"If I Could Gift-Wrap the Globe, I Would Give You the World"

I've been sittin' on this one for a couple mins now, but I always find myself adding it to the daily On-the-Go playlists, so I'd be remiss if I didn't eventually share some opinion on it. Anybody else make daily On-the-Go playlists like I do...like to listen to while you shower? I'd suggest it for those of you knee deep in Hip Hop who wishes they could buy more time in the day. Anways, no word yet, but my bet is the track below is going to be a cut off his debut album Cole World due out sometime in 2010.

Pretty cool to see J. Cole also do the production on this, showing how willing he is to shape his own sound and style. A style I'd characterized as a true lyricist, relying more on wordplay and storytelling, rather than a catchy hook and attention grabbing beat. To me @jcolenc sounds at home on simple beats like the one on Premeditated Murder. He's able to weave through the methodic beat with creative wordplay like:
"Now the crib got much rooms -Portobello
She drop it low and then she bust moves for the fellow
I sit yo ass down like you was playin’ a cello"

"Knew I would kill the game, premeditated murder
So if it comes down, may the best man win
No sweat like a head band"

"My own worst enemy so f it either way I can’t lose"
If Cole sticks to this formula where he spits high quality verses over low key beats like this one, he may very well carve himself a niche in Hip Hop that has been left vacant ever since the days of hardcore lyricists like all members of Wu Tang and Nas. If you want a live look at him goin' in on a freestyle check the video below:

Lot's more to expect from Cole on 2010, you better believe Jiggaman isn't gonna let his Roc Nation artist produce anything short of a platinum debut...
