Videos of the Week August 18th

Complete and udder randomness is what you can expect in this week's top five. Led by Gorillaz new augmented reality club video for Strobelite, the bar for creativity was set high from the start. But then it was quickly surpassed by Snapchat's new awe-inspiring Crowd Surf feature that debuted at Outside Lands last weekend. Basically through timestamps and such, they're able to splice together a whole lot of video and audio to create a seamless audio experience as the perspectives switch on the stories that are pieced together. It may seem like a small thing, but jumping from cut to cut of the same song is not a fun listen. Kudos to Snapchat for pioneering and Lorde for debuting.

Continuing the quirky, out of left field videos with Logic's animated cameo on the latest Rick and Morty episode. Definitely willing to cop to never having watched an episode before his cameo, but now I'm intrigued. Oh and did you ever wonder which of the Seven Dwarves Snoop wanted to punch in the face? Or how Snoop remembers passwords despite being high all the time? Well, luckily Jimmy Kimmel got some quality one-on-one with the Dogfather to ask him. And last, but one of the greatest closing videos of the week, we have the Kyrie and LeBron saga played to the tune of Eminem's Stan. The way it's able to creatively cut through the tension of the situation using Em's template is exemplary. Shout of to AOK for throwing that together. If you're at all familiar with the situation, you're going to be more than a little entertained by it...#Stan

Videos of the Week June 9th

Quite the assortment of videos this week with a bunch of new music videos and a few interesting clips outside of music. Led by a Japanese theme and featuring Big Boi in a European-style king throne, the video fro Kill Jill was as cold as you'd expect from Sir Lucious. His rapport with fellow ATL-iens Killer Mike and Jeezy can't be understated. There's a reason why they run Atlanta and that was on full display on that track. Continuing on the music tip, Bebe Rexha and Weezy did a really good capturing the inspirational of the track for the video of The Way I Are. And while we're on music, don't sleep on the up and comer Saba. His verse on the remix of Gallant's Bourbon is top notch.

Outside of music videos, it was inspirational to see Chance the Rapper continue to spread positivity when confronted about racism in America. His praise of how Lebron handled his latest spray painting of his house showed how both he and King James deserve to be thought leaders in an America that needs more people to have informed, educated takes on social issues. And last, but not least, I'm ending the week on a funny note with Fallon reading off some mostly outlandish tweets about terrible summer jobs. That one about peanut butter in a dumpster didn't seen real, but nowadays you really never know...#MyWorstSummerJob

Videos of the Week June 21st

Definitely not the norm putting two commercials in videos of the week, but let's just say there were a few companies who stepped it up this week in anticipation for the 17.7 overnight rating that game 7 of the NBA finals recorded. That's good for 2nd place all time for an NBA game on ABC only trailing the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics game 7 in 2010, which had an 18.2 overnight rating. Nike's voicemail bit was creative and if you're not extremely excited about Jay-Z's upcoming Magna Carta Holy Grail album, then you are no friend of mine. Pretty cool to have a company buy a million of your records before it even comes out. Too bad Billboard hit the brakes on that auto-platinum status!

In other news, more people need to hear the story of reformed pimp and author Iceberg Slim and Nardwuar is still a strange cat. Have a good weekend y'al, I'll leave you with this gem...#SignsThatYoureRatchet

Videos of the Week March 1st

First off, the whole Harlem Shake revolution has officially jumped the shark. Near the end here, we've seen some fun ones like the Miami Heat one below, but nobody can top the YouTube Easter Egg Harlem Shake. Copycat dance crazy aside, the video below by @KeeganMKey and @JordanPeele of @KeyAndPeele wins for this week's most entertaining video. When it comes to fresstyling outlandish ideas, it doesn't get any better chemistry wise than the Comedy Central duo. For all the Hip Hop heads who were salivating over the many behind the scenes shots, the video finally arrives this week. The track is literally at the basement floor of what I'm able to tolerate when it comes to dumbed down, flashy, ignorant trap muzik, but between this and Ice Cream Paint Job I simply can't turn it off when it comes on...#TrapMuzik

Videos of the Week Feb 3rd

Great mix of content on this week's version of videos of the week. Couple dunk of the year nominees, with three high profile videos, a sick @rickyrozay birthday bash and some Eastbound and Down to top it off. All you really need to remember is the date February 19th. That my friends is the day that @kfuckingp comes back for Season 3 of his circuitous and hilarious journey through life. Can't wait and as Kenny would say, "This gorgeous sunset is rockin' my nuts off!"...haha. Doesn't get much raunchier than that, but I love it. Have a good weekend y'all!

Throwback Thurs: "Born N Raised in the County of Wade"

With all this excitement that's being generated in and around the Miami metro area with the signing of the Three Kings (pictured above), I couldn't help but Throw Thursday all the way back to 2006 when DJ Khaled introduced us formally to what we then called Dade county. When I think of Dade County, I think of Pitbull screaming 305 on every track, I think of The Runners beats that make you wanna drive fast (yes I know they're from Orlando, but they have been behind 90% of all the noteworthy hits to come out of the 305). I think of Rick Ross's raspy flow over loud beats and most noticeably I think of DJ Khaled yellin' WE THE BEST!! and LISSSSTEENN!! over every track.

Many will point to Uncle Luke as the King of Miami in terms of putting Hip Hop on the map. Me, I was a little too young at the time to gain an appreciation for that, so it started for me with Trick Daddy around 1998 when his single Nann got some radio and TV exposure. Looking back it may not have been the highest quality Hip Hop, but it started burning the coals around the Miami Dade County area for Hip Hop. My next memory came when I was on a baseball trip to Boca Raton my freshman year hearing Oye by @PLANETPIT on a local radio station and being genuinely excited about the sound of Miami's upbeat Reggaeton infused Hip Hop. That was his first track and while he's stepped up his game from that point, his music still hasn't changed all that much, which is cool.

Since then it has grown so much that it's one of the hotbeds of Hip Hop, mostly on the backs of @PLANETPIT and @rickross305. Sidebar: If you haven't copped Ross's new album, he definitely shows off a more laid back side of his game, which lends to a higher quality sound if you're a fan. I love his past @COOLANDDRE/@THERUNNERS tracks though, so to me my favorite part is missing, but still it's definitely worth copping the Teflon Don.

Give the real Dade County anthem a listen while you're at it...hate to give all the credit to production but The Runners beat goes HAAARRRD!

While I'm at it, let's address all this Wade County talk and non-stop booty chatter by @DWADEOFFICIAL, @chrisbosh and @kingjames. In case you somehow missed Lebron forecasting that the Heat will win up to 7 titles on the night he signed, it came off as pretty ridiculous. I mean I've heard of believing in yourself and  your teammates, but maybe a little too much hype?? I can see why Cudi wanted to congradulate you with the back of his hand after dumping Cleveland publicly and Dan Snyder's reaction was a little bit too much like an ex-gf, but when I think about it, I'm missing the end game here with all this talk. If you predict it and do it in 7-10 years, you know you'll be able to unquestionably call yourself the man and I can respect you setting public goals to self-motivate. Just understand a whole lotta people don't like that type of off top cockiness especially when it's unfounded so far. Time will tell, but until then I'm gonna cop one of these fresh Wade county joints. White or Black?
As a final aside, what's even more annoying is now rappers are jumping on your bandwagon of predictions and claiming it's in the bag. SMH with capitol melontruckin' letters y'all. Seriously!? Man I really hope Hip Hop in Miami benefits from the exodus to Miami and doesn't lead everyone thinkin' they're on top of the world when a game hasn't even been played yet. Cool out y'all...on the real...

Song below if you care to listen to listen to the consequences of Lebron's prediction...

"We in the Same Game Playin' With a Different Ball"

As I'm sitting here watching this absolute hype-fest/swagger display that @kingjames, Wade County and Bosh Pit are displaying onstage together, I can't help but laugh to myself. On the real, it's pretty cool to watch three star athletes doing exactly what they want regardless of what anybody else says and still manage to look like three lil' kids giddy as a melontrucker, laughin' at any and every bold prediction they make onstage. In case you didn't catch it watch below, it put a smile on my face just to them havin' the absolute time of their lives, talkin' out their ass at the amount of champinshipns they're gonna win, knowin damn well many NBA players (@mogotti2 here) are jealous as hell that they're all sacrificing to get on their Miami grind to win a title (while others were respecting the grind @Oneandonlycp3 here and @DwightHoward here).

Sidebar: Appreciated the Pharoah Monch - Simon Says intro...well done...golf clap x10.

The NBA parallels can be drawn to this song directly with all three respective free agents trying to live like rockstars...or in their case, smart rock stars that respect the game more than the average millionaire (@Amareisreal). You better believe they're going to be in the same game playin' with a different ball. Add to that the words of Drizzy Drake, "Some Miami women, tan lines showin', and they really bout whatever, sh** is mind blowin'". @DWADEOFFICIAL had 47 wins with no help last year...#NuffSaid. Too many quoteables, but in an attempt to paraphrase:
"Big fancy watches, who cares what the time is,
I just bought it cause it got a whole 'lot of diamonds"

"I do this baby, this my life this is not a hobby
I set the trends and watch these other clown n***** copy"

"What should I wear today the Bentley or the Range Rove
Maybe I should wear the SL6 with the brains blown"

"Me & my ballin friends came for the same object"

"I change cars like a clean man change draws"
All completely applicable to all three star athletes' lives right now, must be nice. What's also nice is Ya Boy, who is somehow still bubbling under the radar despite churning out track after quality track, attracting attention from every angle. Most notably, Akon's Konvict Music who just scooped up Ya Boy and ensured his first album's success (It's what @therealakon does). I'm sure not sure at this point which would be a better bet, a successful half a mil from @YBTHEROCKSTAR or an NBA title from the Three Kings. At this point it'd probably be a push...

Shouts out to @kajmirroyale for the production on the track below and @DEEJAYILLWILL who was also behind the creation the whole Elton John, K Young sample. Glad my shout out ended up getting back you via Twitter. Word has it we've got some Muncie ties, but for the record I agree. Lookin' forward to Tha Alumni...

"I'm Leavin' You Haters Like Lebron Left the Cavs Just to Heat it Up"

When I saw the news go final, I thought back to a Kanye verse originally off his track Brand New and on the You Ain't Gotta Ask remix with Jay-Z and Lil Wayne. Haven't mixed in a while, so here's a fun cut and paste job I threw together real quick...special thanks to Drizzy for name droppin' Lebron so many times on You Know, You Know and giving plenty of cut/paste options...

Original Kanye lyric was:
"I'm relaxin, my feet is up,
I'm leavin u haters like when Shaq left the Lakers juss to Heat it up"

Drake Performs Live in Cleveland with Lebron James

Could this be one of the last memories Cleveland has of LeGone James? If it is, they should still consider themselves lucky for what he's done for the city because as Jay-Z eloquently put it, "And the question is, Is to have had and lost, Better than not having at all?"

My favorite part of the video (hands down) is his one of a kind, always well delivered pre-conceived freestyles at the 2:40 mark. Lyrics below.
"23 with a money tree,
growin' more like I just planted 100 seeds,
it's ironic cause my mother was a florist,
that's how she met my my pops and now my garden is enormous,
it's happening Penny Lane, just like you said,
I avoided the coke game and went with Sprite instead,
that's word to the millions they puttin' up,
I'm tryin' to do better than good enough"
Fast forward about 5 mins in the video to see where Bron Bron jumps on stage and helps Drizzy with some backgrounds as his hypeman. Pretty funny when Drizzy pulls a full on seduction of a lady onstage at the 6 min mark and ends up busting out laughing because he's doin' it right in front of Lebron. That would be hard for anyone to try and be serious seducing a lady in front of one of their friends, regardless of if that was The King.

Countdown to Thank Me Later...16 days.
Countdown to his next concert in my geographical vicinity...17 days
