"Let Me Hit You With That Pep Rally"

As tempting as it was to re-post Super Bowl commercials, the national anthem or even the halftime show, I'm going to operate under the assumption that you probably saw the majority of it. What I'm going to highlight tonight was a somewhat unique release of a new single via Super Bowl commercial. Can't say I've seen that before, but we can thank Amazon and Missy Elliot's partnership for breaking new ice...
As as side note, it's pretty cool that Amazon Echo is becoming a new platform to develop on. Not sure Uber would be one of the top ways I'd utilize it, but Spotify integration looks pretty cool.

As far as the new Missy single goes, it's just as turnt up as her previous release WTF (Where You From). It doesn't have quite the catchy lyrics, but the steady 808 thump is impossible to ignore. The marching band vibe adds to the dance worthiness too, giving Pep Rally plenty of party starter appeal. At the very least, it's great to hear an artist from my upbringing come back to the game like she never left. Hoping this streak of great music continues on the way toward a new album at some point...#PepRally

Videos of the Week February 5th

Sticking with a NFL theme this week seeing that the Super Bowl is this weekend. Although it was tempting, I resisted posting a few of the entertaining commercials before they air on Sunday. It truly wouldn't be the Super Bowl without crazy, ridiculous ads, so we'll leave those cats inside the box.

First, the novelty. The 2016 Bad Lip Reading video Part 1 might be one of the more entertaining videos I post all year. They never disappoint, year after year. Similarly, Fallon did an excellent job of roasting some of the players who will be taking part in the big game this weekend. On the music front, The Chainsmokers continued their EDM conquest on Fallon by performing their now #1 iTunes dance single Roses. Coldplay also released a new video with Beyonce's help, but I was a little confused about the lyrical content being about drunk and high...on life? Definitely a celebratory video and much more feel good than I imagined. To end the week, how about some dap for Ohene Savant. There are plenty of people who can either play a live instrument, or produce music or even rap. But can any of them do all of them with a degree of skill? Needless to say, he's much more the exception to the rule, so give him a look and don't be afraid to be amazed like I was...#GeniusLevel

Videos of the Week January 31st

Thanks to some stellar YouTube shares I was sent this week by friends or more specifically GWDJ crew members holding the W in this photo, I'm pretty excited about the spread this week. If you want the heads up some breakout artists for 2014, you need to watch the brief clips of BBC's Longlist (assist to Mikey Mike). All I can say is, Sam Smith and BANKS should be on everyone radar, list, post-it, you name it, they should be on it.

If you're looking for novel, look no further than the terrific rendition of Avicii's Wake Me Up by the Red Hot Chili Pipers. In my eyes bagpipes > synthesizers. You might not have heard that Cudi is starring in the new Need For Speed movie. With a new album on the way in February, he's got a lot of things going for him now. Oh yea, Keys N Krates are still awesome and the cavalcade of Super Bowl ads are already starting to emerge. Doesn't get much cuter than what Budweiser did...#XLVIII

Videos of the Weeks February 1st

It's that time folks, the one week of the year where the world opens up their mind to television commericals. Knowing that, it's no surprise a lot of companies are trying to beat people to the punch by doing teasers or trailers to their Super Bowl ads. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to the @SamsungMobileUS El Plato Supreme commercial. Long story short, they're "doing a commercial for the Big Plate featuring the San Francisco 50-1ers and the Baltimore Black Birds."

Along the same lines I appreciated @JerryRice's hint of comedy with the @VanHeusen Style in Training commercial with @funnyordie. I decided to go pop on the music videos this week, but @CalvinHarris's live set at the X-games was definitely worth skimming through. On a more serious note, my thoughts and prayers go out to Caleb Moore's family for his tragic death following the snowmobile accident during an X-Games event...#RIP

Madonna and LMFAO Party Rock the Super Bowl

Going into last night's Super Bowl, I had very low expectations for the event and game as a whole. So I did what any other American would do and gamble to make it interesting. I had posted a couple times this past week how much I really wished both teams could lose because Giants rank up there with world's most annoying fan base and The Pats...let's just say they're always favored so what's the point of cheering for them unless you're from Boston? Needless to say I was mostly paying attention to watch the entertaining, buzz-generating commercials while simultaneously following up on the mostly random single dollar wagers I had made on various *mostly random* events like who wins the coin toss, who gets the first sack, how many field goals total, how many beer commercials, etc. Despite not winning one random bet the whole night (hard to do) and witnessing an extremely boring game (serious lack of exciting plays), I'd say the halftime show was a big bright spot.

Put it this way, when you follow the Black Eyed Peas from last year, it can be nothing but better. Still, Madonna wasn't all that enticing of a draw to me and I figured it would be mostly oldies that would keep the 30 and older crowd happy and give women a decent reason to pay attention while all the men completely disregarded the show. Before I comment, if you haven't watched the twelve minute and change halftime show, please feel free to press play below. I waded through countless terrible quality videos to find the decent one below, so feel free to appreciate if you'd like...

Yep, I didn't see all those cameos coming out of left field and I sure as hell didn't think she'd mix in much more than the oldies. I couldn't have been more wrong as @nickyminaj, @_m_i_a_, @ceelogreen and @lmfao joined her on stage for what ended up being a really solid, high energy halftime show. I'm not one to give effusive praise to a performance that I didn't think was going to be good from the start, but this would be the exception to the rule.

Even better, a remix of Madonna's lead single off her new album MDNA (due out March 26th) seemed to have surfaced in the past day, piggy backing the hype surrounding their performance last night. Hey might as well get it while the gettin' is good right? To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the middle school cheerleader anthem sounding original version of Give Me All Your Lovin', but I won't hesitate to rock out to the remix. Don't be shy with it shake your junk to it like the naked M&M last night...#BestCommercial

Green Bay's Own Green & Yellow...Weezy F Style

Just when you thought the Packers were uncooler than the Steelers because they don't have a cool new Hip Hop anthem to compete with Black and Yellow, in comes @liltunechi to save the day. Armed with jabs at specific Steelers players like @ike_swagginu and @tpolamalu to go with some cheesy, but at times creative one liners like "Uhh, big Gs on the helmet, Steel Curtain? What is that, velvet?". Check the lyrics below...
"Yeah, uh-huh, you know what it is
I’m a cheesehead, y’all n-ggas Cheez Whiz
Pittsburgh Steelers, thats nothin’
That Super Bowl ring, thats stuntin’

Pull up in your town, when you see me you know everything
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
I put it down, representin’ for my team
I’m in Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

Money green, yellow broad
Aaron Rodgers, MVP award
This is Green Bay, bitch we go hard
This is Packer Country, where ya green card?
Terrible towels, that shit’s borin’
We got the ball, you know we scorin’
Yeah, and thats how we rockin’ heavy metal
I’m up in this bitch wit’ more Bloods than a blood vessel
Pitt goin’ down, say hello to the devil
Just beat the Bears, now we got the Steelers on the schedule
Yeah, no love for ‘em boy, break ya hearts
We gon’ toast these n-ggas, pop tarts

Yeah, uh-huh, you know what it is
I’m a cheesehead, y’all n-ggas Cheez Whiz
Pittsburgh Steelers, thats nothin’
That Super Bowl ring, thats stuntin’

Pull up in your town, when you see me you know everything
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

I put it down, representin’ for my team
I’m in Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

Got a call from my homie, this just in
The Packers in the Super Bowl and they better win
They call him Big Ben, but he weak though
We in Dallas, but we Lambeau Leap hoe
Long hair, don’t care, Clay Matthews
We shittin’ on these fools, no bathroom
Yeah, got a pocket full of big faces
Throw it up, touchdown on Ike Taylor

Yeah, uh-huh, you know what it is
I’m a cheesehead, y’all n****s Cheez Whiz
Pittsburgh Steelers, thats nothin’
That Super Bowl ring, thats stuntin’

Pull up in your town, when you see me you know everything
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

I put it down, representin’ for my team
I’m in Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow

Uhh, big Gs on the helmet
Steel Curtain? What is that, velvet?
And if we win, I’mma throw a Super Bowl party
And blow a cigar like Vince Lombardi
I’m in Wisconsin, smoking Amsterdam
Yeah I’m from New Orleans, but I been a Packers fan
We knocked the Eagles and the Falcons and the Bears off
Now we ’bout to cut Troy Polamalu hair off

Yeah, uh-huh, you know what it is
I’m a cheesehead, y’all n-ggas Cheez Whiz (Go Pack Go)
Pittsburgh Steelers, thats nothin’
That Super Bowl ring, thats stuntin’

Pull up in your town, when you see me you know everything
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

I put it down, representin’ for my team
I’m in Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow
Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

Uh, go Pack go!
Uh, go Pack go!
Uh, we yellin’ go Pack go!
Yeah, like I said, this ain’t a diss song
I just love my team, that’s the team with them big Gs on the helmet
You know what it is, Oh yeah, Young Mulah baby"
Adding to the pageantry of it all was his appearance of ESPN's First Take yesterday, when he was grilled about why he's a Packers fan and whether or not it was a diss track.

It'll be fun to see if Wiz and Snoop take up Weezy on his offer to have the loser cut off their hair. First it was Polamalu, then the Claymaker, now even the celebs are getting in on the hair mania. Another noteworthy jab was @realskipbayless's shot at @realWizKhalifa, saying he's not in the same league as Lil Wayne. While that's mostly true because Weezy F has years of longevity to back it up, saying Wiz is the hottest rapper out right now is not a stretch at all. Still, it'd be stupid to get put off by the opinion of someone who knows absolutely nothing about Hip Hop.

No cheerleaders at the game, who cares, at least we have two noteworthy Hip Hop team anthems to generate some buzz. Regardless of the outcome, Hip Hop has taken one more step closer to being accepted by the mainstream. Still are years away from any Hip Hop act being the Halftime show....#Someday...
