"I Only Came For the Cake"

Catchy melody over a snappy beat, rinse, and repeat. That is Flo Rida's discography in a nutshell. Hate on it all you want for being formulaic, you can bet your ass you'll be singing the "cake, cake, cake, cake" sample long after first listen. Featuring a vocal assist from 99 Percent, Cake is one of fifteen track on the recently released This Is a Challenge compilation. Grouped with other dance favorites like Juju on the Beat, Wobble, and Cupid Shuffle, the album seems like a re-branded "NOW That's What I Call Music" album. Are those still a thing by the way? Whatever the case, you're not going to be surprised by Cake or anything on the aforementioned compilation, but you can bet where there's a time and place for a whole disc of cliche crowd favorites...#Cake

Videos of the Week May 6th

Very entertaining week for videos with everyone's favorite staged, viral response to Beyonce's Lemonade video. Funny or Die is usually on point, but they brought their A game and flipped an hour long response quickly. When it came to music, Flo Rida/Jason Derulo and The Chainsmokers chipped in new visuals for their recent singles. I hate to call Hello Friday a typical Hip Hop video, but let's call a spade a spade. As far as Don't Let Me Down is concerned, the plot is a bit perplexing. You've got a group of women dancing and pouring their heart out vocally and Alex and Drew are...bouncing in '64 like they're riding down Crenshaw? Other than the play on words on not letting them down from the bouncing, not sure what they were going with theme wise.

In non-music news, Drake did an hour long piece with Zane Lowe following the release of Views. Jury is still out on the album for me, but overall I'm feeling the more low key, back to more of an R&B/Hip Hop mix vibe. And last but not least, we've got a brand new game on Fallon. It's called Frozen Blackjack and Fallon took on Captain America in the game. Let's just say, it was entertaining...#FrozenBlackjack

"Hello, Friday, I've Been Waiting For You For a Long Time"

It seems a little weird posting a track called Hello Friday on a Saturday, but when two Hip Pop legends get together on a new single, date matters less. The track more of a mid-tempo sing along, but the snappy beat and vocals from Jason Derulo mesh well together. The track isn't even close to my favorite track from either Flo Rida or Jason Derulo, but as a novelty collaboration with some top 40 appeal, I can get on board with it. The single will eventually be a part of Flo's long awaited 5th studio album, The Perfect 10. Seeing that he's been opting to release mini-EPs rather than full albums while hyping the release of a length album for over two years, it sounds like there will be a whole lot of new music coming from the 305 this year. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on me liking his next single better than this one...#HelloFriday

Jeremih & Flo Rida Bring Heat on "Tonight Belongs to U"

The trend of R&B artists dipping in the EDM pool is getting to be a real thing. Sure we've heard plenty of John Legend and Usher examples, but even the likes of Meajor and now Jeremih are utilizing synths as the lead blocker for their new singles. While I'd still call Jeremih's new one below with Flo Rida an R&B track, the electronic influences are hard to ignore...

As I was listening to Tonight Belongs to U! I found myself wondering when Flo Rida was going to hop on the mix and ignite the tempo. Sure as hell, around the 2:25 mark, Flo came through with his characteristically spitfire delivery. All in all it's a fun track and you can cop it when it hits iTunes in a few hours. Be on the look out for Jeremih's upcoming album Late Nights, which is scheduled to hit iTunes in about a week...#LateNights

"Welcome to My House, Play That Music Too Loud"

When it comes to pop music success, South Florida is the epicenter of consistency. I'd give a slight nod to Pitbull, but Flo Rida has also been the model of consistency over the past decade. Very few singles that they have performed have flopped and that includes Flo's new one My House. The track bears the same title as the seven song EP he's releasing in early April. It's not exactly a typical dance floor anthem, but it has a throwback, sing-along vibe to it. Hate him or love him you, but you can't deny that he's successfully paved his own unique path by usinq Hip Hop to achieve Top 40 success...#MyHouse

"It's Not Hard to See, the Girl is Mine"

Whoa whoa whoa, wait a minute, hol up! When did Flo Rida start dabbling in deep house grooves? Between he and Pitbull, I never know what to expect beyond delivering a beat that's going to make me want to dance. It just so happens that Flo's latest dance escapade sampled everyone's favorite duet back in 1998 between Brandy and Monica. Check the original video for reference...

There's a simplicity in the instrumental of Girl's Mine that's downright addicting. Similar to trance, the rhythms are so bouncy and delicious that you don't even pay attention to the lyrics. Sure the sample is a bit forced, but who cares, I just want to dance to this song. Maybe I'm a sucker for uptempo pop, but after a drink or two at the club you'd be shopping your new dance move to this beat...#DontLie

Update: Ah, so you know that initial surprised reaction about Flo Rida going all deep house? Yea, that might have been too good to be true. This isn't the first or last time Flo may have overstepped his bounds by riding the momentum of a hot new dance track. Below you can check out the original version of The Girl is Mine by 99 Souls. Gotta give credit where credit is due because there isn't much original about Flo Rida's version when you compare it to the original.

Videos of the Week December 26th

Simply put, there were way too many 2014 year in review and holiday videos this week that is was impossible to whittle down videos of the week to a top 5. So as a belated Christmas gift, I'm delivering a top 10 this week as a special year end gift. In the post you'll see the past year in search, viral videos, extreme videos and even an Orange is the New Black version of the 12 days of Christmas.

Beyond the year end videos, there's a Coachella recap, a new full length trailer for the upcoming entourage movie and a Dr. Evil cameo on SNL. On a serious note, I appreciated how well the SNL writers pulled off the critique of The Interview vs North Korea situation. The whole controversy brought about a slew of firsts in both hacking and pop culture bleeding into politics, but Dr. Evil made a lot of great points about just how absurd the whole thing was on a lot of fronts. In case you needed an actual music video fix, the Dade County artists (Pitbull & Flo Rida) had your back with new videos for Time of Our Lives and GDFR. Hope everyone had a great holiday season and is looking forward to New Years as much as I am...#2014YearinReview

A Laser Light Show With Jump Smoke

Lately, the Jump Smokers have been churning out remixes like hotcakes. The latest one on their list is Flo Rida's recent single Laser Light Show. If you're like me, you have a well established appreciation for Flo Rida's ability to develop hits in his sleep. With that being said, sometimes its a treat to her a fresh take on his usual sound. I'd say the Jump Smokers did just that by injecting in some jumpy, loud synths to a track that sounded more top 40 than club. While the radio listening crowd might think the remix is too much, DJs like me appreciate the gift below because of how well it'll play when the lights go down and the colorful lights take over...#LaserLightShow

Feelin' Good is How Flo Rida Feels

Somehow, some way, Flo Rida keeps finding ways to release music that I just can't help but post. True, the formula for his success hasn't changed much at all throughout the years, but his uptempo delivery and high quality beats he's able to rap over have been the model of consistency. On his newest effort, DJ Frank-E cooked up a dope beat that samples one of the most heavily sampled tracks in Hip Hop, Nina Simone's Feelin' Good. Check the original below for a refresh...

How I Feel is the third single (Tell Me When You're Ready, Can't Believe It) to come off Flo's upcoming album, The Perfect 10. Most artists would feel blessed to have three total singles on an album, but most artists are not Flo Rida. In other words, Perfect 10 is shaping up to be pretty awesome and headed toward front to back greatness...#HowIFeel

Videos of the Week September 27th

Admittedly, this week was a little heavy on Hip Hop, but that's not away a bad thing. Despite the fact that Drake went on just about every major media outlet, I refrained from posting more than one video of his. I know, I'm proud of myself too. I thought his mini-skit/video for Hold on We're Going Home was well done, though. Didn't see the track evoking a ransom situation with a whole lotta guns and stuff. SPOILER ALERT: Drake ends up saving the day and getting the girl.

Aside from that I got some pop/EDM, R&B and plenty of a$$ thanks to Wale's Clappers video. Dare I say take notes Miley? Cause the Twerk Team is in fully effect...#QueensOfTwerk

"Damn That White Girl Got Some Ass"

Seeing that both Pitbull and Flo Rida make the same tempo music and steady rep Miami to the fullest, it make you wonder why they don't collaborate more often. That's my general reaction to the song below, which is more or less and ode to all the white girls in the world who have enough booty to fill out a g-string. I dunno about you, but I really appreciated the cover art above that perfectly captured the essence of the track in the form of a Boy Scout badge. Even better, Flo leaked a preview of the video that is supposed to hit the internet on Tuesay...
Couldn't find much information regarding production on the track or the album name for Flo's 5th studio album. What I can tell you is that this will probably inspire quite a few Caucasian women to shake the modest thang that they're momma gave them in an attempt to fit in with black women who may have a little more in the trunk than they do. Here's to hoping that them white girls don't use this track as blind confidence to show out on the dance floor. With respect comes responsibility, make us all proud white girls...#BubbleYumBum

Videos of the Week July 12th

Hip Hop dominated this week's videos with Flo Rida and B.O.B. releasing visuals for their new singles. The more I listen to Bobby Ray's Headband, the more the whistling embeds itself into my brain. Dap is in order for the up and coming DJ Mustard for cookin' up that beat.

In other news, I'm putting it on my bucket list to attend Electric Zoo in NYC at some point. All you really need to know is Avicii is headlining with Benni Benassi and Knife Party. Oh and if you don't get pumped up hearing John Harrison's monologue from Star Trek: Into The Darkness over Derrick Rose highlights, then something is wrong with you...#Vengeance

"Tattoo Angels, Ain't Gotta Worry About a Thing"

I've always been a sucker for Flo Rida's consistently upbeat and catchy Pop-Hop singles. As much as I'm predisposed to be critical of any sort of lyrically simple Hip Hop music, I can't hate on Flo Rida one bit because he has a distinct sound that is so uplifting it's beyond reproach.

Case in point his lead single below off his upcoming yet-to-be-titled album Tell Me When You Ready. Call him a one trick pony if you want, but he does that one trick better than anyone in the game and he's got the commas in his bank account to prove it. I haven't been bashful in bashing Future, but I don't mind his contribution to the hook because it fits well with the sound of the track. Even more credit is due to Flo because he always manages to churn out tracks that have his sound despite having different producers laying down his beats. Shout out to Detail for the strip club worthy, booty shake inducing beat...#TellMeWhenYouReady

"Come on Baby Let the Good Times Roll"

Another day another upbeat club-worthy single from @official_flo. With his new Wild Ones album set to drop on July 3rd, he's doing just about everything he can to stock iTunes with enough incentives to cop his new album.

This time around he sampled an oldie from the 1950s from "The Texas Cannonball" Freddie King with Let the Good Times Roll. Interestingly enough, the beat was cooked up by French duo @soFLYandNius and Swedish DJ @Axwell. It follows the tried and true formula of fast paced raps and pop club beat. If it's broke why fix it?...even though it may be getting a little old

The best part about this track is the new video for the single that features YouTube sensation @KeithApicary. His real name is @NathanBarnatt and he is most well known for his crazy public dancing, but he also has a new Adult Swim show in the making. If you haven't heard of him, you'll understand his appeal after watching him in the video below...

Doesn't get much better than an awkward balding white guy who dresses like Napolean Dynamite dancing wildly to Hip Hop. All joking aside, even though Flo's style may be getting a little played out, the sample is addicting and will find it's way into your cerebellum somehow...#AudibleCrack

"Hey Jasmin Shake What Ya Momma Gave"

There are some things I will never understand like why we don't find a way to use farts for energy? Yea, that's right continuous farting for six years and nine months would equal the same amount of energy given off by an atomic bomb. How about the fact that British people are drunk in about 76% of their Facebook photos? Pretty crazy right?

Somewhere in between those two amazing facts lies @official_flo's new track Hey Jasmine with @davidguetta. Why is it amazing you ask? Because it's not even going to make the cut for his new album Wild Ones that came out last week. This one ranks up there with @bobatl's version of Not Lost that still has yet to make the cut as a album bonus track or iTunes single. I have a feeling Flo will find a way to get this one on iTunes as some people because he went as far as creating a video for the song despite not releasing it.

If you're not sure what Miami club life entails, the video for this track should give you enough of an idea. It just might be the sweat capitol of the club world, but there's something innately hot about that. #AyePapi
