Oshi and Baauer Are Cold Blooded

Want to know what instrumental greatness sounds like? Oshi and Baauer recently combined powers to put together a vocal-less, symphony of noise in Frozen. The dramatic, vibrant chord build up that comes crashing down with heavy bass and ominous horns make for a surprisingly chill, but energetic listen. It's not an easy task to tell a story without words, but there's such a fun ebb and flow to the track that I felt like I was being taken on an adventure through haunted woods. Take that for what it's worth, but hopefully it underscores the instrumental majesty below between two of EDM's most talented artists...#Frozen

Run the Jewels' Oh My Darling Gets Flossed

Combine the raw energy of Run the Jewels with the rowdy Trap vibe of Flosstradamus and what do you get? A dope, arena filling, headphone shattering symphony of bass with spicy ad libs. For a bit of context, check out RTJ's original, Oh My Darling (Don't Cry) before jumping into the remix...

Rather than a steady rumbling bass and machine gun raps, the remix) takes a more instrumental driven stance from the start. There aren't more than a few bars repeated and chopped from the original, but it's safe to say Flosstradamus picked the most incendiary samples. The mix of clangy percussion and bass reminds me lot of the type of stuff RL Grime and Baauer put out. Needless to say, it's a good look and a fresh take on a classic RTJ track...#OhMyDarling

Troyboi & Ekali Let Loose a Tour Favorite

Some of the best music we all end up hearing is a direct result of artists deciding to go on tour together. Case in point Ekali and Troyboi's latest creation Truth. If you've seen Troyboi on tour lately, this track is probably old news to you, but for many this is going to be an introduction.

The collabo hits on all the highlights of what you'd look for for the dynamic duo. You've got the melodic tones from Ekali mixing with the oriental, clangy bounce of Troyboi. It's a fresh instrumental, through and through. It skews more toward the smooth and refined front rather than a bass heavy party starter that both artists are capable of making. Not sure whether this is awesome or frustrating, but this is the type of unreleased track that may never get an official Spotify release. Still, you can't complain about a free download, so let's just say the options to consume are limitless...#Truth

"You Know I'm Neva Eva Givin' Up"

I've come to expect chopped up, heavy bangers from Troyboi, but they haven't always come loaded with a positive message. That changed on Never Give Up where a slowed vocal sample preaches a relentless pursuit of success. It's a slow banger with a calming ebb and flow of steady knocking bass. For those who can appreciate the beauty of simplicity, this one's for you. Steady stream this one on Soundcloud until the single drops on the official outlets...#NeverGiveUp

RL Grime Kicks His Tour Off With Dope New Single, Era

Here he goes again with those loud, arena filling horns. RL Grime has always had a reputation for being able to turn up to a level that most DJs could only dream of reaching. Need some recent evidence? Look no further than his latest single, Era, where he shows off that ceiling yet again.

The track takes a full minute to rev up and take off. When it does, it unleashes a symphony of bass, whiny horns, and a steady click-clack of percussion. What's cool too is the complete tear down and start back up of the beat multiple times throughout the track. Sure, all DJs love to follow the formulaic build up and drop model, but nobody does it quite as thoroughly as RL Grime. If you listen real closely, you might hear Redman cameo in the mix too.

Simply put, words won't do justice to how pumped I am to see him in concert next weekend in SF at Bill Graham. As an FYI, his tour kicks off tonight in Vancouver and will go all the way through Thanksgiving. Someone in between his upcoming Nova album will presumably drop, which means there's plenty of RL on the horizon in this neighborhood of the internet...#Era

"If There's a Cure For This, I Don't Want It"

Saying Troyboi is on a roll doesn't really do justice to the momentum he's running downhill with right now. If you're like me, you're still knee deep in Left is Right, which makes this new Diana Ross sampled single all the more surprising and awesome. If your parents never subjected you to her classic, Love Hangover, then shame on them, but also here's your chance to catch up by pressing play below...

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize the funk dripping off the original. Lucky for us, Troyboi was there to capture all that funkiness and reshape it into a form we're much more accustomed to. Leveraging the original vocals, Troyboi chopped, bounced, and clanged all over the original. The remix reeks of funk with plenty of bass to spare, managing to marry old and new in one three minute effort. For the time being, all I can offer is a Soundcloud link, but keep it locked for an official release...#DontWant

Troyboi's Music Doesn't Just Bang, It Kinjabangs

It's taken a few listens to Troyboi's new Left is Right to finally land on a standout track, but the cream has finally risen to the top. To date, the track I've liked the most of Troyboi's have been heavy, choppy, and full of attention grabbing percussion. That formula holds true on Kinjabang, but with an interesting oriental flavor. Not sure what language the vocal sample is taken from, but it sounds Chinese and matches the guzheng sounding chord progression on the beat. The resulting sound is playful, but goes hard and the cuts and scratches give it the unrefined edge that generally accompanies anything Troyboi puts out. Don't get it twisted, it's Trap at it's core, but the instrumental creativity on this track is dope af. Moral of the story is that you should check out his new EP because there's plenty more gold buried the mound of 20 tracks...#Kinjabang

Flux Pavilion Goes Hip Hop with Two-9 on Stain

When I need a rowdy, bass heavy, crowd pleaser, Flux Pavilion is on a short list of artists I lean on. To this day, I'm still baffled his remix of Faithless's We Come One hasn't gotten an official release. Official release or not, that mix is on the Mount Everest of bouncy EDM tracks.

Late last week Flux continued his bouncy crusade on more of a Hip Hop tip on Stain. With the help of some fire verses from Two-9, his new one walks a tight rope between rowdy Hip Hop and Trap. The jagged, aggro synth progression post-drop fits with what I'd expect from Flux, but without that you'd be hard pressed convincing me this one has anything to do with EDM. If your Tuesday is in need of some audio smelling salts, this one should do the trick...#Stain

Skrillex Flips a Bonkers Remix of Kendrick Lamar's Humble

If you're a gambler or someone who enjoys anything high stakes, you'll be a fan of the remix below. Leaving aside the fact that Skrillex decided to go in on a Kendrick Lamar track, he decided to flip the crown jewel of them all, Humble. Check the video for the original below for added context in case you've been hibernating the past year and missed it...

How in the hell do you improve on a modern day classic like Humble? Let's just say I was skeptical, but Skrillex mustered up a 98 mph fastball and brought all the heat he could muster on the remix. The most refreshing aspect of the remix was the acapella lead-in. You'd be hard pressed to find me another EDM/Hip Hop/Trap track that had the balls to start the track sans a beat. Oh and don't sleep on those arena-filling horns post-drop, they go hard af. If I had to give it a grade, I'd give it a B+ because it was an impossible task and Skrillex damn near shot a hole-in-one...#HumbleRemix

"Valet's on Me, Like Some Molly on Tamales"

Might as well hit the gas and go 0 to 100 on this glorious Monday. It should be no surprise that Krewella is at the center of the new heater with Yellow Claw below, but I am a bit taken aback by the Hip Hop vibe of the track. Given Yellow Claw's influence, New World is probably closer to Trap than Hip Hop, but the oriental percussion is what I'll remember most about the track. Sure, the spitfire bars from Yasmine and Taylor Bennett are also noteworthy, but you can't beat the rowdy bass and clangy samples. Follow me on over to Spotify to add this one to the latest party starter mix...#NewWorld

"I Come Through, Bull in a China Shop"

I never thought I'd get to say this, but Ice Cube's brash delivery on the mic is perfect for Trap music. Thanks to Troyboi's new Left is Right album, we no longer have to use our imagination to wonder what a crossover between 90s rap and modern day Trap would sound like. Thinking about it a bit more, Troyboi's heavy, chopped up style is the perfect bus stop for Hip Hop to hitch onto the EDM movement.

In all honesty, it's a chicken or the egg scenario. Did Hop Hop lay the ground roots for modern Trap music to thrive? Or did EDM blaze it's own path and start incorporating more bass, which made it appeal more to the Hip Hop heads? Is it now Hip Hop's turn to hitch a ride back onto the more relevant, boundary pushing genre in a evolve or get passed up sort of way? It's all fun food for thought, but what I do know is that Troyboi is running ahead of all of us in an effort to create the bounciest, most type form of music imaginable. That description right there is fitting for his new full length album. It's loaded, front to back. You'll get a few past favorites like ili and O.G., but for the most part, there's a ton of great new music to dive into. Feel free to choose your own iTunes or Spotify or Soundcloud adventure, but whatever you do, DO NOT sleep on this album...#LeftIsRight

"You've Got a Fetish For My Love"

Normally I'm critical of Gucci Mane's dumbed down lyrics and syrupy flow, but today he gets some long awaited dap. Thanks to Galantis's slow-burning, dramatic synth laden remix of Selena Gomez's Fetish, Gucci was able to stand out. Without a doubt, it was the deep, arena filling horns that made his slow flow palatable for a change. For those who like to compare, check the original version below where Selena gets all wet and sultry...

The more I listen to the remix, the more it reminds me of Flume. To be more specific, it's the stop and go synths post-drop that draw the comparison. Where the original was a middle of the road pop track, Galantis morphed it into a stellar slow trap banger. Check it out on iTunes or Spotify if you geeked on that Gucci beat like I did...#Fetish

"Make Love to Me Like You Never Have"

It took me a few listens to wrap my head around the one below, but I've decided I'm a fan. Simply put it's different. I haven't heard more than a handful of songs from Oshi, but this concoction of 90s style R&B with heavy bass is a good look. It's as if R&B and Trap had a one night stand and the result is a sultry love child in Stay. Even better, he reps positivity above all else. Peep the message below...

"with all the negativity goin on in the mf world yall need to realise that the only thing that perpetuates is the selfishness behind everyone wanting to be right, when in actuality if u all just shut up and listen to each other it might just help.. in other news i think i came out as bi officially today, so go make love to ur partner or partners ( no one is judging ) to this < 3 ily all –Oshi"

It's not hard to get behind someone who is unafraid to be themself in a world that is trending toward a lack of acceptance. Much love Oshi, keep repping love and others will follow...#Stay

"Summer Vibes Killed In Cold Blood"

Man...I love it when Baauer brings in the arena filling horns. The word grandeur comes to mind when the deeply ominous, reverberating brass and kick ass bass hit all at once. Sort of like in Baauer's new remix of alt-J's In Cold Blood. The vocals are sparse on the remix, giving the beat more than enough room to rule the roost. The ebb and flow of energy throughout the track give added emphasis to the depth of the bass hits post-drop. If you're a fan of Trap music, you've probably already given this a spin or two, but in case you haven't, iTunes or Spotify to your heart's content...#InColdBlood

HudMo Debuts New Track Passports on Silicon Valley

Leave it to Silicon Valley to debut a brand new bangin' HudMo track. As soon as the credits started scrolling on the latest episode the clanging synths came in with a truck load of bass. Then Remy Banks' slow flow comes in over the beat for added thug appeal. It's a perfect fit for what you'd expect from Mike Judge. Slightly obscure and packed with in-your-face intensity. The track is one of fourteen that will be surfacing on the new Silicon Valley Soundtrack that'll be landing on iTunes on June 23rd. If you're a fan of the show, you're going to want to take a few laps around this gem of an album...#Passports

Baauer Goes Double Time on a Flume Favorite

The beauty about Baauer's experimental style is that it always keeps you on your toes. One song he may be clanging pans together, while other's he may be out in nature recording obscure live nature sounds. It's truly a mystery box any time we get the opportunity to unwrap one of his creations.

Like for example, he tribal remix of Flume and Kucka's Numb and Getting Colder. Below is the original for reference...

The original was quiet, dramatic, and methodical, but Baauer's remix took a decidedly different course. Instead, the measured pace went double time, producing a Dancehall quality, booty shake anthem. It's not quiet as heavy as a lot of his other creations, but man is it a fun dance track. You have 100% permission to wild out and twerk to this new #banger.

"Back Again, Fresh Off Tour in the Trap Again"

It's not a stretch to say that when it comes to injecting energy into music, there's no one better than Flosstradamus. All you need is one listen of Sound Clash to verify that last statement. But that's not the end of the story because they're Back Again with their PICs Mayhem and Waka Flocka. It may not be the best lyric video I've seen, but you can get a glimpse of how turnt a Flosstradamus gets...

If you're in college, this has to be considered a Spotify must add if you're hosting a party in the coming weeks. Just promise me this, if you're going to use this to pour gasoline on a crowd, please don't skimp on the speakers because the top line and bass on this one need to be appreciated with subs. Consider yourself warned, bang this one out and if you're sitting in a cubicle, don't hesitate to make the folks around you turn their heads...#BackAgain

Kill Paris is Back With a Dose of Good Love

The artist formerly known as is back to his old bass heavy antics as Kill Paris. On Good Love, he flexes his trap muscles by sucking you in with a soothing vocal sample before hitting you in the face with a thunderous drop. It falls in that sweet spot of melodic trap that I'm slowly falling in love with as DJs get more and more creative, stretching and pulling EDM past it's boundaries of what we're used to hearing.

This new one will be landing on Kill Paris's upcoming Awakening EP that coincides with his Awakening Tour that will be coming to a city near you. And in case you missed it, he released a dope remix of The Chainsmokers Paris last week. Definitely give that a listen below and don't miss the free download of his new single...#GoodLove

Keys N Krates Deliver the Goods on New One, Right Here

If every week could end with a new Keys N Krates track to bang out over the weekend, we'd all be better off. Lucky for us, that came to fruition this week as they released a new single with KRANE titled Right Here. What you can expect is a bouncy, ball of energy packed with Keys usual high pitched vocal samples. It goes hard and doesn't dare look back, toeing the line between organized and chaotic, which is exactly what I expect out of one of my favorite Trap trios. Follow me on over to Spotify to earmark this one for many listens later...#RightHere

"Yea You Wanna Be Like Me, Like Like Me"

Sometimes an artists' favorite tracks aren't necessarily the fans' favorites, and vice versa. Take for example Baauer's track CandyMan. The folks at LuckyMe Records were all but pleading Baauer (Harry) to add the track to his most recent album Aa. Despite their pleads and the fans of the track on YouTube, it didn't make the cut for the album. But all good things come to those who wait and today we get ourselves a delicious slice of Trap goodness. You won't find any vocals on the track, but the pitchy vocal sample adds enough intrigue to carry the track. It sounds like something Keys N Krates would do and great minds think alike because it comes packed with bounce for days. Feel free and cop the track for free here and peep the long winded story below if you're someone who doesn't like the cliff notes...#CandyMan
"@Baauer made this in the room for Fetty Wap when recording 'Promises'. We have an original take of 'My Way' recorded over this beat. For months we hounded Harry to add it to the 'Aa' album and he made it into a full song. Harry took it off the album track list a couple months before release and we've been watching the YouTube comments ask for a release for months. So, here it is... Baauer one the best doing it." - LuckyMe Records
