Yet another tip of the cap to Skrillex for continuing to produce great music and collaborate with really talented vocalists. This time NSTASIA dialed up Sonny for a steady knocking, tumbling Hip Hop beat on Parachute. Her angelic vocals play up really well with the steady dose of bass and dreamy samples she finds herself surrounded by. It's a pretty down-tempo track for what Skrillex usually puts out, but at this point, I'm beyond trying to put the type of music he's capable of making into a nicely packaged box. The truth is he's blown past the title of DJ and at this core, he's really just a talented music producer. If you're a fan of the one below I'd encourage you to give a listen to NSTASIA's upcoming New Religion album that will be hitting stores next Friday on November 17th...#Parachute

Skrillex Flips a Bonkers Remix of Kendrick Lamar's Humble

If you're a gambler or someone who enjoys anything high stakes, you'll be a fan of the remix below. Leaving aside the fact that Skrillex decided to go in on a Kendrick Lamar track, he decided to flip the crown jewel of them all, Humble. Check the video for the original below for added context in case you've been hibernating the past year and missed it...



How in the hell do you improve on a modern day classic like Humble? Let's just say I was skeptical, but Skrillex mustered up a 98 mph fastball and brought all the heat he could muster on the remix. The most refreshing aspect of the remix was the acapella lead-in. You'd be hard pressed to find me another EDM/Hip Hop/Trap track that had the balls to start the track sans a beat. Oh and don't sleep on those arena-filling horns post-drop, they go hard af. If I had to give it a grade, I'd give it a B+ because it was an impossible task and Skrillex damn near shot a hole-in-one...#HumbleRemix

Plenty to latch onto in this week's buffet of top videos. There's plenty of humor, stellar videography, and even a noteworthy duet. Let by the satire of South Park who had their Jim Bob character channel both Kendrick Lamar and Amazon's Alexa simultaneously, the week got off to a quick start. Let's just say hearing a country rendition of Humble was more than a little funny. While we're at it, might at well keep the laughter going with Dillon Francis's cameo on First We Feast's Hot Ones. If you were wondering whether the wings they eat on the show were really hot, your question was answered this week.

Switching to a different vibe, Avicii came through with a trailer to his new upcoming documentary, True Stories. In the doc, you can expect to learn about a lot of the struggles that led to Avicii momentarily retiring. It's going to be an interesting look into the trade offs between health, friendships, and stardom. Speaking of stardom, Jas Davis is at the forefront of visual expression. Being Skrillex's right hand man sure has it's perks. For one, when it's your birthday Skrillex throws you a bone by sending you an unreleased beat to use for your new video. And last, but not least we got a sliver of the late Amy Winehouse. Both Dua Lipa and Gallant did everything in their power to do justice to her classic Tears Dry on Their Own. Basically anytime Gallant is being recorded live, count me in. Dude is hands down on of the best vocalists on the planet right now...#TearsDryOnTheirOwn

Hard to imagine a more versatile producer than Skrillex. After running EDM for years and recently conquering pop with Bieber, he's now dabbling in dancehall. On So Am I, he set the table nicely for Ty Dolla $ign and Damian Marley to vibe back and forth over a laid back island flavored beat. Sure, there are some Skrillex-esque echoing synths mixed in, but man those vocals are addicting. At this point Skrillex could make country music and I'd still tune in. He can do it fast or slow, turnt or laid back, it all works for him. Word has it this nugget will be landing on Ty's upcoming Beach House 3 album. A buffet of awesomeness is what you can expect for this week's top five. Starting strong with a space themed lyric video from one of Avicii's new hits, Friend of Mine. Normally lyric videos are reserved for daily posts and not the top five, but it's the first Avicii video in a few years, so it gets treated differently. Following close behind is Skrillex and Poo Bear's new video fro Would You Ever. Let's just say I never knew what skateboard dancing was until I watched that video.

In case you haven't given up on documentaries after watching the latest 2pac movie, we all get a chance for redemption with the new Biggie Smalls story. Much of the trailer is filled with legends like Nas and Jay Z waxing poetic about Big Poppa, but the fact that A&E put together the documentary gives me hope that it'll be better than the overly Hollywood 2pac documentary. Another video of note was Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj's comedian cameo heavy video for Swish Swish. It's an addicting track and the visuals did nothing but improve the chances you'll like the track. And last, but not least, the next Marvel hit is almost ready to come out of the oven. This time it's Thor with the the help of Hulk and Dr. Strange. If you need some recent proof that OWSLA is building a stacked roster of talent, look no further than the track below. Favor meshes tranquil vibes of Vindata with Skrillex's edgy, energetic riffs. Add in some mellow vocals from NSTASIA and you've got yourself on hell of a collabo. The measured pace on the track affords a ton of room for the stylistic differences to shine throughout different parts of the track. If it weren't for Skrillex, I'd feel confident characterizing this as mellow electronica. But the high-pitched synths he's able to inject post-drop are what elevate the track to new heights. A quick hat tip is in order for Skrillex who continues to put out great music while continuing to build his own army of EDM badasses...#Favor

Is Jersey Club making a comeback? A few weeks back Marshmello paid homage to Bmore Club with his Mask Off remix and now we've got a DJ Sliink sighting this week. Saint Laurent is as energetic and chopped up as you'd expect from a Jersey Club track. It fits the stop and go, bass heavy vibe of many previous Skrillex tracks. I love that the beat reminded Wale of DC's Go-go style, building a bridge to his vocal contribution on the track. If you're used to the "usual" EDM sound, you'll enjoy the novelty of this one. Just when you thought Skrillex was starting to focus all of his attention on making music for other superstars he comes out with a fresh new single that collectively makes everyone's speakers smile. Would You Ever features chopped up vocals from Poo Bear and a steady thumping bass line that has the capabilities of igniting the lamest of parties. It has that brand new, yet retro Nu-disco sound to it that feels fresh, but familiar. It's not a sound you'd normally associate with Skrillex, but that's a testament to how many tricks he still has up his sleeve after years worth of making music. At this point, there's no limit to the amount of ass Skrillex is capable of kicking. He may not get the credit he deserves for the wide range of sounds he's capable of maneuvering, but his recent run of production credits is awe inspiring. Just over the past six months he's reunited with his emo rock crew From First to Last for a comeback single, helped produce a house compilation, blown collective minds with an all-star EDM collabo and now you can add the production of Hundred Waters new one to the list.

Particle is exactly what you'd expect if you're already a Hundred Waters fan. If you're not and you see the Skrillex production credit, you're probably going to wonder wtf. I geek out over unexpected collaborations like this because they're such a treat if you're willing to open up your mind and be open. Nicole’s vocals on the track are the definition of stand out. When combined with the tranquil vibes on the beat, you've got yourself a dynamic duo. This one is going to get worn out on my Spotify over the next few days, beliedat...#Particle

As if OWSLA wasn't already dominating EDM already, they're now going to churn out more house music. You wouldn't normally associate Skrillex with house music, but he's proven time and again to be a quite capable of making any music he sets his mind to. Like for example his new collabo with Habstrakt off the upcoming HOWSLA compilation. It's has the quirkiness you'd expect, but the non-stop energy and pace of Chicken Soup is addicting. It breaks the normal build up and drop formula with steady, thumping beat that is offset with simple, quick vocals. If the goal was to open up listeners' imagination and get away from the type of music you'd normally hear from the OWSLA, then I'd say mission accomplished...#ChickenSoup

Only in a made up, happy Zelda music world can we all collectively imagine three EDM bosses like marshmello, Skrillex, and Slushii graduating from high school together. Moving On is a shameless nostalgia play using moving onto college as an apropos analogy that fits in nicely with the vibe of the track. It might be the most play dough soft EDM imaginable, but damn is it easy to listen to. Everything from the heavy bounce to the video game synths aligns perfectly with everything we've heard thus far from mello. Consider it a nice light snack with added novelty if you're in the market for a new motivational anthem...#MovingOn

Storytelling was the common thread in this week's top five. Led by E-40 and G-Eazy's 45 min Bay Area biopic, there was well over an hour's worth of material this week. If you're in the market for unique, a drummer named Matt McGuire did a pretty dope cover of Madeon and Porter Robinson's Shelter. With EDM teetering between synthesized music and live instrumentation, it's cool seeing the backbone of the beat in its rawest form.

If you're wondering what it's like to tour with Skrillex, you've now got a full eleven minute summary of his last tour to wade through. I've always been someone who has mad respect for people who do the dirty work behind the scenes to produce the end result of what you end up hearing, so it was cool to go behind the curtain. If passionate love is something you enjoy watching, you'll enjoy the visuals for Snakehips and MØ's Don't Leave. The song was emotional enough, but seeing it come to life gave it a whole different meaning. And last, but definitely not least, we've now got a Gorillaz sighting. With the help of acclaimed poet and British composer Benjamin Clementine, they put together a pretty surreal video for Hallelujah Money. Weird doesn't do that video justice, but it does everything it needed to start the hype train for their new album...#HallelujahMoney

The Trifecta of Awesome Get Together on Waiting

Stop the presses y'all, you're not going to see a more high powered collaboration than this one. It's not a typo, RL Grime, What So Not, and Skrillex got went all in on a track together. Before you expect an earth shattering, festival inciting party starter, check your expectations at the door. Waiting is filled with tidbits that will remind you of all three of the producers. You've got the gritty, twisted horns, and sharp drums that will remind you of a lot of RL Grime's experimental style. Then there's the storytelling ebb and flow with plenty of bass that What So Not brings to the table. And if you're not nodding in anticipation while thinking to yourself "this has to be a Skrillex architected drop" then you've been missing out in his music. It's an interesting blend in that there's a really cool mix of dark and melodic. My guess is if you're a hardcore fan of any of the three artists, you'll find a way get into this one...#Waiting

Live performances were the name of the game in this week's top five. Led by The Chainsmokers and Desiigner's 360 video from their recorded performance at Austin City Limits, the bar was set high from the start. It was set high, but Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals brought every ounce of funk the set of Ellen when performing Come Down. I'm still in awe of how he's solving the timeless problem of Hip Hop not being able to be translated into a live show. "You're damn right it can be and this is what it should look like," says Anderson. And even though it's probably more of a personal novelty to me, seeing Slushii, Skrillex, and Marshmello share the same decks on a B2B2B was a cool sight. I don't expect you to be interested enough to watch the hour long Shanghai set, but if you skip around you might just be as entertained as I was.

Then there was the trippy forest video for Frequency that Kid Cudi self-directed. It was about what I expected from Cudi, but music aside, I'm in total support of him tackling his demons head on and seeking help this week. It takes a real man to admit when he needs help and I'm extremely glad he reached out before doing any harm to himself. In case you missed it, here was his incredibly brave and transparent note about why he was choosing to seek help during a time when he's releasing an album. And in case the music wasn't entertaining enough, there was that time Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon made their way through NYC's scariest haunted house wearing GoPros. There's always something funny about seeing comedians get scared to death, even if it's staged...#WhatNow

There's a new breed of Hip Hop performers that are making a name for the genre on stage. If you're not picking up what I'm putting down then look no further than Chance the Rapper and Anderson .Paak's latest live performances. Chance took to GMA to show off his brand new single Summer Friends, while Anderson used every bit of space in the room for his tiny desk concert for NPR. Both artists are out to prove that Hip Hop music is fun to consume live and I'm digging every bit of their live shows.

Before we turn the page on Hip Hop, let's not forget about Logic's ode to everyone's favorite video game character. Everyone loves Mario and like you, I'd go ham if he brought him out on stage. If strange is what you're looking for, then look no further than Skrillex and Wiwek's new short movie for Still in the Cage. I'd at a loss for the whole plot line of that short flick, so I'm hoping you're in the mood for odd. And if you're missing out on aliens, then don't worry, Amy Adams is the translator you need. I'm stoked for Arrival and will be lining up at the box office when it comes out in November...#Arrival

It's an understated lineup, but this week's top five is chalked full of a lot of new artist that I'd call emerging favorites of mine. Led by the joker/mad lyricist Lil Dicky and the mysterious Marshmello, there's plenty to be excited about below. If you've never seen Lil Dicky on the mic, you need to see him hold his weight next to Desiigner and Anderson .Paak in this year's 2016 XXL Freshman Cypher. Then, if you're stuck on thinking Lil Dicky is merely a rapper, take in his new video for Molly. Needless to say, there's a bit more depth and storytelling than you'd expect from an up and coming rapper.

If EDM is what you crave then I don't need to tell you how much you need to make an Electric Forest pilgrimage. I haven't been to all the festivals, but I do appreciate the wrap up videos and how well the capture the sentiment and energy of the festival. Speaking of EDM, #mellogang rolled deep on the Alone video. He may make happy-go-lucky dance music, but you can't hate on how carefree and fun it is to listen to. And last, but probably first, the behind the scenes look at how the Hundred Waters, Skrillex, Chance the Rapper collaboration came to fruition was a really cool watch. Seeing how the vibed off one another and the remix organically came together was a fun watch. It's easy to assume that these live performances just come together, but in reality it usually takes months of making it right before we finally get to listen to it. Such a fun collabo...#ShowMeLove

With Hip Hop making a surge back into my life, it's only appropriate that I include some Hip Hop love in this week's top 5. Led by a lot of Chance the Rapper, there's plenty of evidence as to why he's becoming the next big name in Hip Hop. Not only did he steal the show on his performance of Show Me Love, but he also crafted a lyrical intro to Colbert's late night show. Pretty cool of Skrillex to act as his hype man and back him up on that while manning the guitar during the performance.

Folks, we've got a new stoners anthem thanks to the two biggest potheads Hip Hop has ever found. Wiz Khalifa and Snoop's Kush Ups is so punny and apropos, it's disgusting! Jokes aside, that beat in bangin'! If you've missed Krewella, they're back to making music and creative videos with Broken Record. Hate on them if you want, but they make entertaining videos. Last, but certainly not least is Obama slow jamming' the news. Sure, we all wish it wouldn't have come off quite so serious, but Jimmy and The Roots did what they could to back him up and bring some comedy to the news...#SlowJamTheNews

There are two clear cut favorites in this week's top five in my eyes. First, the live debut of Kygo's new single, Fragile, with Labrinth was more than a little awesome. What a cool ballad! I can't wait to hear the mastered version, which will probably be slightly more electronic. Second, Seal and Gallant's Weight in Gold duet in studio was worth a few looks. While Seal doesn't get near the credit he deserves, he more than held his own with Gallant on the mic. When they combined forces, the result was special.

Was it entertaining to watch Jonah Hill sing Drake's verse on Future's Jumpman? Yep, you bet it was. Glad they're getting more an more creative with the monologues on SNL. In other news, DJ Khaled is continuing his assault on pop culture through Snapchat. Now he's even landing on talk shows like Ellen to talk his motivational talk. Crazy how social media can be used as a tool to get so much notoriety. And last, but not least, Skrillex and Jauz released their new animated video for Squad Out with Fatman Scoop. Leave it to Adult Swim to put together something that trippy. Did I see Fatman Scoop with an elephant nose? Still trying to wrap my head around the plot of the video, but that's kinda of what Adult Swim does...#SquadOut

Bit a down week for videos to kick off March, but that's to be expected with the ridiculous amount of award shows lately. That being said, there were so undeniably powerful videos this week, led by Lady Gaga's performance of 'Til It Happens to You. The fact that relatives of hers found out that she was a victim of sexual assault as a result of her performance speaks to how difficult it can be to open up about such traumatic events. Needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye in the audience as it hit everyone directly in the feels.

In the world of actual music videos, Jack U released some adventurous footage of their travels across the world on Mind. We also got a nostalgic snack seeing old footage of 2pac in the studio recording MC Hammer a reference track. The world may not fully appreciate how great of a producer he was too. In the world of late night, Kimmel found a way to sneak into a Batman vs Superman scene, which was more than a little funny. And last, but definitely not least, the video that needs no introduction. If you were living under a rock and didn't see John Oliver's complete evisceration of Donald Trump then please set aside 20 minutes of your time to watch. We all fear what could happen when election time comes up next year, but I am proud that there are people out there who aren't afraid of being sued and will willingly do their best to expose him...#MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain

Usually when I think of jungle dance music, Major Lazer or Jack U come to mind. Seeing that Skrillex makes up half of Jack U, it should come as no surprise that his new collaboration with Wiwek and Elliphant sounds like something taken out of a tribal rave. The gentle reggae build up will lure you into thinking it's a chill dance track, but that goes out the door post-drop when the bass comes in like a hammer. The mix of soft vocals from Elliphant contrasting with the sharp synths and jagged samples are what ultimately make the track memorable. Those of you looking for that hype new dance track may want add this one to the weekend Spotify playlist for tonight's party...#Killa
