Throwback Thursday: Chris Young - Bottles of Fiji Water and A Beautiful Girl

It's rare (for me at least) to still like a song years later and consider it Classic material. That's why it wasn't the norm when I anointed Cudi's latest album classic after a month of listening to it because as much as I rave daily about tracks that I rate and post, they usually find their way off my iPod in less than a month. I've come to terms with my musical promiscuity and have learned to see it as more of a gift than a curse because it allows me to be passionate enough about songs to encourage others to listen to them. You, the one reading this, get to experience what's new and will soon be played in clubs and raved about by your friends and I will continue to like tracks that nobody has heard of...yet. It's a vicious cycle that results in you always knowing what's coming out before your friends do and me being a step ahead of that, so when you start to really enjoy a song, I'm already on to the next one.

Now that we're clear on that, I'm going to share one of my favorite tracks that I consider classic and will never get sick of no matter how many times I hear it. Call it an introduction to my new weekly Throwback Thursday post where I'll post a track I personally enjoy that's over a year old. The track is by one of my favorite artists that has yet to gain the critical acclaim he deserves, Chris Young.  Coming out of the streets of sunny San Diego, California, he got his first break when he opened for Shwayze Cisco Adler. Immediately after hearing Chris's demo, Cisco let Chris Young tour with him, Shwayze, Tabi Bonney, Mickey Avalon around the country.
His break happened in 2008, but it wasn't until 2009 when he released his mixtape Mood Swing EP, that people started noticing his talent.

Released almost exactly a year ago in April 2009, the mixtape featured a song titled Bottles of Fiji Water and a Beautiful Girl. It's a track I've deemed classic that needs to become a summer anthem (believe me it already was for whoever I shared it with last summer) for 2010. The reason it is so classic has to do with the raw energy the track emits as Chris spits bar after bar, matching the intensity of the beat. Even better, the chorus is catchy in that it paints a baller status picture for listeners, providing the imagery and grandeur that every rapper strives for in reaching baller status. Nothin' more high class than payin' like $4 for a bottle of water right??

Enough of my rhetoric, let's get to some classic ish....show this one to ya friends they'll appreciate...
