"I Walk on Water, But I Ain't No Jesus"

After weeks of rumors circulating about a new Eminem album, we've finally got our first warning shot. Matter of fact, warning shot probably doesn't convey the epic-ness of the track below, it's more like a surprise scud missile. Featuring soulful vocals from Queen Bey herself, Walk on Water amounts to a candlelight therapy session for Eminem. It's as dramatic and introspective as I've ever heard from Em. The quiet intensity is palpable, but I appreciate his restraint in use of vulgarity. Sure there are a few f bombs, but they're intricately placed, rather than napalmed all over the track like he's been known to do.

If this track has taught me anything, it's that Eminem's style is still evolving and he's even more complex than we thought. I'll have to listen to his new single many more times to fully wrap my head around the message, but I appreciate it's depth. If this doesn't get you amped for his upcoming Revival album, then nothing will...#Revival

Beyonce & Jay Z Never Get Tired of All of This Winning

In case you haven't gotten your fill of DJ Khaled this weekend for the NBA All-Star game, here comes his new collabo with the Bonnie & Clyde of Hip Hop. To catch you up real quick on what he's been up to over the past 24 hours, here he was draining a 3 to raise money for Sager Strong...

And then here he is promoting his Snapchat brand while helping Deandre Jordan as a prop in the dunk contest...

Needless to say, Khaled it still hot and there's no denying the impact of his inspirational message every time he gets in front of a camera. What I'm most impressed with on Shining is his ability to bring out the best in both Beyonce and Jay Z. No lie, Beyonce may have stole the show on the track by both singing and rapping her ass off. Sure, Jiggaman's verse will get the most attention, but both of them showed out. I love how the "winning", "don't slow me down" message is a direct reflection of Khaled's persona. It fits together well and makes for a really smooth track. Give it spin on iTunes or Spotify...#Shining

Videos of the Week September 9th

Variety is the name of the game in this week's top five. There was some music, a cross-genre cover, a lyric video, and a premiere of a much awaited show. Normally novelty and comedy lead the way, but this past week was the Drake and Beyonce show. Let me ask you this, how many time are you going to get to see Tyra Banks shove cheesecake in Drake's face and then douse him with red wine? And how many times are you going to see Beyonce's sexy self in a frilly dress taking a baseball bat to a chevy? Yep, that's why they led the way.

Then, there was that time Usher did a live cover of The Chainsmokers Don't Let Me Down. Didn't see that coming, but it speaks to how multi-talented Mr. Raymond is and how big The Chainsmokers are now. In an effort to keep up with the new trend of creative, lower budget videos, Kygo and Julia Michaels put together a fun video for Carry Me. Picture an in-studio performance with a live orchestra and lots of fun, whimsical lyrics painted on the screen narrating the entire thing. And then there's the premiere of Donald Glover's new show Atlanta. I've posted a few trailers for the show and now y'all get the full 26 minutes in all it's glory...#Atlanta

Alan Walker Reimagines Your Favorite Weekend Anthem

At this point, it'd be an understatement to say that Alan Walker is a breakout candidate. His releases of Faded and Sing Me To Sleep have jolted him onto the scene and generated a ton of buzz. That buzz was amplified a bit more this week when he released a remix of Coldplay and Beyonce's Hymnn For the Weekend. Check the video below for a refresher if you're not exactly sure which Coldplay hit I'm talking about...

Pretty jubilant track right? Well, Alan layered in some of his wobbly, celebratory synths to turn it into a head nod worthy remix. Add to that Beyonce's sparkling vocals that seem like they were made for the remix. Get used to hearing the name Alan Walker because it doesn't seem like this streak of great music is stopping any time soon...#HymnForTheWeekend

Videos of the Week July 1st

As we go full steam ahead into Summer, it seems like music videos are beginning to take over the top five. Maybe it's an overall lack of interesting late night skits, or it could be an influx in breath taking performances and music videos. Speaking of performances, this week was absolutely dominated by Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar. You won't see many performances quite like their rendition of Freedom at the BET Awards. How they managed to include that much water on the set without electrocution is beyond amazing. So much splashing and wet hair swinging. Then you throw in some K Dot spitting on the mic. GAME OVER!

In the "all the other videos" category, there was plenty more music. Let by a throwback filtered Majid Jordan video for Make It Work and a very chill video from Gallant for Miyazaki. Who needs multiple camera angles when you've got a nicely set table and a bottle of wine, right? Then there was the silhouette inside the ice cube appearance by members of X Ambassadors, A$AP Ferg and Jamie N Commons in Low Life. Lots of pain and desperation in that one, but a great track. And last, but not least we've got the latest GWDJ appearance by The Chainsmokers. This time they performed their latest #1 single, Don't Let Me Down with Daya on GMA. Their live performance has come a long way to the point where they can captivate an audience no matter what venue they're performing at...#DontLetMeDown

Videos of the Week May 6th

Very entertaining week for videos with everyone's favorite staged, viral response to Beyonce's Lemonade video. Funny or Die is usually on point, but they brought their A game and flipped an hour long response quickly. When it came to music, Flo Rida/Jason Derulo and The Chainsmokers chipped in new visuals for their recent singles. I hate to call Hello Friday a typical Hip Hop video, but let's call a spade a spade. As far as Don't Let Me Down is concerned, the plot is a bit perplexing. You've got a group of women dancing and pouring their heart out vocally and Alex and Drew are...bouncing in '64 like they're riding down Crenshaw? Other than the play on words on not letting them down from the bouncing, not sure what they were going with theme wise.

In non-music news, Drake did an hour long piece with Zane Lowe following the release of Views. Jury is still out on the album for me, but overall I'm feeling the more low key, back to more of an R&B/Hip Hop mix vibe. And last but not least, we've got a brand new game on Fallon. It's called Frozen Blackjack and Fallon took on Captain America in the game. Let's just say, it was entertaining...#FrozenBlackjack

Videos of the Week February 12th

Was it me or did all the news this week in music center around Beyonce and Kanye? While it was tempting to post snippets of Kanye's Madison Square Garden album launch fashion show, it was much better consumed live. Instead, let's pivot to Beyonce who is hilariously being threatened to be banned from Canada. Anyone who saw the Super Bowl performance was probably inspired by the aggressive and controlled demeanor of Queen B. The same description could be given to her real video for Formation where she steams ahead, proudly proclaiming Black Pride.

It's hard to follow that type of video, but if you haven't heard of Parson James, here's another example why he's going to be a household name soon enough. The dude is such a talented vocalist, there's no denying it. Word it has it Zoolander 2 comes out this weekend and it's receiving sub-part reviews. Along the same silly comedy lines, Peyton Manning and Magic Johnson played egg roulette on Fallon. Anytime you can see Hall of Fame athletes making a fool of themselves, it's going to be a good time. Speaking of making a fool of yourself, Kevin Hart is legitimately scared of reptiles. Not just little lizards, but also big snakes. In his words, "Snakes are racist!" Yea lots of laughs this week for sure...#Ophidiophobia

Videos of the Week February 5th

Sticking with a NFL theme this week seeing that the Super Bowl is this weekend. Although it was tempting, I resisted posting a few of the entertaining commercials before they air on Sunday. It truly wouldn't be the Super Bowl without crazy, ridiculous ads, so we'll leave those cats inside the box.

First, the novelty. The 2016 Bad Lip Reading video Part 1 might be one of the more entertaining videos I post all year. They never disappoint, year after year. Similarly, Fallon did an excellent job of roasting some of the players who will be taking part in the big game this weekend. On the music front, The Chainsmokers continued their EDM conquest on Fallon by performing their now #1 iTunes dance single Roses. Coldplay also released a new video with Beyonce's help, but I was a little confused about the lyrical content being about drunk and high...on life? Definitely a celebratory video and much more feel good than I imagined. To end the week, how about some dap for Ohene Savant. There are plenty of people who can either play a live instrument, or produce music or even rap. But can any of them do all of them with a degree of skill? Needless to say, he's much more the exception to the rule, so give him a look and don't be afraid to be amazed like I was...#GeniusLevel

"Give You All My Lovin' Baby Can I?"

Now that Drake has fulfilled his album quota with Cash Money through his recent release of his If You're Reading This It's Too Late mixtape, it's time to get back to the real music. Make no mistake about it, his latest mixtape shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as his classic So Far Gone mixtape. The mixtape comparison serves as a reflection on the evolution of my fandom of Drake. It started off so well and continued for a few albums, but our paths have seemed to diverge the past year or so.

Unfortunately, his new track with Beyonce and Sal Houdini isn't the song that is going to make our paths converge again. I will say that Sal Houdini is a name I'm going to be keeping an eye out for going forward. He has a great voice and showed off some versatility on his verse. If you're looking for a huge vocal contribution from Beyonce, you're going to be disappointed too. I will say too I'm not really a fan of Drake's overtly-thuggish, half-yelling delivery. It's not what got him to where he is today and in my eyes it cheapens his overall style. All in all, it'll be a track that gets a lot of attention, but it's flashy exterior will leave you wanting more...#CanI

Mustard on the Beat Flexes All Over Beyonce's 7/11

Very rarely do Hip Hop producers cease opportunities to flex their abilities on remixes. It's as if DJs that specialize in EDM are the only ones allowed to take original versions of tracks and run with them. But then again, DJ Mustard was a man amongst boys among Hip Hop producers in 2014. Before getting to what he did to Beyonce's 7/11, don't pass up the opportunity to refresh yourself on the entertaining visuals from the video...

Where the original is slow and bouncy, the remix takes on a few different personalities that are all just a bit more turnt up than the original. Dap is deserved for a head nod worthy chord progression injected by "Mustard on the Beat Hoe." Again, what I heard on the remix wasn't in the realm of the expected, which is why I'm waxing poetic over the novelty of the remix. For those looking for a way to transform 7/11 into a dance anthem, worry not, Mustard has you covered...#MustardOnTheBeat

Jack U Come Through With a Killer 7/11 Remix

For those of you who are looking for an ace in the hole track to inject energy into your New Years party, look no further. Skrillex and Diplo decided to jump on the Beyonce 7/11 remix train and put all of the other sub-par mixes to shame. On the remix you can taste both flavors of Jack U with Diplo's bouncy trap vibe and Skrillex's mechanical sounding samples mixing together like your favorite New Years drink.

I'm particularly interested in the remix because I'll be wilding out to it in a few days in Tahoe at Snow Globe when Skrillex (presumably) plays the song live. For now I'll just add this to the list of countless reasons that I'm intrigued as hell at the concept of Jack U and looking forward to a full length release from the two EDM super talents...#JackU

Videos of the Week December 12th

If I was pressured to pick two adjectives to describe this week's top 5 6 videos, I'd say interesting and unique. Lead by the powerful performance of Bed of Lies Nicki Minaj & Skylar Grey, the week started off on a high point. If there's any possibility of me seeing Skylar Grey in concert, you better believe I will be taking full advantage of that opportunity. On the documentary front, Beyonce released an 11 minute short film to prove to all of us that she's a human just like everyone else. Time will tell whether her attempt at empathy will continue to positively shape her brand.

The two real music videos came from Sam Smith's new single Like I Can and Imagine Dragon's I Bet My Life. Sam is getting close to an entire album of singles now, and the Imagine Dragons are seriously ramping up for their sophomore effort. And in case you need some feel good vibes for the holiday season, feel free to check out the supermarket "This Little Light of Mine" flash mob or the Christmas light choreography to Frozen's Let it Go...#ThisLittleLightofMine

Videos of the Week November 28th

Anytime either Beyonce releases a video with her fine self dancing around in her underwear or Skrillex and Diplo release a new video, you know it's going to be a good week. Sure, both happening in one week makes it a great week, but that's also because of a few Jimmy Fallon contributions. My favorite of the week was his holiday style parodies of well known pop tracks from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Sam Smith and DJ Snake. I was impressed by Rashida Jones's ability to rock a mic. In other Fallon news, it was interesting to hear Lorde talk about putting together the Mocking Jay Soundtrack. Last and probably least was a rare Mystikal sighting. Anybody who wondered whether or not he had fallen on the earth can now breathe a sight of relief. He's doing just fine still yelling non-sensically over tracks...#TurduckenForWhat

Videos of the Week August 29th

An overall great week for music videos with Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande leading the way with their eye candy filled Bang Bang. If you're in the mood for dancing, you're going to need to check out both The Chainsmokers video for Kanye and Usher's newly minted visuals for She Came to Give it To You. Without a doubt, the most memorable video of the week was Beyonce's VMA Vanguard Medley that had a tearful ending with Jay Z and Blue Ivy. And as if you hadn't seen enough ice bucket challenges, how about a special one from Jimmy Fallon. Who would have known the National Ice Council would be so outraged...#IceBucketChallenge

Vidoes of the Week May 23rd

Really interesting and diverse group of videos this week with the SNL season finale leading the way. Simply put, Andy Samberg is hilarious and anytime he hosts SNL, you better have your DVR set. His parody of EDM DJs teasing the drop is one of the better skits he's ever done, which is saying a lot. Despite the whole Solange elevator drama, Jay Z and Beyonce raised the bar for tour promos with On the Run. Between the two fan bases, they shouldn't have too much trouble selling out arenas.

It was really cool to see the MJ hologram perform his new track Slave to the Rhythm. It's never the same as the real experience, but modern technology does a good job of pretending. DJ Snake and Dillon Francis did a solid job of showing how to make it rain while showing folks how to dance horizontally. Last but not lease, the Bells Whiskey tv ad was by far the best video of the week. You want to talk about telling a compelling story to get people to empathize with your product. Tip of the cap to Bells for showing everyone how to sell the "why" of a product in a creative way...#BellsWhiskey

Videos of the Week March 21st

There's little doubt which video gets the top spot this week. Whoever you are Jesse Hill, you deserve some love for finding a way to creatively express Beyonce's Drunk in Love through iOS Emojis. Aside from that, Zedd and Chromeo came through with some new visuals that were both entertaining in their own ways. I did appreciate the fun wedding story in Chromeo's new one for Jealous (I Ain't With It). You better believe I'm gonna be pressing F5 on the internet until the studio version of Drake's new one Call on Me drops. As a solid bookend to the week, Jimmy Fallon came through with an entertaining parody of the First Kiss video...#FirstLick

Love Drunk with a Diplo Twist

Maybe it's because this week was Valentines Week, but has anybody else noticed the fixation on remixing R&B songs about love? Yesterday it was Mike Posner mixing a classic, now Diplo took a swing at Beyonce's Drunk in Love. To put it simply, it's as traptastic as you'd expect with plenty of bass and repetition of the original lyrics.

Unlike Kanye's remix of Drunk in Love, Jay Z's verse didn't make the cut for this mix. I'll leave it like this, where 'Ye added some creatively explicit bars, Diplo provided value in the beat, proving there are many different ways to get Drunk in Love...#DrunkInLove

Oh Ron Burgundy, how I've missed you. With the movie premiere on the horizon, it's full court press time for the cast of Anchorman 2. I'll admit, my own expectations prevented me from falling off the couch while viewing the video below. Still, it's an entertaining watch anytime Will Ferrell starts on a rant about why mustaches are awesome, it's a must watch.

Oh this just in, Beyonce just dropped an album outta the blue this week. Along with that came two show stopping videos with her husband and Drake. Wonder if she meant to do that with the holiday season coming up? In other news, buckle your seat belt for an eerie lyric video from Timbaland. I wouldn't have thought of going that direction with the video, but they definitely got the shock and awe factor. To put a bookend on the week, it doesn't get much more patriotic than Avicii's Hey Brother video...#Murica

"I am Houston, Rep it Hard"

I'll be the first to admit, I didn't really know Beyonce was from Houston, Texas. Matter of fact, other than Kirko Bangz, there really hasn't been an R&B artist that has repped H-town and participated in the screwed and chopped movement. That all changed today when Houston as a collective came together to support Beyonce's new one off her upcoming Mrs. Carter album. Check the fan made video below for the original version of the track that will be on the album...

I Been On is proof that no matter who you are, you can embody the tough "Houston" sound with a little screwed/chopped treatment. I never thought I'd say the words, "man that new Bey track is tough!", but today that happened thanks to help from Houston All-Stars Bun B, Z-Ro, Willie D of Geto Boys, Slim Thugga, and Lil Keke. Oh and in case you missed it, Beyonce is about to begin touring the globe, so there's a good chance she'll be coming somewhere near you...#IBeenOn

Videos of the Week Feb 24th

Great mix of different content this week with a classic @nbcsnl skit, some top notch concert videos featuring @kanyewest and @drake, ending with a @jlin7 interview where he shouts out his favorite music types. It's probably a toss up for me for most noteworthy video on this post, but it'd have to be between seeing @chuckisdope and @asherroth in studio working on music together and seeing Drake in concert. It's been too long since I've seen him live and I still haven't gotten out post Thank Me Later, so there's a lot I have to still see. I'm still trying to see @THECOOLKIDS in concert five years later, but hope to catch them opening for your boy @macmiller this spring.

As a little spoiler alert, it's looking like my concert tour this spring is going to be heavy on the electronic/dubstep. Maybe a little @nerouk, possibly some @bassnectar and most likely some @skrillex...#StayTuned
