Stat Quo - Ridin' (prod by Focus)

This new heat rock by Stat Quo comes from his new Mixtape, Stat Quo Presents 2010: The Mixtape, continuing a developing trend of artists releasing a seriously hyped Mixtape about a month before releasing a studio album. FYI his new album Statlanta is due out June 22nd and will feature a couple guest spots from the likes of The Game, Lauryn Hill and production from the Good Doctor (Dre).

As great as the verses are, the producer of the track, Focus deserves some major daps & lbs for more or less chopping up Dr. Dre's Still Dre beat into a slightly different, but fresh-in-it's-own-way beat. Yea I know what you're thinking, "I coulda cut that beat up and it would still sound awesome", but in between the well known piano samples he does switch the tempo on the beat making it his own...sorta. Anyways, Focus is signed to Aftermath Records and he just released his own (extremely well put together) solo album titled The Avant Guard Project. As a sample, check out his first single off the album titled Recession feat Phonte - Credit 2dopeboyz.

Pretty cool how most producers nowadays have their own signature sample they throw into each beat to get their own name out, like JR Rotem's JJJJR and The Runners well known "Aaahhh" at the beginning of their beats. Focus's tag line may be just as cool with his robotic "Sound without focus...is just noise". Below is an 8 minute studio session showing how Focus puts together every single aspect of the beat from the guitars to the piano to percussion on the MPC...one of the cooler studio videos I've seen from a producer.

Aside from the beat to Ridin', which is sick, but not completely his, my favorite track he ever produced was a Bishop Lamont track in '09 titled exclusive. The beat clap and haunting undertones give this beat an edge that not many others can compete with. Give it a quick listen...

Bishop Lamont feat Marsha Ambrosius - Exclusive (I Got It) (prod by Focus) Great Beat!!!

Focus aside, Stat Quo will be featured on at least one or two Detox tracks...yea you know that mythical album that has more rumors attached to it than the Kardashians? Hopefully Statlanta will have at least a couple of high caliber, bangin' tracks like the one below...check it

Stat Quo - Ridin' (prod by Focus) HOTTT!!!
