.

(gets down off high horse)...so the above preface leads nicely into Joey's new inner monologue Castles off his recent album No Love Lost. You can't teach the type of creative symbolism, metaphors and overall storytelling ability that he puts on display in his own melancholy way. Lord only knows if his life is as drama filled as he makes it seem, but the way he delivers it, I'd buy it. Y'all may not enjoy the depressing tone like I do, but ever since Whatever It Takes, I've been hooked. Check the visuals if you are so inclined...#MoodMuzik

"Keep Twistin' the Kaleidoscope of Colors"

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you're not down with the Fresh Aer Movement, you're missin' out. It doesn't get any more breezy, laid back and care free than the reggae-pop rhythms and soothing vocals of @theaermusic. The Boston duo's new single Take it Wrong continues their growing list of mellow hits that are slowly developing a cult-like following.

Matter of fact, today they released a free five song Strangers EP via Soundcloud, where you can cop it for free. Good music like this doesn't usually come at no cost, so enjoy the gift and don't be afraid of indulging in more fresh Aer...#Strangers

"Up in the Clouds, Me and My Spouse"

How do you continue the buzz on a classic album? Start accepting offers from Hall of Famers to drop verses on tracks that made the album what it was, an undeniable piece of Hip Hop art. On the original good kid, m.A.A.d city, the were three, count that three cameo verses on twelve tracks, which allowed a whole lot of real estate for Compton's Prince, @kendricklamar, to shine.

That's what made the album so special, he did it mostly by himself lyrically. You could argue that he did get a good deal of help production wise from the likes of @Pharrell, @Hit_Boy, @drdre, @SCOOPDEVILLE and @JustBlaze, but he didn't need to craft his narrative with flashy radio friendly hits and superstar cameo verses. It's admirable because he had his own formula that went counter to pop culture trends and he executed it flawlessly. The end result will eminently have a lasting impact on Hip Hop and influence the way a whole lot of upcoming artists go about trying to be successful in Hip Hop.

You may have caught it earlier this week, but @Young_Guru debuted the remix below a few days back in Austin with @JustBlaze by his side. That was before he performed to a capacity crowd at SXSW, further cementing his influence on music culture as a whole. In summary, I'll put it like this...when you add an @s_c_ verse and bridge old and new Hip Hop gap with two well respected artists that have never collaborated before, it's no surprise the the track has over 323,000 plays on Soundcloud in the first five hours...#TDE

"Don’t Stop, No One’s Ever Enough"

Going on a year now I've continually heard @HAIMtheband's name bandied about throughout the blogosphere. I'm not going to pretend I know anything about their music yet, but what I do know is that when they start collaborating with some of my favorite artists, I'm going to start paying closer attention. That came a little over a week ago when @ducidni announced that he has a track on his upcoming album with Haim and @Hit_Boy...(Antennae goes up...).

Which brings us to the track at hand, feel free to grab a bite of the original version of Falling before diving into the dope remix...
Simple put, these three sisters and a drummer have a refreshingly unique style. It's a completely coin flip whether the remix below that @DukeDumont put together is as good as the original. What I do know is he did a great job of extracting the catchiest part and taking it up a notch in danceworthiness, but both versions are great in their own right. Key takeway, Haim is officially on my radar and they should be on yours too...#Haim

Videos of the Week March 15th

Not gonna lie, there was an entertainingly diverse mix of videos that came across the radar this week. It's hard to top @jtimberlake performing Mirrors live on @nbcsnl, but the production value of @Pitbull's pop hit Feel This Moment with @TheRealXtina. I'll give the most creative award to @reeltalk6788 for attempting an ASL translation of Started From the Bottom. If you asked me which was the funniest video of the week, that award goes to @JeffGordonWeb for the hilarious, white-knuckle test drive he took a poor used car salesman on. "Only Scott & Chuck Can Make it Rain"

I've always been a huge sucker for in-studio videos showing artists putting in work on tracks. Amplify that times ten when @chuckisdope is involved because there isn't a producer in the game whose beats knock more than his. Check out his studio session with @trvisXX...
Frankly, I wish they would have made a new track based on the beat they layered in on Travis's verse around the 1:18 mark. After reading up on your boy Travis and his new G.O.O.D. opportunities, I've got a feeling this won't be the last time you'll see his name on this blog. araabMUZIK Goes Motion Picture On It

When it comes to experimenting with sounds and samples, you won't find more of a chef than @araabMUZIK. If you told him his music sounded like anybody else's, my guess is he'd kick you in the face for spitting such blasphemy. Personally, I appreciate that he's starting to venture into the synth heavy EDM material with a lot of the beats he's been putting out recently. I'm still digging his I Remember remix @deadmau5 and @kaskade's collabo together from his Electronic Dream mixtape.

If you're a movie buff, you'll appreciate the intro to the track below, which actually samples the opening Dolby Digital sound effect. Real talk, araab deserves some love for all the music he's been puttin' out lately. In case you missed it, he just released his For Professional Use Only mixtape last month and it's full of audio goodies like Runaway Bass...#MotionPicture

"We Quick to Turn the Cabbage Into Coleslaw Boi"

First it was @kendricklamar on the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier theme song War is My Love, now @bigboi and @bobatl are following suit with the new theme to Army of Two: Devil's Cartel. What's cool is the two ATLiens got to take it a step further and become embedded into the game, taking on drug cartels in a mixed reality video (below)...
It's about time the world of video games started embracing Hip Hop! So what if the lyrics are a little corny and forced, it's still a pretty dope track all things considered. Not sure if the track will land on an album, but that's not important in the iTunes world. "I Think of All the Madness in My Head"

Getting a chance to singe the hook on a @tip track featuring @kendricklamar and @bobatl has to be one of the best opportunities to get your name out there. I mention that because @KrisStephens made a really good decision when she decided to drop out of school to pursue a music career because now she's getting a chance to be in big tracks with Hip Hop stars. Taking it a step further, she managed to absolutely steal the show with her angelic vocals on the hook of the track below. Below is a quick BTS cut of the soon to be released video for Memories Back Then off T.I.'s upcoming Hustle Gang compilation...
I'm not sure about y'all, but I for one will be on the look out for anything featuring Kris Stephens in the upcoming year. Here's to hoping she gets together a debut album in 2013 thanks in large part to her upcoming debut single #SpreadMyWings

Major Lazer x Popcaan X Harlem Shake Mash Up

Been a while since I've posted an interesting mashup, but it doesn't get much more interesting than @majorlazer taking a stab at their Mad Decent homie @baauer's hit Harlem Shake. The track enlists the vocals Jamaica's own @PopcaanMusic and takes samples from the Harlem Shake beat. It's a little bit of madness, but that's to be expected when you start shaking lazers.

Best part about it, you can cop the track for free on Major Lazer's new, free Lazers Strike Back EP. Oh and thanks to the Timberwolves, it's safe to say Harlem Shake has officially jumped the shark...#BoutTime

"I Know if I Go, I'll Die Happy Tonight"

I needed a pick me up tonight, so I took a trip to Beatport in search of a track that would give me the energy to be fun tonight. Like any human being under the age of 30, I consulted the reviews and what I came back with was @CedricGervais's remix of @LanaDelRey's Summertime Sadness. If you're curious, check out the original below, which is much less energetic, but every bit as emotionally charged and sultry...like everything else LDR does...
Sometimes for a story to hit home, it needs some tempo to keep my attention. That's exactly what Cedric was able to infuse, which is probably why this is sitting at #2 on Beatport's Top 100 right now. If you're into House flavored EDM, you'll really appreciate how Lana's vocals cut the madness and provide a great tempo contrast to the surrounding electronics. As a quick sidebar, I had a positive user experience at Cedric Gervais's stylish website. Dude clearly appreciates aethetic, which isn't surprising after listening to the mix below...#SummertimeSadness

Videos of the Week Friday March 8th

More entertainment than music on this week's round of videos. The LiteralMSPaint of Thrift Shop might be the early front runner for video of the year honors. You could watch that thing 10 times and still miss some really creative visual language, which is why it's deserving of such high praise. After watching @adidas's new @LeoMessi1987 commercial, I'm now eagerly awaiting @HudMo's new single, Monte Fisto. Here's to hoping Hangover 3 is more like the original Hangover, rather than the huge let down of Hangover 2. "All Sweaters Inside of Luggage, You Gotta Love It"

Like a clique who knows they're on top of the game, @drake's fam took to the OVO blog and let loose a freebie that will not be on Drizzy's upcoming album Nothing Was the Same. On the track Drake spits mercilessly over a @boi1da and @VINYLZ beat in a straight pissed off, aggressive manor that continues his tone on Started From the Bottom. I'll admit, I like this one a little more than his previous effort, but the constant verbal barbs and tough talk isn't a direction I had hoped he go toward on his new album. All artists' music evolve and when you're constantly stepped to like he is, I can imagine why he'd want to come at everyone and stick his chest out lyrically.

If you're expecting a 5 AM in Dallas, it's going to fall short of those expectations. I enjoyed the @DICERAW shout out off top, it was a fitting comparison because Drake's tone did have the vigor of a track like Thin Line. Not as entertained was @TeflonTom, who now needs to change his number after the recent shout out. Best part about it, it looks like @JManziel2 has joined the @welcomeOVO revolution recently, sporting a new purple owl on his Twitter profile (below). Nicky is Still the Same Man

The track below might require some patience with the mainstream audience, but believe me, it hits it's stride after the 2 minute mark. On first listen, it reminded me of @MiikeSnow's Animal the way the vocals are delivered. The track features two other up and coming Dutch DJ's (@DJJohnChristian and @NilsonMusic) and is currently sitting in the 15 on Beatport. It's about as progressive hous-y as I can tolerate, but that comes with knowing your EDM boundaries, which is always a good thing to be in touch with...#HouseMusic

"I Should Be Your Choice Tonight"

The head scratching collabos continue this week with @Tyga and @2chainz on @diplo's remix of @psy_oppa's megahit Gangnam Style. It might be the first time ever I can say that a Diplo beat was confusing. At times it's slow and choppy to give the verses room to breathe, but then Diplo hits another gear when he throws his signature upbeat, trap style around the 1:16 mark.

The track below is on the new Gangnam Style [Remix Style] EP, which also features a pretty bangin', not-Gangnam-sounding-at-all remix from @djafrojack. Here's to hoping the next off the wall collabo sound more like Constant Conversations, rather than the Gangnam retread below...#Craziness

Big Boi + Epic Meal Time

The real question is, who doesn't appreciate a good calorie filled episode of Epic Meal Time? It's tough picking a favorite, but it's probably between Tequila Taco Night and TurBaconEpic Thanksgiving if I was forced to pick a winner. Either way, the beginning of @BigBoi's new video for Apple of My Eye with up and comer @jaketroth features a quick cameo from @HarleyPlays of Epic Meal Time and what ensues is rather entertaining...
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Big Boi deserves dap for continuing to push the boundaries of Hip Hop. The big band feel on the track below is upbeat and downright infectious. "You're the One That I've Been Searching For, Joy"

Back in October @RyanMcDMusic made a splash with his G.O.O.D. Music debut single Paradise. I swung and missed posting it, so if you're like me and missed it, check it out below...

It shouldn't surprise many people that the best Hip Hop record labels like @G_O_O_D_Music and Young Money are expanding beyond just Hip Hop into Pop and EDM by recruiting artists like @itsKevinRudolf and @HudMo. If I were asked to compare Ryan McDermott to say...Kevin Rudolf, I'd say they both compete in the same Pop realm with Ryan taking more of the R&B/Jazz style, while Kevin takes a more alt rock approach. Ryan's new one below has a breezy, calypso R&B vibe to it with @Hit_Boy pitching in a verse and production on the track. It's harmonious, uplifting and shows off Ryan's vocal potential quite well. Hopefully artists like Ryan can help fill this gaping void of talent in R&B right now...#Joy

Videos of the Week March 1st

First off, the whole Harlem Shake revolution has officially jumped the shark. Near the end here, we've seen some fun ones like the Miami Heat one below, but nobody can top the YouTube Easter Egg Harlem Shake. Copycat dance crazy aside, the video below by @KeeganMKey and @JordanPeele of @KeyAndPeele wins for this week's most entertaining video. When it comes to fresstyling outlandish ideas, it doesn't get any better chemistry wise than the Comedy Central duo. For all the Hip Hop heads who were salivating over the many behind the scenes shots, the video finally arrives this week. The track is literally at the basement floor of what I'm able to tolerate when it comes to dumbed down, flashy, ignorant trap muzik, but between this and Ice Cream Paint Job I simply can't turn it off when it comes on...#TrapMuzik
