Goldlink Gets It Right This Time With Diplo & MØ

You're probably already taken a fair share of laps around Diplo and 's recent banger Get It Right. But you may not have realized that it still hadn't reached its potential as a track. The playful, Future Bass vibe is addicting, but this new Goldlink verse on the remix took it up a few more levels. Leaning heavy on the Gospel-style piano beat that would even make Macklemore slow clap, Goldlink's verse fit in seamlessly with the soulful vibrance of the original. Goldie has a hardcore following at his shows, but the mainstream still hasn't caught on en masse to his ability as a lyricist. Hopefully this 🔥🔥🔥 remix changes that so he can grow that following to what it should be...#GetItRight

"I Will Rise and Shine, Even in the Coldest Night"

Same characters, but entirely different story. If you're thinking you're going to get another Lean On, think again. Instead, Diplo and took a Future Bass turn on Get It Right. Marked by a high pitched, wobbly vocal sample, there's a steady mix of Pop vocals and energetic bounce mixed throughout. It's destined to run a train on Top 40, but it may not have quite the ceiling of their previous collaboration. Saying that isn't a slight at all either, as the former was one of the tracks that will always be remembered from 2015. Needless to say, the Random White Dude has struck again and his new one below has some serious earworm potential...#GetItRight

The List of Redbone Covers Continues to Grow

One of the most impressive surprises in music last year was Childish Gambino's Awaken My Love. It seemed a little weird at first, but the more people listened to it, the more they understood the genius behind Donald's vision for the album. It's no surprise that the standout track on the album, Redbone, has turned into a modern day classic. To this day I'm still finding it hard to imagine Donald singing the vocals and it doesn't match up. Multiple views of his performance on the track on Fallon have helped, but it's still a stretch.

Back in March, Snakehips & tackled the track head on in BBC Radio 1's studio, setting the bar high for remixes of the track. Check it below in case you missed it...

Wiz must have been listening because he wasn't shy about releasing his own Weedmix of the track. Based on the title you already know he flipped it into a two minute and 45 second Mary Jane promo. Subject matter aside, he stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park. He has always had one of the smoothest deliveries on the mic and that was on full display below. He dropped a fire verse and then finished up with some soulful vocals than few rappers could claim to be capable of. Not sure about y'all, but I'm excited as hell for Rolling Papers 2. If you're one to indulge the green, check out his new growing simulation app Weed Farm too...#StayStoned

Videos of the Week April 28th

This week's top five hit a wide range of emotions from serious to quirky to feel good to funny. Leading the way was Kygo and Selena Gomez's video for It Ain't Me. Neither artist star in the video and to be blunt, the story it told was much deeper and sadder than I imagined when listen to the track. Maybe it's the Trop House vibe or the sultry vocals, but I did not picture that tragic of a tale.

Moving on from the sad to a much more adorable, quirky story from Cashmere Cat. Let's just say the colorful instrumental matched the odd story quite well. If you're as geeked as I am about Big Boi's re-emergence, you'll enjoy his funk filled performance of Mic Jack on Fallon. Sticking with a positive vibe was Jeremih, Chris Brown, and Big Sean's colorful, dance heavy visuals for I Think of You. You had to imagine any video with Chris Brown was going to include some dancing. And last but not least some awkward, yet always on point humor from Jon Oliver. Can't make up some of the stories he tells, which makes it even more awesome that they're usually all true...#JonOliver

"I Know, I Know, You'll Never Be Mine"

There's experimental music and then there's whatever you'd call Cashmere Cat's new track 9 (After Coachella). I've always been a fan of music that challenges the status quo, which is why you've witnessed a lot of Cashmere Cat sprinkled throughout the years. On his new one, he did his usual crazy beat making with all sorts of off the wall samples. There's very little repetition on the track, which is why it breaks the mold of what you'd normally hear.

If I'm keepin' it 100, I love and SOPHIE's vocals, the quasi-hook over heavy crashing beat and ethereal ending to the track. I'm not at all a fan of the quirky droplet beat progression mixed in, but that's the beauty of the music that lives on the fringes. You take some, you leave some and you're better off for having taken a trip outside your comfort zone. One thing's for sure, the song you hear below is an original piece and you probably won't hear anything like it...unless it was from Cashmere Cat or Baauer...#9AfterCoachella

Videos of the Week March 10th

It was bound to happen at some point, but this week there's a rare top five filled with all music. Leading the way was Snakehips and 's in studio cover of Childish Gambino's Redbone. I'll admit, it was a lot jazzier than I thought it would be, which was a cool surprise. After that there was a little bit of dark EDM (I Love You) and a little bit of fun EDM (Just Hold On) brought to you by Axwell Λ Ingrosso, and Steve Aoki. Both were cases where I got to re-live two songs I really like and had written about previously, but in more intimate ways.

If you were wondering whether Bebe Rexha was as good looking as her vocals led you to believe, you got a resounding answer to that question in her FFF video. Her and G-Eazy make for a dynamic duo and their chemistry is palpable. And if you haven't gotten a big enough dose of sexy, Jeremih has you covered on I Think of You. As a bit of icing on the cake, this week's top five ended on a high note with a roller skating dance video. Who doesn't love a good Hip Hop video at a roller rink??...#IThinkOfYou

Videos of the Week January 20th

Storytelling was the common thread in this week's top five. Led by E-40 and G-Eazy's 45 min Bay Area biopic, there was well over an hour's worth of material this week. If you're in the market for unique, a drummer named Matt McGuire did a pretty dope cover of Madeon and Porter Robinson's Shelter. With EDM teetering between synthesized music and live instrumentation, it's cool seeing the backbone of the beat in its rawest form.

If you're wondering what it's like to tour with Skrillex, you've now got a full eleven minute summary of his last tour to wade through. I've always been someone who has mad respect for people who do the dirty work behind the scenes to produce the end result of what you end up hearing, so it was cool to go behind the curtain. If passionate love is something you enjoy watching, you'll enjoy the visuals for Snakehips and 's Don't Leave. The song was emotional enough, but seeing it come to life gave it a whole different meaning. And last, but definitely not least, we've now got a Gorillaz sighting. With the help of acclaimed poet and British composer Benjamin Clementine, they put together a pretty surreal video for Hallelujah Money. Weird doesn't do that video justice, but it does everything it needed to start the hype train for their new album...#HallelujahMoney

"But Ain't Nobody Gonna Love You Better"

File this one under songs I knew I'd be writing about before pressing play. Damn near everything Snakehips puts out falls under that category, but you throw in some vocals and it's hard to hold back the expectations. That being said, I did not expect Don't Leave to be a vocal centered, power ballad. The instrumental amplifies the emotion dripping from the vocals, though, which makes for a catchy listen. It's the type of track you belt out in the shower or in the car coming home from a tough day. The line "I may not ever have my sh*t together, but ain't nobody gonna love you better" will be what sticks in peoples' minds, but credit to Snakehips for doing everything in their power to let shine and get the hell out of the way. I'm going to be playing the hell out of this in anticipation of top 40 radio playing it into the ground. Follow me on over to iTunes or Spotify...#DontLeave

"Don't Let This Be Our Final Song"

As a daily consumer of music, I like being surprised. When I say surprised, I mean a lot of things. It's surprised that someone finally released a song, or surprised that two artists collaborated. Or, like the song below, it could be hearing the original version of a track after being introduced to the remix and realizing it sounds nothing like it's predecessor. For reference, check the original version of 's Final Song...

The original is a soft, snappy, singing ballad. Then Diplo and Jauz got ahold of it and turned Final Song into a uptempo, Trop House banger. The vocals find a way to maintain that sing-along quality, while the increase in tempo dares you not to dance. If you were to bottle up the word fun and play it on full blast, it would sound exactly like this. I don't like to wax poetic, but I'm going to wear out this Soundcloud link until it's officially released...#FinalSong

Videos of the Week September 16th

A little bit of this and a little bit of that is the theme of this week's top five. If novelty is the name of your game, then you might enjoy Michael Phelps pulling his best Eminem impression when he lip synced Lose Yourself on Lip Sync Battle. If you'll allow me to be critical for a minute, I was expecting a bit more raw energy. Where's that gold medal effort Phelps?!?!

If you're like me, you've done your best to tune out politics, but when Hip Hip artists want to make a statement, they know how to get peoples' attention. The black and white aesthetic with the colored flag was tastefully done in the FDT Part 2 video from Macklemore, YG and G-Eazy. If spontaneous is what you want, it doesn't get more freestyle than Donald Glover riffing on stage with Late Late Show's Reggie Watts. A little bit of funk and some harmony is all you need to get people dancing. If an actual music video is what you're looking for then enjoy some tribal dancing in exotic scenery during Major Lazer and Bieber's Cold Water video. And last, but not least, the whole gang showed up on stage when Chance the Rapper performed on Ellen. Lil Weezy and 2 Chainz joined him on stage to perform their hit No Problems with a whole lot office destruction happening in the background. Can anyone say, 352 paper pickup?...#NoProblems

"I Will Jump Right Over Into Cold, Cold Water For You"

If you're looking for a hyped up single, it does get much more buzzy than a Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber single. If you're a Belieber, then you might remember reading him hyping new material back in early July...
Well...that track finally came to life today in the form of Cold Water. It's about as slow of a tempo you'll find for a Major Lazer track, but it has enough Dancehall rhythm to eliminate questions. Along with some soothing Bieber vocals, you'll also get a nice verse from Diplo protege near the end of the track. All that being said, it's tailor made for top 40 radio, so enjoy it quick before the masses get to it...#ColdWater

Ever Wondered What Reggae Frank Ocean Sounds Like?

Have you ever listened to someone cover another artist and thought to yourself, "I never would have ever imagined liking this track as much as I did the original." Especially when you're talking about one of the best R&B vocalists in the game like Frank Ocean, as the covering artist you've got a snowball's chance in hell to match the original. BUT , with the help of Major Lazer, did exactly that. Together they flipped Lost into a dreamy, reggae ballad, offering a complete 180 degree shift in sound from the original while maintaining the same quality. To put things in context, the song has been posted on Soundcloud for a few days and already has well over 700,000 plays. Again, no small feat and further confirmation that they did everything they could to give Frank's version a shiny new take...#LostCover

Videos of the Week June 26th

It's been a long while since I've gotten as much novel entertainment out of one week of videos. I found it extremely hard to narrow down a top five, which resulted in a list filled to the brim with quality. Like for example, when are you going be privy to watching Katie Couric interview Skrillex for 15 mins? Or how about watching NBA prospects dramatically read Drake lyrics and try to keep a straight face? Or how about the icing on the cake, how about Jimmy Fallon finishing Arnold Schwarzenegger's sentences? Nothing is greater than watching the Terminator giggle like a school girl.

If you were wondering how much Thomas Jack loves his dog Manny, you're absolutely in luck. Yes, Manny can sing too, so don't miss out on that. Finally, if you've every wondered what looks like or how well Diplo plays the guitar, we've got some of that this week too. Such a chill vibe on Lean On, I'm not sure I'll ever get sick of that one...#Fallon

Videos of the Week March 27th

Simply put, it was a loaded week for dancing in music videos. Led by the quirky dancing astronaut, Kygo set the tone with the visuals for his new single Stole the Show. Following closely behind is Major Lazer and DJ Snake's Indian dance anthem Lean On. And then bringing up the rear is a nerdy, Napolean Dynamite style water dancing display put on in Martin Garrix and Usher's video for Don't Look Down. If you appreciate unique expression through movement, there's enough here to get you through the weekend.

Cutting the dancing madness is the trailer for the highly anticipated HBO show turned movie, Entourage. After watching a few seasons, I'm excited to see what they can do with a full length movie. Sure, there are cameos galore, but hopefully the plot of movie is as stellar as the TV show. Closing out the week is a sultry video from Jason Derulo where he shows off his skill set as both a dancer and a wild lover. Want To Want Me is such a catchy track and the visuals definitely did the song justice...#WantYouToWantMe

Videos of the Week March 6th

This week, you can expect a few standouts mixed in with some humor. Leading the way is the 30 minute documentary style story that Complex put together on Shady Records. The documentary features a lot of interesting commentary from Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg. The parts focused on the signing of Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf toward the end were most interesting to me because I had always wondered what led to all the worthwhile lyricists in Hip Hop being gobbled up by Shady Records.

On the music side of the fence, Big Sean brought his A game with Drake and Kanye on the Blessings video. I'll say this, Dark Sky Paradise deserved to make it to the top of the charts. Speaking of top of the charts, that's where Major Lazer's new single Lean On is headed. Lyric videos can be so easily botched, but the vivid imagery did the track justice in their case. Finally, ending the week with some humor is never a bad thing. Led by DJs from around the world talking about the craziest things they've witnessed on stage and finishing with Action Bronson's entertaining interview on Dan Le Batard's Highly Questionable...#MrWonderful

"All We Need is Somebody to Lean On"

In Diplo we trust! One day after posting the news about the Jack U album dropping, Diplo and friends are at it again. This time in the form of Major Lazer, who is now headed toward a third studio album. Featuring the lead vocals from Danish vocalist (Karen Ørsted) and support from DJ Snake, Lean On is about as fresh as a mountain air sandwich.

The moombahton flavored track is more chill and rhythmic than electronic dance. To put it frankly, the track reeks of Major Lazer so much you could smell the ganja before you pressed play. There's a clear reggae footprint that pulls you in from the start, but the quirky synths are what make it stand out as a creation from the Mad Decent lab. Between this track and their recent standout on The Hunger Game Soundtrack, Major Lazer is on fire and continues to be a trend setting presence in the realm of EDM...#LeanOn

"Where the Sky is Blue Forever"

It's rare that I listen to a track and can't figure out on first listen why I like it. Usually there's some sort of long winded, overly adjective-d dramatic explanation that I can come up with to try and convey why I dig a track. Sometimes tracks like 's XXX 88 simply have an organic energy about them that is infectious and gives.

Maybe it's the horns and high octane vocals or the Diplo co-production that caught my eye. Either way, I'm a fan of the up and coming Danish artist that just so happens to be featured on Avicii's new album True. Evidently the track that was supposed to feature Lana Del Rey called Dance in the Water is actually going to be called Dear Boy and feature Karen Marie Ørsted or . I get how similar their voices are, but I would have thought there would have been some sort of clearly apparent correction that it wasn't Lana in the first place. Whatever the case, the fact that she's rubbing shoulders with some of the most talented DJs in the world should at the very least get your attention because it sure did mine...#XXX88 <---great song name to hashtag, take note artists
