2013 - The Year Avicii Took Over

As 2013 comes to a close, I found myself wanting to post the perfect song that would encapsulate the year as a whole. While it's by no means perfect, I heard EDX's mix of Avicii's Wake Me Up yesterday on XM's BPM and thought it put a nice bow on the year as a whole. Not only did Avicii take the US by storm in 2013 with his classic album True, he flipped the script on my opinion of country/bluegrass. Between Hey Brother and Florida Georgia Line's Cruise, the whole country/bluegrass sound morphed into something that was much more accessible. After twenty plus years of lacking appreciation for the genre, those two songs have caused me to back off a bit on the hate and re-evaluate my position. That's my biggest musical takeaway from 2013 in a nutshell. Hopefully 2014 will bring with it just as many surprises and delights as the past 365 have brought. Have a safe night y'all...#NYE
