Might as well hit the gas and go 0 to 100 on this glorious Monday. It should be no surprise that Krewella is at the center of the new heater with Yellow Claw below, but I am a bit taken aback by the Hip Hop vibe of the track. Given Yellow Claw's influence, New World is probably closer to Trap than Hip Hop, but the oriental percussion is what I'll remember most about the track. Sure, the spitfire bars from Yasmine and Taylor Bennett are also noteworthy, but you can't beat the rowdy bass and clangy samples. As polarizing as Krewella has found themselves the past few years, you have to credit them for rising above the negativity. Nobody has ever questioned their vocal talent, but I'm even more impressed with their ability to use EDM as a vehicle for positive energy. Take for example their new one, Be There. It's a track aimed at conjuring up nostalgia in anyone who has ever relied on someone for support. The mix of a repeatable hook and an excitable drop make for a fun listen. The Yousaf sisters brought their A game on this one and top 40 is going to eat this one up soon enough...#BeThere

Has it seemed like over the past year Krewella has been somewhat of a lightning rod? Whether it was their much publicized group breakup with Rain Man or subsequent lawsuit, there's been a lot of attention thrown toward the Yousaf sisters. Breakup aside, a lot of people have been wondering what their music is going to sound like sans a group member.

Well...after hearing their latest single, any concerns about whether they're taking a step back should start fading away now. Team is a statement track. It's a proud affirmation of moving forward as a group without a care in the world about what the rest of the world thinks. That type of IDGAF attitude mixed with on-point vocals and a post-drop, party starting chord progression is why this one deserves a look on your newest playlist. It's more of a weekend starter track than a weekend ender, but timing aside, it's the type of heat you expect from the unstoppable duo...#Team

With Hip Hop making a surge back into my life, it's only appropriate that I include some Hip Hop love in this week's top 5. Led by a lot of Chance the Rapper, there's plenty of evidence as to why he's becoming the next big name in Hip Hop. Not only did he steal the show on his performance of Show Me Love, but he also crafted a lyrical intro to Colbert's late night show. Pretty cool of Skrillex to act as his hype man and back him up on that while manning the guitar during the performance.

Folks, we've got a new stoners anthem thanks to the two biggest potheads Hip Hop has ever found. Wiz Khalifa and Snoop's Kush Ups is so punny and apropos, it's disgusting! Jokes aside, that beat in bangin'! If you've missed Krewella, they're back to making music and creative videos with Broken Record. Hate on them if you want, but they make entertaining videos. Last, but certainly not least is Obama slow jamming' the news. Sure, we all wish it wouldn't have come off quite so serious, but Jimmy and The Roots did what they could to back him up and bring some comedy to the news...#SlowJamTheNews

Videos of the Week November 20th

It's getting hard nowadays to find videos that don't involve Justin Bieber. Here I was thinking that Bieber's rendition of Sorry on Fallon was the only sighting in the this weeks top five, but then I watched the Zoolander 2 trailer that he found a way into. While the original Zoolander is considered by many as a modern day classic, I can't claim fanboy status on it. I will say that there aren't as many slapstick comedies nowadays, so I'm giving it a 40% chance of freshness on Rotten Tomatoes.

In non-Bieber related news, Krewella gave us a peek behind the curtain on their golf cart ride turned in-depth interview. They've caught a lot of bad publicity from their group breakup and found their way in the crosshairs of deadmau5 (like many others), but they still find a way to come off as genuine. Simply put, they make fun music and pour energy into their music, which is something that's really easy to get behind.

In other EDM news, Madeon's new video for Nonsense dropped this week. I'm always amazed by the futuristic aesthetic he injects into his videos. Last, but definitely not least, is Logic on the mic for seven straight minutes. Beat after beat, he stays in zone and shows exactly why he's one of the top lyricists in the game...#Logic301

Really the only thing you need to take away from this week's round of videos is that their is going to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie....and it's produced by Michael Bay. I'll let that sink for in a minute for all the 1980s kids in the audience who rocked every action figure and memorabilia known to mankind. I'm not sold on the fact that Michael Bay will have an appreciable effect on the overall movie since he's had hit and misses in the past, but his recent string of Transformer movies has the arrow pointed in the right direction.

In other news, you need to watch Jimmy Fallon and Russell Crowe cut it up last night singing Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues. As mentioned earlier in the week, Sam Smith needs to be a name in your musical vocabulary. Ellie Goulding is still adorably infectious and Krewella remains the artist I'd call first if I wanted to throw a killer rager...#PartyMonster

Videos of the Week January 24th

Eclectic mix of goodness this week with the top five videos. Kudos for Disclosure for the most creative video of the week. providing a fun mix of animation between real and digital. If Krewella's video for Human doesn't make you want to attend one of their shows, then you're not watching what I'm watching. The biggest music industry news of the week surrounded the release of Beats Music. It will be interesting if they can find a way to pull together the music streaming service with their product ecosystem. It was interesting to read the reaction from Spotify's founder who wasn't afraid to throw some shade at the new celebrity (Thom Yorke, Trent Reznor, Dr Dre) backed competitor. All I know is, more competitors means more options for the consumer, so it's good for those of us who like choices.

In other news, The Grammys are this Sunday and I'm looking forward to K Dot reeling in some awards for the musical rampage he went on this year. Equally as cool has been Macklemore's story and coming up without major label backing. Lots of positivity and exposure for Hip Hop, which will be great. As a bit of icing on the cake, I'll never get tired of the NFL's Bad Lip Reading. Part two just landed and it did not disappoint...#BadLipReading

There's nothing better than Thanksgiving break, especially when you get to spend it eating way too many delicious calories and watching way to much TV. Now that it's over, it's back to business serving up the best of what the music world had to offer this week in form of videos. I'm betting most of you have seen the new Eminem Rap God video, but you may have missed the revolution inspiring visuals from Headhunterz and Krewella. If you haven't your missing out because it's got a great message. It's points a flashlight directly at those trolls and internet gangsters that are tough as nails behind a keyboard. They may not realize it, but what they say doesn't always fall on deaf ears, so it's cool to see how they brought it to the forefront in a positive way. Beyond that, The Killers and Blended Babies new videos were pretty fun to watch. Plus, what would Thanksgiving be without a Timeflies freestyle...#VideosOfTheWeek

I'm really enjoying the fact that Krewella is becoming a household name because they make fun music. Like for example, their new movement inspiring track United Kids of the World with Dutch DJ Headhunterz. To be fair, the track is probably more pop than it is EDM, but the energy on the track is palpable. The build up of haunting synths offer a stark contrast to the soothing vocals of Krewella and give the track a dynamic quality. It's not a stretch to imagine a whole concert venue wildin' out to this one. To put it in plain terms, if you want make good house music, your parents better be from the Netherlands...#UnitedKidsofTheWorld

Anytime Justin Timberlake makes a video, it's a big deal. That didn't change a bit this time around because Riley Keough also starred in the video for TKO. For those of you at home who aren't familiar with who she is, you may know her better Lisa Marie Presley's daughter or Elvis's granddaughter. The video definitely did a solid job of selling the lyrics through the visuals of a love story gone way wrong. Like the Drake quote, "Sometimes the hottest love has the coldest end..."

Aside from that cinematic gem, Game put together a chill video for All That with Jeremih and Big Sean. Lil Wayne was unexpectedly absent from the video, which was odd. If you're in the mood for some EDM, give the Major Lazer and Krewella a look. Oh and this just in Drake is big time, so big time that The Raptors now have him on payroll. Hate on Krewella if you want, but I'm becoming a big fan of their brand of party music. Their mix of pop and dubstep is novel, but their schizo electronics are what set them apart from the usual pop group. I'm super pumped for their upcoming album, Get Wet, which is scheduled to hit iTunes in about a month on September 24th. Live For the Night was a big hit and I wouldn't be surprised at all if this one surpassed it in sales when all is said and done. If you're just arriving to college and need a go-to for this weekend's lineup of three-day weekend ragers, feel free and add this one to the mix...#WeGoDown

Krewella Lives For the Night

Now that EDM has fully embedded itself into American pop music, the path to mainstream success is much more well-defined for groups like Krewella. That's not to take anything away from them because they've been on the scene since 2007 and are recently starting to make big waves. The biggest wave, though, is on its way in the form of their upcoming studio debut album, Get Wet.

Speaking of the album, The Yousaf sisters and Rain Man recently sat down with Fuse to talk about their upcoming album and give the back story on how they came together as a group...
Pretty cool to hear how they formed as a group when Jahan pulled in her younger sister Yasmine to start the group. It's always a plus when you promote your music with condoms. Anyways, their Live For the Night is presumably the lead single off the album, which is scheduled for a September 10th release. It's a great lose yourself-type party track that is as uplifting as it is fun. Positivity plays well especially in the EDM realm, which is why I'm a big fan of Krewella...#LiveForTheNight

I'll be the first to admit that I'm only starting to gain an appreciation for recent @YoungMoneyPage signee, @staffordbros. Even though they just released their first big single Hello a few weeks back, I've admittedly glossed over some of their music that has been posted the past few months.

Case in point, their on point remix of @Krewella's latest single Alive that they did with @much_jealous back in October. The original version is great in it's one right, but the remix tastes a little more synthesized, which takes it up a notch...#YMCMB

You can definitely tell it's the holidays because there are little to no new videos being released by artists. As a result, this week is centered around Hip Hop interviews and getting different perspectives on upcoming releases (@bobatl) and even looking back to reflect on legendary battles like when @s_c_ and @DMX went to war with one another. I found it interesting that @kendricklamar shouted out @frank_ocean's Channel Orange as one of his favorites from 2012. I can't say I disagree with his opinion because Frank's album was in fact awesome.

I also learned that @krewella was a not just one person, it's a trio of two sisters (@krewellayasmine and @KrewellaJahan)and producer Kris "Rainman" Trindl. The sisters really aren't too difficult to look at and I'm impressed by their goal to have dudes singing to women vocals. The world needs more people breaking down stereotypes, it just so happens their music is so high energy they break different types of stereos too. Play on words a little forced? #SuckItImOnBreakToo

If you haven't heard of @AdventureDub yet, the track below should serve as a solid example of what to expect. With the help of @krewella, the duo of Christian Srigley & Leighton James managed to put together a solid single that has the potential to gain traction on radio. Given that Dubstep/EDM is becoming more and more mainstream by the day, it's not a stretch to predict radio success.

No word on when this will surface on an album, but given that the duo is from Montreal and Montreal loves dance music, you can bet they'll have a following in no time. Alright so it's a little overdue and the bandwagon has long left the station, but I'm coming around to this whole Dubstep movement. Dubstep is slowly finding it's way into Electronic music and with Dance/Electronic music starting to trickle more heavily into Hip Hop and American Pop music, the bridge is starting to form genre wise. The fact that I'm now talking about it is probably more of an indication that British music trends are more relevant than ever and I've tried to get the word about artists like @tinietempah and @labrinthda1st who are becoming more well known in America.

Sure we all heard Beibs is going to experiment with Dubstep on his new album, but nothing concrete has become of that rumor yet. Rumors aside, what you should takeaway from this post is that @SKRILLEX is one of the most well known Dubstep DJs and if you're wanting to become more familiar with the movement, it might be in your best interests to check out one of Skrillex's album Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites or his most recent album More Monsters and Sprites.

This past week he released a new EP album titled Bangarang, which doesn't feature his newest single below featuring @krewella on the vocals. Breathe is a nice combination of soothing electronic rhythms with radio quality vocals mixed with a little dubstep. It's about as pop as Dubstep will get until Bieber tackles it, but nonetheless, a good forecast of the storm that's coming.
