Videos of the Week May 27th

Storytelling and comedy are two words I'd use to describe this week's top five. Led by Lil Dicky's instigation session with Gronk, Antonio Brown and Von Miller, this week had it's laughs. The sad thing about that video is that I kept waiting for it to break into a music video and it never happened. Not complaining, just caught me off guard and kept me watching.

Kygo dominated the storytelling aspect of this week's top five by creating an up and down love story across two tracks. Although I'm in Love and Raging have two very different vibes, I was impressed with how well they helped augment the plot. If catchy covers and beautiful women are what you're in the mood for, you'll enjoy Pitbull and Enrique's Messin' Around video. Pitbull has flipped so many classic tracks it's getting to the point of ridiculousness, but we kept listening. And to cap off the week Fallon and Adam Sandler did an exemplary job of celebrating Fleet Week in NY with their cover of Garth's I've Got Friends in Low Places. Judging by the audience reaction, their entertaining cover might just become an armed forces anthem...#FriendsOnAllBases

"I'm Free To Do What I Want and Have a Good Time"

Very few people can resurrect previous hits with a new spin like Pitbull. Some would knock him for his unoriginality, but I've always found myself on the admiration side of the fence when it comes to Mr. 305. This time he put his own spin on the Soup Dragons' I'm Free. Based on the psychedelic, low budget style of the video, you can probably guess it was from 1990...
Those of you who grew up in the MTV era should be feeling a bit nostalgic right now. But even if you're not, you've got to be at least mildly amused with what Pitbull was able to do to the original. He managed to put his own upbeat, party anthem flair on Freedom. There's not much new and novel about it, but if you like previous releases of his, you'll enjoy this one. With his 10th studio album, Climate Change, on the horizon, there are very few obstacles in his way toward yet another platinum album...#Freedom

Videos of the Week December 26th

Simply put, there were way too many 2014 year in review and holiday videos this week that is was impossible to whittle down videos of the week to a top 5. So as a belated Christmas gift, I'm delivering a top 10 this week as a special year end gift. In the post you'll see the past year in search, viral videos, extreme videos and even an Orange is the New Black version of the 12 days of Christmas.

Beyond the year end videos, there's a Coachella recap, a new full length trailer for the upcoming entourage movie and a Dr. Evil cameo on SNL. On a serious note, I appreciated how well the SNL writers pulled off the critique of The Interview vs North Korea situation. The whole controversy brought about a slew of firsts in both hacking and pop culture bleeding into politics, but Dr. Evil made a lot of great points about just how absurd the whole thing was on a lot of fronts. In case you needed an actual music video fix, the Dade County artists (Pitbull & Flo Rida) had your back with new videos for Time of Our Lives and GDFR. Hope everyone had a great holiday season and is looking forward to New Years as much as I am...#2014YearinReview

"Give Me the Time of My Life"

Somehow, some way, Pitbull continues to find a way to make great new music year after year. You would think he would have had to reinvent himself at least a few times over the past decade to continue releasing new albums yearly. With seven albums in the books and one more in the oven, there's no sign in sight of this unstoppable train slowing down.

His newest single featuring Ne-Yo is as fun and repeatable as you'd expect from Dade county's finest. Between the hook from Ne-Yo and the smooth dance beat, it's the perfect end of the week, T.G.I.F. track. The best part about it all, Globalization is hitting the internet in less than a week. My guess is he'll find a way to churn out at least five singles out of the eleven songs on the album...#Globalization

Turn Down For What Gets a 2nd Hip Hop Makeover

Now that Lil Jon has channeled his crunk energy toward EDM and more specifically Trap music, he's trying his best to bring Hip Hop with him. First, it was the Turn Down For What remix with Juicy J, 2 Chainz and French Montana that got a lot of attention around Hip Hop circles. Now, Lil Jon has upped the ante by getting Luda and Pitbull to go in on everyone's favorite party track.

The only real question is, how much play can you really give one hit track? I really appreciate this whole connection between EDM and Hip Hop with Trap, but can't we start fresh with a new track? I'm being critical, but I will say this remix is leaps and bounds better than the first Hip Hop remix. Luda did work and showed out, carrying the 2nd mix. You better believe Miami clubs are going to eat this alive...#TDFW

All Felli Fel Wanna Do is Have Some Fun

What an odd collection of noteworthy Hip Hop artists on one track. Just looking at the artists on the track, it's hard to predict what to expect. Maybe my mental model is off because I still see Juicy J and think 100 proof Southern Hip Hop, but I didn't see an upbeat dance hit on first glance. With DJ Felli Fel at the helm, that's exactly what transpired on Have Some Fun. Cee-Lo Green drives the club friendly single with the help of Pitbull who found himself at home on the borderline modern disco hit. Now word yet on when Felli Fel's new album is dropping, but I will say that I appreciate his style over DJ Khaled's. Both DJs have the ability to bring epic collaboartions together, the only difference is the lack of yelling and personal promotion. Tip of the cap Felli Fel, let your work speak for itself...#HaveSomeFun

2014 World Cup Theme Song Ole

With the World Cup quickly approaching in 63 days, it's only fitting that we start pumping out the theme song by Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez. The acoustic guitar led beat eventually turns into a full-fledged arena inducing hum that will fit perfectly with the rowdy vibe of the World Cup. Call me crazy, but I don't think there could have been two better people to craft a theme song for this year's World Cup. If you need a bit of excitement, look no further, press play below...

Now if the US could only use this track to help out their +1000 betting odds of winning the World Cup, all would be well stateside. To put things in perspective, Mexico and Greece are at +900 and Ghana is at +1200. Yessss! We have a better shot than Ghana to win...barely. Oh well, maybe we can pull off a miracle against Germany or Portugal and play spoiler, right?...#WorldCup2014

Videos of the Week April 4th

It was tempting to post just about every live set from Ultra Music Festival for the top five videos this week. Instead, I settled for a fan favorite in Tiesto with the assumption that you all would click the video to view on YouTube if you wanted to see others like Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Zedd, Nicky Romero, etc.

It was also tempting to not post both Sam Smith videos from his SNL performance last weekend. It was a coin toss whether I liked Stay With Me or Lay Me Down better, but I ended up going with the most recent single. Along the same lines, it will be interesting to see Pharrell perform this weekend on SNL. That hat has truly taken on a personality of it's own and become a pop culture icon.

It's been a while since I posted some new Pitbull, so check out his new one featuring up and comers GRL. Last but certainly not least, check out the trailer for Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman's new movie Lucy. Very Sci-Fi and X-men-ish with the whole common person injected with mysterious concoction that gives superpowers and makes into superhero. One thing is for sure, she is not afraid to get dirty and knock a whole lotta people out...#LucyMovie

Videos of the Week Decemeber 6th

I've got a buy one get one free deal going on this week's collection of video. Due to the influx of videos I wasn't able to narrow down on five, so y'all get six. In particular, I'd pay attention to the PBS animated 2Pac video where they sketched up some visuals to match the original interview. The visuals do a really good job of portraying a lot of the messages 2pac explained in the interview. The video that's getting the most acclaim this week is by far Lana Del Rey's 27 min Tropico video. I'll say that there have been mixed reactions, but the common thread it that people react strongly to it.

I love how Lorde's legacy is steadily growing, and you can't get much more crowd pleasing than Pitbull and Ke$ha's Timber. Not sure about you guys, but I can't wait for Anchorman 2. Oh and if you haven't been teased by Detox for over a decade like me, then you should get excited for new Kendrick Lamar tracks produced by Dr. Dre...#Detox

"Give Me That High, Like You Did Last Night"

Man, it's hard to argue against Pitbull's ability to churn out hit after hit after hit after hit. I'd be willing to bet that there are more than a few people who are getting tired of his hit making formula, but nobody can deny how successful he is at doing what he does. This time he teamed up with Kelly Rowland on his latest top 40 radio hit That High. Like I alluded to before, it's almost exactly what you'd expect from Pitbull, which isn't a bad thing in my eyes. Quick side note, is it me or does the Kelly's hook sound strikingly like the hook from Ke$ha's Blow?

The single will be showing up in about a week on his upcoming re-release of his seventh studio album Global Warming:Meltdown. The album will feature five new songs (one being Timber) in addition to all the tracks from the original release of Global Warming. It's an interesting trend that artists are re-releasing "deluxe" versions of albums that have a few extra new songs on them to get everything they can out of their release. Can't hate if it works, but personally I don't get it. Oh well, money talks so if you're a fan go out on Black Friday and cop it...#GlobalWarmingMeltdown

"It's Goin' Down, I'm Yellin' Timber"

I have no idea why more people don't incorporate harmonica into their music. Maybe it's because there's been a huge resurgence of country/folk collaborations in pop music of late, but Hip Hop and EDM seem to be pulling in different elements as a way to stay fresh. Despite the awesome harmonica infusion into the beat cooked up by Dr. Luke, I don't think Timber will need much selling to the top 40 audience. If anything the huge fan bases of Pitbull and Ke$ha might merge on this one and take over the world...or at least the fans around the world that don't live in Australia since the Pitbull and Ke$ha tour was just cancelled.

If you're keeping score at home, Timber will serve as the lead single for Pitbull's yearly upcoming album titled Meltdown. If he doesn't manage to get it out by the end of 2013, it will mark the first time since 2009 that he didn't release a studio album. Pretty awesome record of consistent excellence he's developing...#Meltdown

"You Got a Dream, It's Simple, Live It, Wake Up"

You could imagine how I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when the remix below found it's way into my inbox today. Mr. Worldwide on Avicii's Newgrass hit? Hmm...I wonder what this is going to sound like.

Well...it's about what you'd expect. It's more or less the same as the original, but with a Pitbull lead in and brief verse during the electronic cresendo of the track. Make no mistake about it, there are very few artists who can calmly hype a track during the intro like Pitbull. He's led off so many great, crowd inspiring tracks that you almost expect to be awed by the outcome. That being said, his energy was almost too hype for the beat on his verse. While there were more than a few quoteables to go around on well constructed verse, the verse as whole felt a bit cut and pasted. Still, it was cool to hear Pitbull take a swing at one of the best songs of 2013...#dale

"Damn That White Girl Got Some Ass"

Seeing that both Pitbull and Flo Rida make the same tempo music and steady rep Miami to the fullest, it make you wonder why they don't collaborate more often. That's my general reaction to the song below, which is more or less and ode to all the white girls in the world who have enough booty to fill out a g-string. I dunno about you, but I really appreciated the cover art above that perfectly captured the essence of the track in the form of a Boy Scout badge. Even better, Flo leaked a preview of the video that is supposed to hit the internet on Tuesay...
Couldn't find much information regarding production on the track or the album name for Flo's 5th studio album. What I can tell you is that this will probably inspire quite a few Caucasian women to shake the modest thang that they're momma gave them in an attempt to fit in with black women who may have a little more in the trunk than they do. Here's to hoping that them white girls don't use this track as blind confidence to show out on the dance floor. With respect comes responsibility, make us all proud white girls...#BubbleYumBum

Videos of the Week May 17th

It's a shocker, this summer another Fast & Furious movie is being released! Surprising right? Sarcasm aside, this will be the finally one and I applaud them for getting back to what helped make the first movie awesome...an above average soundtrack. They have Def Jam to thank for putting together a top notch soundtrack to Fast and Furious 6. I'll always maintain, Pov City Anthem from the original Fast & Furious soundtrack is a classic beat and it motivated me to find a way to create ringtones on my own.

In other news, Skylar Grey continues to make slightly disturbing, emotionally charged videos. Interesting that Kendrick went to church for the BDKMV video. Anytime J Lo and Pitbull or Kanye and Ben Affleck get together, it's going to be fun. Definitely tuning into SNL for the season finale...#SNL

Videos of the Week March 15th

Not gonna lie, there was an entertainingly diverse mix of videos that came across the radar this week. It's hard to top @jtimberlake performing Mirrors live on @nbcsnl, but the production value of @Pitbull's pop hit Feel This Moment with @TheRealXtina. I'll give the most creative award to @reeltalk6788 for attempting an ASL translation of Started From the Bottom. If you asked me which was the funniest video of the week, that award goes to @JeffGordonWeb for the hilarious, white-knuckle test drive he took a poor used car salesman on. "I've Gotta a Feeling That I'm Not the Only One"

In an attempt to conclude Global Warming week with a bang, below is my best guess at @Pitbull's fourth single off the album. The track takes direct aim at his European audience with features from the British boy band @thewantedmusic and Dutch EDM kingpin, @djafrojack. The accordion during the hook mixed with aggressive electronics throughout the track makes for a dynamic pop club track.

Early reports have Global Warming opening up with respectable 35-40K first week sales. What most people don't realize is that there is much more to hear than the first three singles that have been released, so I would be willing to bet that number is only the starting point on his way to a second consecutive gold album...#GlobalWarming

"What Happens in Miami, Never Happened"

As promised, more new @Pitbull from his newly released album Global Warming. The main takeaway I've gleaned from listening to his new album is that it's very heavy on the electronica thanks in big part to @djafrojack. The biggest reason why this song will stick on the pop charts and clubs around the world has to be with Pitbull's newly coined Miami version of "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

There's always a market for going out to the club and getting drunk theme songs and Last Night absolutely nails it. Honestly, my first thought when listening to this track was Hangover 3 in Miami. In every way, from the beat to the lyrics, the song would work well as the theme song. The schizophrenic, high pitched electronic beat contrasts well soothing vocals provided by @djhavanabrown. It's got the trifecta: catchy lyrics, club beat and melodic hook. When all the dust settles, this may end up being the most popular single on Pitbull's new album, which is actually saying a lot...#GlobalWarming

Update: I guess I wasn't the only one who took notice of the track because @liltunchi and @ParisHilton just released a remix of the track below today called Last Night (I Wanna Bang You). Same beat, different vocals and lyrics...#OriginalIsWayBetter

"I Just Wanna Feel This Moment" - Pitbull & Christina Take on A-Ha

Just in case anyone thought @Pitbull was taking any sort of break this year, he's back with yet another soon to be platinum album Global Warming. The track below with @theRealXtina is the latest single off his new album scheduled to drop on November 19th. If you're thinking to yourself, man that sample sounds really familiar, what's that from? I've got you govered, A-Ha moment!

Like only Armando can do, he successfully transformed an 80s pop anthem into a Miami club anthem. Sure Christina will deserve a lion's share of the credit for this becoming a top 10 single, but The Messengers deserve just as much dap for weaving all elements (sample, vocals, verses mixed with Pitbull's upbeat Miami club sound) together. As a quick sidebar, I had no idea that one of my favcorite ghostwriters @NasriWorld was one half of The Messengers (along with @AdamMessinger_). It all makes sense now...

If I were to forecast this weekld be cold with a 100% chance of turkey and lots of Pitbull... #StayTuned

Videos of the Week October 26th

A little bit of everything in this week's round of videos, mixing entertainment, music and even a little bit of Dubstep beatbox. Yea you heard it right, @iknowdavecrowe is about as filthy as it gets when it comes to making electro, robotic symphonies. Maybe I haven't been paying attention closely, but I haven't seen many YouTube videos that have 118,000 likes. It's one of those you have to see it to believe it, so if you're at all curious, that's the video you need to watch this week...#NoveltyItem

"To These Rappers I Apologize, I Know it Ain't Fair"

It sounds crazy, but this year @Pitbull is set to release his seventh studio album in 2012. The album is going to be titled Global Warming and Get it Started will serve as the lead single. The song is every bit as upbeat as you'd expect, but it's a little less south Florida club and a little more pop/EDM. The sound of the track is a direct result of an epic production combination of @RedOne_Official (pop/dance) and @djafrojack (EDM).

Better put the high milage tires on this one because it's going to get plenty of time on the open road of top 40 radio. I'm not sure whether it helped or hurt the track to have @shakira on the hook, but I will say it was different from what Pitbull usually puts together. Put it this way, she wouldn't have been my first choice (despite her unique voice and high powered vocals), but I like that Mr. Worldwide did something different and deviated from the usual course. Mixing it up is never a bad thing when you're releasing an album a year like Pit. In my eyes, the best we can hope for is a mix of new and old sounds on #GlobalWarming.
