"It All Started with a Broken Heart"

I'll admit, the first time I was introduced to Rozes via The Chainsmokers, I wasn't sold. The song Rozes was solid, but far from my favorite release from Alex and Drew. Then Rozes dropped Matches with Cash Cash and I started to come around a bit to her quietly melodic style. That "you were made of matches and it burned me to the ground" hook had me singing along every time I listened.

This week my opinion of Rozes came full circle with her effort on Galantis's Girls on Boys. Her piano led vocal lead-in had me convinced Galantis had gone full folk for a minute. Then came the bouncy bass, tropical vibes, and a clap-heavy beat with plenty of bounce. If you read between the lines, there's plenty of sexual tension bubbling beneath the surface on the lyrics. It's a fun track that will take you through the entire gamut of tempos. Overall a stellar collabo that will be a welcome addition to Galantis's upcoming Dance album due out on Sept 15th...#GirlsOnBoys

"You've Got a Fetish For My Love"

Normally I'm critical of Gucci Mane's dumbed down lyrics and syrupy flow, but today he gets some long awaited dap. Thanks to Galantis's slow-burning, dramatic synth laden remix of Selena Gomez's Fetish, Gucci was able to stand out. Without a doubt, it was the deep, arena filling horns that made his slow flow palatable for a change. For those who like to compare, check the original version below where Selena gets all wet and sultry...

The more I listen to the remix, the more it reminds me of Flume. To be more specific, it's the stop and go synths post-drop that draw the comparison. Where the original was a middle of the road pop track, Galantis morphed it into a stellar slow trap banger. Check it out on iTunes or Spotify if you geeked on that Gucci beat like I did...#Fetish

"We Both Need Fixing, But They Can't Fix What's True"

Galantis's new one represents everything I like about EDM right now. There's so much fun, care-free music released every week that it's energizing. The slow build on True Feeling does everything in its power to invite you to keep listening and those who do are rewarded mightily with a bright, bubbly chord progress that is impossible to not nod your head along to. I talk a lot about nostalgia, but that's because are getting so good at evoking feeling with their music. In other words, you could probably make a candlelight acoustic ballad version of this track that would rocket up top 40 radio, but Galantis added a bit of tempo to it and subsequently, it's all the more addicting. It's slated to be the lead off hitter on Galantis's upcoming sophomore album The Aviary. It won't be landing until mid-September, which implies a lot of new music to look forward to in the coming months. Get pumped!...#TheAviary

"Pillow Fights Turn To Pillow Dreams"

With every new release I become a bigger fan of Galantis' brand of whimsical progressive house. While past favorites may have been more dramatic or nu-disco sounding, their new one strikes all the right melodic chords. Featuring a quiet build up, soothing vocals, and repeatable lyrics, Pillow Fight will gradually win you over as the track progresses.

Like a lot of new tracks, it comes equipped with a lyric video filled with plenty of behind the scenes footage to tell the story of the track. As someone who frequently posts lyric videos, I totally get it. It's a low budget way to add a little creativity and open up the song up to a wider audience. It's destined for Top 40 radio, so get it while it's hot...#PillowFight

"Girl Put Your Love On Me, Cause I Won't Let You Down"

Good things happen anytime an artist records with a live orchestra. You might not be able to tell it from listening to Galantis and Hook N Sling's new one, but Love On Me started from a great instrumental foundation. Add to that a vibrant, high pitched vocal sample mixed with calypso style steel drum synths and there's a lot to like about the end result. It's songs like that will be needed tonight when watching another presidential debate chalked full of yelling and mud slinging. Feel free and hit mute on the television tonight and replace it with this ray of sunshine when you've reached the breaking point tonight...#LoveOnMe

Star Wars Embraces EDM on Headspace Album

It's a sign of the times that electronic music and nerdiness are becoming more and more intertwined by the day. Sure, you've got the whole part about how electronic music relies on a lot of digital manipulation, which requires a lot of skill and artistry with computers that nerds have been known to know how to use pretty well. But until recently when video games started knocking on a lot of EDM artists' doors, there hadn't been a lot of soundtracks that were predominantly EDM focused.

Keeping all that in mind, today was a big day for electronic music. You don't get much bigger whales than Star Wars when it comes to hardcore fan bases. The fact that big names like Baauer, GTA, Kaskade, Galantis, and Troyboi were all featured on the new Star Wars Headspace album is nothing short of awesome. After giving the whole album a listen, I thought the album as a whole was a really solid mix of Star Wars samples and synths. It was not easy picking a favorite, but if you held a gun to my head, I'd go with Röyksopp's Bounty Hunters. If you close your eyes, you might think for a minute that you're listening to the Tron soundtrack, but around the 4:30 mark, the beat fully hits its stride. Really dope track overall, but by all means, give the full compilation a listen because Rick Rubin did an excellent job putting together a top notch collection of new music...#Headspace

"I'm Gonna Be Free, But Maybe Not Tonight"

2015 is slowly winding to a close. When I think back on it, there will be a short list of artists that have emerged, making the previous 365 that much more memorable. Near the top of that list is Galantis who have quickly become one of my favorite electronic duos. Gold Dust might be one of my favorite songs of the year and who could forget the funk they delivered on Peanut Butter Jelly?

This week they released a new spin on Florence and the Machine's Delilah that is as moving as the original. When listening to the remix it became abundantly clear that there's something about Florence Welch's vocals that meshes well with the energy that goes along with build ups and drops. To their credit, Galantis tossed in this really catching rolling bass line to the track that feeds the remix's big room sound. It's a testament to how the Swedish duo not only excel at making their own music, but they're capable taking vocal performances to another level...#Delilah

"Spread it Like Peanut Butter Jelly"

Is it me or is disco making a comeback disguised as EDM? With the help of Galantis that statement is starting to grow legs. I waxed poetic about my groupie like affinity for their latest single Gold Dust and now I'm starting to realize that I really just enjoy their music.

If you're expecting a remix to Peanut Butter Jelly Time, you're going to be momentarily disappointed at first. But then you'll find yourself getting sucked into this really catchy disco vibe that leans heavily on a computerized voice to carry the melody. The post-drop beat is everything your parents liked about the 70s with plenty of strings and horns. By my count, this is their third straight awesome single off their upcoming album, Pharmacy, due out in early June. I guess the only thing left to do is get them to come to the Bay Area to perform...#Pharmacy

The Next Big Track From Galantis - "You're Like Gold Gust"

If there's one thing I'll always have room for on any playlist I make, it's a jubilant electronic ballad. When I say that, I mean a song like Gold Dust with a soft piano lead in augmented by emotional vocals and eventually a feel good drop. Unlike many other EDM tracks, there's a full minute and 45 second lead in before the drop. That's a really long time, but because it's such a gradual build up, it makes for a dramatic and emotionally feel good vibe on the track.

Full disclosure, I'm only now starting to realize the awesomeness of Galantis. Without hesitation, I'd call their new single a huge step in the right direction. Prior to hearing the track below, I wouldn't have associated them with a song like Gold Dust. That's a great thing when a new artist you're intrigued by throws something right in your wheelhouse. Now, if they would only stop by the Bay Area for a show...#GoldDust

"I Wanna Runaway Cause You and I"

Usually The Chainsmokers are the ones responsible for introducing me to a new up and coming artists. This week, Dillon Francis took a turn by introducing me to Galantis, who had previously been in my blind spot. If you haven't heard the Swedish duo's original version of Runaway, it's catchy as hell...

The high pitched sample has an ear worm effect that sticks with you. Dillon found a way to leverage that sample while also adding in a bit of bounce on his version of the track. Instead of being happy and progressive house-y, it's much more hard hitting and head nod worthy. In general, I appreciate when a track has the ability to be mellow and dance-worthy, but have an alter ego that is much rowdier. This is a great case in point because both versions (and Kaskade's version for that matter) are likeable in their own ways...#Runaway
