"I Want You to Share That Air With Me"

Chalk this one up under the "I don't need to convince you to press play" variety. When David Guetta and Justin Bieber announce they're releasing a new single together people get really excited for days. Yesterday that day finally came to fruition with the release of 2U.

Does it have Bieber's pillowy soft vocals? Yep. Does Guetta bring his A game with a quiet beat and forceful, but catchy drop? You bet he did. It's never going to be the festival banger you may expect, but it has the power to to quickly climb the Top 40 charts over the next week. It doesn't hurt one bit that they employed a lyric video featuring Victoria Secret Angels lip syncing the track too. If you feel a little guilty for liking this for a minute, don't feel bad, I did too. Just give it a couple quick listens and move on before it hits the pop culture blender...#2U

Videos of the Week May 5th

This week's top five was unique in that it starts and ends with Jimmy Kimmel's monologue about the birth of his newborn son. If you don't get at least a little choked up over hearing the sadness in his voice over feeling helpless about the situation as a whole, then you need to check yourself. His story aside, I appreciated his story and how it directly relates the the healthcare bills that are being mulled over by the House this week. Let's just hope the listened and make the right decision, ultimately.

Aside from Kimmel's impactful story, there were a few videos in Hip Hop that had the internet collective pressing play over and over again. J Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only documentary was previously released via other outlets like HBO, but this week it got put on YouTube for consumption from the masses. The word real comes to mind when watching him go to the various cities in the South and hear stories from the people trying to make it through the day-to-day. Watching the documentary and then transitioning to DJ Khaled's star studded video for I'm the One was about as stark of a difference as you'll get in VOTW. Needless to say, everything about it was tried and true Hip Hop from the video girls to the pool parties to the immaculately trimmed hedges.

Making sure EDM got their contribution for the week was Gryffin and Illenium's Feel Good. The video is cool and all, but that candlelight version that features Daya's stunning vocals is officially where it's at. Speaking of where it's at, it wouldn't be a complete week without at least a few shennanigans. This time it came from Fallon's crew who put together a minute long mash up of Star Wars characters singing Smash Mouth's classic, All Star. It's kitchy, but it delivers the entertainment value you'd expect from a novelty like that...#AllStarWars

Zedd Takes His Turn Remixing Let Me Love You

Is it me or does it feel like everyone has remixed DJ Snake and Bieber's Let Me Love You? I posted the Marshmello remix last week and that was following Tiesto's After Hours mix. Luckily for us, the folks over at Your EDM put together a nice list with Spotify links to check out all at once and pick a favorite.

Now it's Zedd's turn to add to the pool of remixes and let's just say he made his mark. Quirky doesn't do justice to the excitable chord progression that ensues post-drop. It's a jumpy, energetic blend of happy chaos. If you're a fan of Zedd, you'll nerd out over this one. Me? I'm still trying to wrap my head around the craziness, but I appreciate the hell out of it's uniqueness...#LetMeLoveYou

Let Me Love You Gets Marshmello'd

As someone who moves on quickly from music created for Top 40 consumption, I'm already tired of hearing DJ Snake and Bieber's Let Me Love You. Yes, it's catchy af, but I'm more than ready for a reinterpretation already. Thankfully Marshmello came to the rescue this week with a characteristically vibrant mix of the original. The way he can chop up vocal samples into tones and use them as samples to spice up a track never fails to entertain. It's like adding some sriracha or hot sauce to leftovers, you still get the taste of the original, but now it tastes a little better than it did when you first made it. If you dig it, you know the drill, iTunes or Spotify to rent or buy...#LetMeLoveYou

Videos of the Week December 2nd

There wasn't really any rhyme or reason to this week's top five, so without further organization, here goes. Leading the way are visuals from everyone's favorite radio hit from DJ Snake and Bieber. Sure, Let Me Love You is catch af, but something tells me you might see an even better version of the track posted on here tomorrow (#foreshadowing). Moving along, someone finally managed to corner The Weeknd in a studio long enough for an interview. Hearing Zane Lowe interview Abel made me realize how my perception of him as some cracked out Starboy isn't entirely accurate. Sure, there has to be loads of talent in deck to get him to where he is now, but hearing about his process of making music and how his new album came together was an interesting watch. Mad respect Weeknd.

For a bit of concert porn, mau lovers got themselves something to get all excited about when Joel unveiled a new cube design for his live set. Knowing how much he nerds out over technology, I'm sure no expense will be spared in making it nothing short of awesome. For a bit of novelty, we got to see Flume re-imagine Ghost Town DJs My Boo live in studio with Vince Staples. Dude is a wizard on the MPC, so you could imagine how interesting his choppy, instrument driven remake sounded. And last, but never the least, MGK came through with Camila Cabello with some love/hate visuals that bring to life the story told on Bad Things. All I can say is, find me a more sexy and catchy hook out right now...#BadThings

Videos of the Week September 16th

A little bit of this and a little bit of that is the theme of this week's top five. If novelty is the name of your game, then you might enjoy Michael Phelps pulling his best Eminem impression when he lip synced Lose Yourself on Lip Sync Battle. If you'll allow me to be critical for a minute, I was expecting a bit more raw energy. Where's that gold medal effort Phelps?!?!

If you're like me, you've done your best to tune out politics, but when Hip Hip artists want to make a statement, they know how to get peoples' attention. The black and white aesthetic with the colored flag was tastefully done in the FDT Part 2 video from Macklemore, YG and G-Eazy. If spontaneous is what you want, it doesn't get more freestyle than Donald Glover riffing on stage with Late Late Show's Reggie Watts. A little bit of funk and some harmony is all you need to get people dancing. If an actual music video is what you're looking for then enjoy some tribal dancing in exotic scenery during Major Lazer and Bieber's Cold Water video. And last, but not least, the whole gang showed up on stage when Chance the Rapper performed on Ellen. Lil Weezy and 2 Chainz joined him on stage to perform their hit No Problems with a whole lot office destruction happening in the background. Can anyone say, 352 paper pickup?...#NoProblems

"I Will Jump Right Over Into Cold, Cold Water For You"

If you're looking for a hyped up single, it does get much more buzzy than a Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber single. If you're a Belieber, then you might remember reading him hyping new material back in early July...
Well...that track finally came to life today in the form of Cold Water. It's about as slow of a tempo you'll find for a Major Lazer track, but it has enough Dancehall rhythm to eliminate questions. Along with some soothing Bieber vocals, you'll also get a nice verse from Diplo protege near the end of the track. All that being said, it's tailor made for top 40 radio, so enjoy it quick before the masses get to it...#ColdWater

Videos of the Week February 19th

You'd be hard pressed to find a more stacked week for videos. Truth be told, it was hard narrowing down the ten or so videos that were in the running for the top five. Between the Grammy performances and Kanye performing on SNL, there was a lot of content to pick from. In my opinion, the Kendrick Lamar and Justin Bieber/Jack U performances were the most memorable, but I'd give Lady Gaga's David Bowie tribute a solid honorable mention. And as far as Kanye goes, I don't really have word for Ultra Light Beams. It's dramatic, it's emotional and it's everything you'd expect in a Kanye performance.

In the land of non-live performances, Flume came through with some trippy and emotional visuals for his new single Never Be Like You. Love everything about the slow trap movement, which includes slow bangers like that one. And for some a humorous ending to the week, there's the third incarnation of musician Mean Tweets from the Kimmel Show. My favorite digs were on Ed Sheeran, Common and of course the creative Mumford jab in the end was worthy of mentioning...#MeanTweets

Videos of the Week January 29th

Solid mix of music and sheer entertainment value in this week's top five. Led by an out of this world collaboration between Jimmy Fallon, Sia, The Roots and...Natalie Portman? Random doesn't begin to explain that collection of talent on one stage, but it came together quite well on the Mardi Gras classic Iko Iko. If that's not random enough for you, how about some Obama clips dubbed together to form Justin Bieber's I'm Sorry? I'm not sure it was as good as Thriller or Hotline Bling, but baracksdubs takes attention to detail to another level.

In the world of music, there was high profile EDM collabo, a captivating Wiz Khalifa freestyle and a debut single from Baauer. You might recognize The Right Song from a previously posted song by Oliver and Tiesto (Wombass), but this time Natalie La Rose blesses the bouncy beat with vocals. It's a rare occasion where I think the instrumental wins over the vocal version. It was a tumultuous week for Wiz Khalifa, but that didn't prevent him from showing off his ability to twist everyone's favorite Adele track into a weed anthem. Last but not least was the premiere of Baauer's new single Day Ones. Truth be told it deserved it's own post, but you can bank on plenty more releases from his upcoming album Aa to surface on this portion of the internet...#DayOnes

Alison Wonderland Transform's Bieber's What Do You Mean

It appears that A Wonder DJ is at it once again. I know, I know, more Bieber, but take a deep breath and give this one a chance because she did a number on the original. Picture a more chopped up, slightly faster version of the original with a show stopping drop. It a cool use of tempo, speeding it's way to the top, giving way to a bass heavy, bangin' slow drop. The use of her own complimentary vocals and samples from the original track make for a cool back and forth as the track draws to a close. It's a creative mix and a rare electronic track that excels in it's ability to transform the original into something completely different. Tip of the cap, I really enjoyed this one...#WhatDoYouMean

Videos of the Week November 20th

It's getting hard nowadays to find videos that don't involve Justin Bieber. Here I was thinking that Bieber's rendition of Sorry on Fallon was the only sighting in the this weeks top five, but then I watched the Zoolander 2 trailer that he found a way into. While the original Zoolander is considered by many as a modern day classic, I can't claim fanboy status on it. I will say that there aren't as many slapstick comedies nowadays, so I'm giving it a 40% chance of freshness on Rotten Tomatoes.

In non-Bieber related news, Krewella gave us a peek behind the curtain on their golf cart ride turned in-depth interview. They've caught a lot of bad publicity from their group breakup and found their way in the crosshairs of deadmau5 (like many others), but they still find a way to come off as genuine. Simply put, they make fun music and pour energy into their music, which is something that's really easy to get behind.

In other EDM news, Madeon's new video for Nonsense dropped this week. I'm always amazed by the futuristic aesthetic he injects into his videos. Last, but definitely not least, is Logic on the mic for seven straight minutes. Beat after beat, he stays in zone and shows exactly why he's one of the top lyricists in the game...#Logic301

"Am I in Love with You? Or am I in Love with the Feeling?"

Just when you thought this whole Bieber/Skrillex thing was going to be a momentary flash in the pan, here's another log to throw on the fire to keep it roasting for a few months more. Lately I've been trying to resist Bieber coming back into my musical life, but Skrillex is doing everything in his power to break down the preconceived notions and close mindedness. It's one of those battles where you want to separate the persona from the artist because he's capable of making great music, but there's something you just don't like about him.

In the case of Bieber, I literally can't continue hating because the music he's releasing of late is unquestionably stellar. His latest EDM flavored releases, starting with Where Are U Now, are all really catchy blends of the best that R&B, Pop and electronic music have to offer. His latest one, The Feeling, excels in it's emotion soaked angst. Led by a flawless hook from Halsey and a heavy, but somber beat from Skrillex, Bieber is able to chip in a few well executed verses to round out the track. It really reminds me of the golden age of R&B in the 90s when artists were able to tear at your strings with heart wrenching slow jams. In just two days, JB's new album Purpose is going to hit iTunes and my guess is it's going to be one of the rare albums the eventually reach platinum status. Time will tell, but there are at least five singles I've already given the thumbs up to on the 19 song track list, so let's just say he's off to a promising start...#Purpose

Biebex Are Back at it Again With I'll Show You

At times over the past decade it's been hard to get behind Justin Bieber. In a lot of ways, he's fulfilled the child star prophecy in becoming that petulant, privileged, entitled young adult that we've all seen so many times before in music and television. All that being said, he's never lost the talent that caused Usher to sign him on the spot when he was just a young kid trying to make it big. Back in 2009, I will cop to very vocally backing Bieber as the next big thing when he dropped his first single One Time. Unfortunately, the past six years between now and then have resulted in more trips to the police station then posts on this blog.

BUT...time can prove to be a powerful thing when it comes to second chances. Three Skrillex produced singles, I'm back on board the Bieber bus. The most interesting part about it all is that the three singles haven't been overly electronic. If anything, I've gained more respect for the versatility of Skrillex as a producer. That's not selling Bieber short either, his new R&B flavored I'll Show You gets back to what made him a star years ago. The whiny beat, chill synths and ever-so-emotional vocal delivery is why this one will continue to have success and be one of the most remixed tracks over the next few months...#IllShowYou

Videos of the Week October 30

If you're looking for interesting and novel, this week is going to be right up your alley. Led by the broken leg, turn doggy-voyeur video from The Chainsmokers, this week was marked by stuff you just don't usually see. The dog/human fist bump at the 1:03 mark is pretty much all you need to see to understand the personalities of Alex and Drew. If gender roles and sexuality are more your flavor, then you'll find Tosh.0's parody of Selena Gomez's Good For You video an interesting watch. Not sure if Carrot Top was needed to drive his point home, but it is interesting that we find women gyrating in no clothes interesting, yet Tosh looks pretty absurd.

Last week if you would have told me that there would be a video with Skrillex playing acoustic guitar while Bieber sings vocals in this week's top five, I would have laughed in your face. Touche Biebs, touche! If Terry Crews going ham on stage dancing with Kendrick Lamar is more your pace, then fast forward to the three minute mark of the These Walls video. That video has enough content in it for a short movie, so make sure the popcorn is ready before you hit play. And last, but definitely not least, there was a used car dealer in Wichita, Kansas that officially put an end to all this Nae Nae dance business. You know a dance move has jumped the shark when an old white dude in the middle of Kansas starts mixing your dance move with the Stanky Legg in an attempt to sell cars...#WhipDance

Videos of the Week October 23rd

This week's top five was centered around actual music videos for change. Leading the way was a lot of music touched by Skrillex. His new one with Dillon Francis was as jittery and trappy as you'd expect from the duo. In somewhat of a surprise, he also came to the rescue of Justin Bieber by setting the tone on Sorry. Man, you better get used to hearing that track because it's going to be lighting up top 40 radio for the foreseeable future.

For you Hip Hop heads out there, Logic is still dropping weekly videos to cover his recent hits. The kid can spit, there's no getting around that. If you're up for a little nostalgia, then you'll appreciate Hov bringing back a classic on Kimmel this week. Sure the track isn't the same without Alicia's vocals live, but Jiggaman has enough stage presence to carry a concert. And last, but certainly not least, the most meemed video of the past week, Drake's video for Hotline Bling. If you're one of those who love to poke fun at his expressive expressions, this one made your entire year...#HotlineBling

Videos of the Week September 25th

A whole lot of randomness this week with a few late night highlights leading the way. First let me say thank you to Radio 1 for continuing to surprise us with interesting cover versions of tracks. First it was Sam Smith and Disclosure covering Drake, not Chvrches covering Bieber. Any time songs are able to be reimagined in a live setting by talented people, we all win. Speaking of we all win, how bout Bernie Sanders' prospects of being elected. We all wish he were getting more press, so I would have been remiss if I hadn't included Colbert's promo for his show this week (#FeelTheBern).

In other news, I appreciated the vibrant augmented reality style of Tiesto and Don Diablo's new video for Chemicals. I'm having a really hard time moving on from the track, which isn't a bad thing. Also, did anyone get a bit nostalgic with the Keenan and Kel Good Burger throwback skit? Yea, it was pretty stupid humor at the time, but it succeeded in making me reminisce. And last, but definitely not least, who else is pumped for the Angry Birds movie? As a recovered Angry Birds perfectionist, I'll admit to being skeptical of it being able to be translated into a movie. Then I noticed Danny McBride, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader and Key were all voices in the movie and excitement prevailed. Let's just hope the script lives up to the hype...#AngryBirdsMovie

Videos of the Week September 4th

R&B is the recurring theme sprinkled throughout this week's top 5. Led by Majid Jordan and Drake's sultry duet My Love and Bieb's new one for What Do You Mean?, there was plenty of caressing and harmony at the top. If you were like many people and jumped on the T-Pain can't sing bandwagon, that wagon is starting to look more and more empty nowadays. Yes, Teddy Pain used the autotune to death, but that doesn't mean he isn't a talented vocalist. Feel free and watch his inspiring rendition of the national anthem if you don't know what I'm talking about.

In non-R&B news, the trailer for Concussion with Will Smith looks like an interesting upcoming film. Yes, it's a bummer that we learned how a lot of the plot was "shaped to the NFL's liking" thanks to the hacked Sony emails, but hopefully it will help continue to evolve the discussion around head injuries, especially in sports. Rounding out this week's top 5 is yet another trailer for an upcoming festival. TomorrowWorld's fairytale magic will be coming to Hotlanta later this month and you better believe the folks at GWDJ are more than a little excited about it...#TomorrowWorld

Skrillex Guides Bieber Toward Trop House?

If there was ever a track that had infinite storylines, it would be Justin Bieber's new single below. Let's see...where do we start, the production by Skrillex is noteworthy because he's single-handedly provided Bieber a golden pathway toward EDM with Where Are U Now? and now What Do You Mean?. As a side note, this trending toward Trop House movement that Skrillex has been drifting toward of late is a nice revelation. I could have gone through a list of 30 DJs who could have produced the song below and Skrillex probably wouldn't have been on that list. That alone is a pretty awesome development.

I'm fascinated that Bieber, who seems to be nearly universally disliked for his entitled-ness, is starting to carve a different niche for himself and somehow finding a way to become more likable. I don't know how in the hell he found a way to collaborate with the widely respected Diplo and Skrillex, but whatever happened worked well enough the first time that it happened again. And I'll admit, I do like the track below even though my gut is still telling me I shouldn't support the Biebs. I'd liken it to your best friend becoming friends with a complete a-hole. You're gonna support your best friend no matter what, but this new friend he made is not someone you want to associate with. What do you do in the long run? Time will tell, but call me befuddled, flabergasted and just generally perturbed because I feel like I just tasted something I'm allergic to and actually liked it...#WhatDoYouMean

Videos of the Week July 2nd

I'm going to refer to this week as music sandwich week. It's a music sandwich because there's a whole lot of high quality music making up the middle of this post. There's a new videos from K Dot, Disclosure and even a tasteful video from Jack Ü with the Biebs. Hard to pick a favorite between the three, but I'm partial to Kendrick's Bay Area flavored video for Alright that has an added two minute and 30 second intro and minute long outro.

The most novel video by far goes to the public access TV debut of Stephen Colbert. It's a full 41 minutes with some random guests, one of which is Eminem who stops by to sing along on a few Bob Seger favorites. Random really doesn't do it justice, all I know is I would have been a mix of confused and strangely entertained if I lived in Monroe, Michigan and saw this come on. Finishing out the week on an even lighter note is Jimmy Fallon and Mark Wahlberg's entertaining game of Headshots. Those darts were no joke, I wouldn't have blamed either of them for flinching...#Headshots

Jack Ü Let Loose Debut Album After 24 DJ Set

Fresh off a 24 hour marathon DJ set, Skrillex and Diplo finally let loose their Jack U debut album. I'll be the first to admit that a Justin Bieber collaboration wasn't something I saw coming, but all things considered, Where Are U Now is pretty fresh. Thanks in large part to the tribal samples that Diplo threw in the mix, the beat sounds like deep house went to the jungle. Many times big time duos with differing styles don't mesh, but whenever Diplo and Skrillex get together it's always something new and unique. I haven't gotten a chance to check out the entire album yet, but the track below was another positive step toward something special...#JackU
