"Nightcrawler, is this the Death of Me?"

If you've been following ZHU lately then you probably heard about the not-so-subtle shot he took at the top DJs last week. The shade ZHU threw was directed at the list of DJs below in a dark, hype video his posted to Instagram for his new track below, Nightcrawler...

Subliminal shots aside, the track is as bouncy and deep as you'd expect from ZHU. His distinct, falsetto vocals work to undermine the creepiness of the lyrics, but the rolling deep house vibe is impossible to ignore. It's a forceful track that's destined to ignite clubs around the world. If you're biting on the track, you may want to opt-in on becoming part of The Blacklizt. No idea what that really means, it could be a tour, album, or even a cult. Even though I just openly speculated, it's not really my place to guess, I'm here to report on music that moves me. Needless to say, the plot thickens and there will be plenty more to sink your teeth into as he takes the EDM world head on...#Nightcrawler

Kaskade Shares an Ode to Every Woman

Happy International Woman's Day y'all! In celebration of today, Kaskade went ahead and flipped a Whitney Houston classic like a boss. Sticking with a deep House vibe, he enlisted the help of Laura Lanm and S2_Cool to unite women across the world through his own version of I'm Every Woman. It didn't stop with the song either as he released a companion video that's as happy and celebratory as you'd expect. Check it below...

Kaskade sent this one out to all the "powerful women in his life, both personal and professional, past and present." Wherever you are, I hope you take a minute to make a special woman in your life feel loved today because they deserve it. And if you can't think of anything to give them or say to them, at least share the free download link to this song with them...#InternationalWomensDay

Wyclef Makes a Rare Deep House Cameo

I've always been a Wyclef fan. Ever since The Fugees, I've enjoyed his diverse collection of music. Even though he claims that his first record ever was a House track on Big Beat Records, I don't remember hearing it. My lack of recollection made his cameo on Gorgon City's Zoom Zoom all the more enjoyable.

Deep House is in full effect to the point of it sounding monotonous on the collabo below. Gorgon City knows how to make a classy club beat, but they haven't deviated too much from their go-to sound. I enjoyed the novelty of hearing Wycelf's unique vocals over a swanky club, but I wasn't blown away by the end result. Hopefully you find it to be more than a novelty like I did...#ZoomZoom

ZHU Has Us All Eating Out of the Palm of His Hand

When it comes to Deep House, you'd be hard pressed to find an artist better than ZHU. Sure, his mysterious persona adds to the intrigue, but the dude makes some sexy music. Take for example his new one, Palm of My Hand. It has a full minute and 40 second whiny guitar lead in that will leave you wondering where the hell the song is going. Then, the groovy, addicting baseline drops in around the two minute and 15 second mark and all is well with the world. It's another lounge quality single that will be landing on his upcoming Generationwhy album making its digital landing on July 29th. If you speak French, you're probably pretty bummed out by the sad outro. Something about it being delivered in French makes it all the more loathsome. Still, can't hate on it one bit for being another reason to hop on the ZHU bandwagon...#PalmOfMyHand

"Are We Running From the Same Ghost?"

To be completely honest, it was a tough decision on what to post tonight. I love nights like tonight because they make up for the slow days where I'm struggling to find a new song to get excited about. If Flume's new one with Vic Mensa posted in its entirety, I might be writing about a different song tonight, but that didn't happen so, Gorgon City came to the rescue. To put it simply, they do Deep House really well and if you're looking for new proof of that, press play below.

Doubts is about as smooth as it gets with a clean mix of steadily thumping bass and soothing vocals. The wobble on the beat is palpable and will lure you in on the first listen. If you're counting at home, this is the fourth single off their upcoming album Kingdom. Word has it, that album won't arrive until August, but it will be the first of a two-part album series. Needless to say, there's plenty of new music on the way to satisfy all your lounge needs over the next year...#Doubts

Alan Walker's Faded Gets the Royal Remix Treatment

Visiting Europe these past two weeks gave me a dose of reality when it comes to music. For one, Lukas Graham's 7 Years is without a doubt the most widely played track on radio. Let's just say it grew on me too. The only other track that compares popularity wise is Alan Walker's Faded. Right before leaving for Europe, I was smitten by track and it was super awesome learning how unoriginal my likeness for the track actually was abroad...smh

Pride aside, the remixes to Faded should only serve as validation for how big the track has become. Seeing not one, but two unique remixes from Tiesto takes validation to a new level. Out of his two remixes, I'm a bigger fan of the deep house mix. Not that the Northern Lights remix is bad or anything, I just feel like the deep house version better carries on the mellow vibe of the original. To each their own, you make the call on your favorite between the six different takes below...#FadedRemixes

ZHU & Kaskade Save Their Best for the Morning

It may be a subtle difference, but remixing and re-imagining a track can be two different things. Call it semantics, but in my eyes, ZHU and Kaskade didn't just remix the original version of ZHU's In the Morning. To understand what I mean, here's the original version of In the Morning...

ZHU - In the Morning

Above, the original takes on a bubbly, Deep House feel. The quirky samples give it an outer space type of vibe. Even though the remix (below) has the same vocals and a similar Deep House vibe, the addition of acoustic guitar to the equation completely changes the personality of the track. Where the original was very dance-worthy, the remix takes on a much more mellow, easy-listening feel. It's a rare case where you could make a legitimate case for either being more awesome than the other depending on mood. It's a toss up for me, but if push came to shove, I'd give the smoother remix the nod if you forced me to pick...#InTheMorning

With You Brings the Heat Remixing Janet's No Sleep

Anybody who can transform a Janet Jackson hit into something better than the original deserves a lot of dap. Her recent single, No Sleep, is what you'd expect from one of the best R&B artists of all time. Her sultry voice always adds the perfect touch to slow jams and J Cole's verse fits like glove. Check the video for reference...

So what happens when you crank up the tempo and add in an unstoppable rolling bassline? You end up with an addicting remix from Major Lazer co-founder Dave "Switch" Taylor. If you've got an air tight memory, you might remember his recent track (Ghost) with up and coming rapper Vince Staples. Both tracks are heavy and rhythmic, but showcase two different sounds from With You. There's a clear Deep House flavor on both, but the No Sleep (Remix) takes it up another level. No word on how you can go about copping this new one, but if it leads to an avalanche of new music from With You, you won't hear me complaining...#WithYou

Disclosure Goes Womp Womp on Flume's Never Be Like You

To be honest, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the remix below. A little over a month ago I gushed over Flume's newest single, Never Be Like You. It was such a beautiful slow trap track that Kai's vocals shined all over. Given my affinity for the original, you can imagine how excited I was to see that Disclosure remixed the track.

Then, I pressed play and found myself transported to an after-hours lounge. Generally I like the Deep House vibe that Disclosure brings to tracks, but this one fell flat for me. Where Kai's vocals shined on the original, they were very subdued in the remix to a point of sounding monotonous. Speaking of monotonous, that's a good adjective for how the wobbly chords sounded after a few listens. A full six minutes of remix and I'm bummed to say that I wish the remix wasn't as long. Disclosure, I still love you guys, but this one wasn't my favorite track of your by a wide margin...#NeverBeLikeYou

Disclosure Takes Nocturnal to the V.I.P.

What's better than a Disclosure original? A V.I.P. mix with slightly more tempo than the original. If you didn't catch the original version of Nocturnal off their recent album Caracal, then catch up before you enter the V.I.P...
I'd call the original a fresh slice of funky house music that The Weeknd shines all over. The tempo is measured, to a point that it's almost difficult to dance to. And as you should know by now, Disclosure is all about the womp womp style Deep House that you'll find on their V.I.P. mix. The new version is much more their tempo, showcasing bouncy bass and a playful repetition. Basically if you liked the original, but just wished it had more tempo, they did you a solid on the new mix...#Noctural

"No One Can Love Me Like You Do, It's Automatic"

Just in case you weren't already intrigued by the mythical being that goes by the name of ZHU, here's a fresh new reason to pique your curiosity. The track already had enough hype leading up to its release, but having BBC Radio 1 premiere it tonight too the hype to another level. It helps that Automatic features UK's own AlunaGeorge, but in all honesty, it didn't need any hometown love to jettison the new single to success.

If you're a fan of ZHU's swanky, womp womp sound with sultry vocals, this will resonate with you. The low pitched vocal samples serve as a watermark on ZHU's sound and Aluna's soothing high-pitched vocals contrast well. My favorite part of the track was the beat break down around the three minute mark that was highlighted by a saxy ride out. Word has it this will be one of many tracks released by ZHU as part of his Genesis Series. It will feature the likes of Skrillex, Bone Thugs and A-Trak, so feel free and hop on the excited bus and keep F5ing the internet until a release date is posted...#Automatic

"Eyes on the Hourglass, As We Sink Into the Sand"

A few years back, you would have had to visit a swanky five star lounge to experience Deep House music. In my eyes, there type of music had become associated with an upgraded or exclusive experience. About a year ago, that perception was flipped on its head thanks to Disclosure. They took the vibrant, rhythmic essence of Deep House and morphed it into something much crisper and funkier than anything I had ever heard.

Thanks in large part to them leading the way, the genre has taken off in popularity and is spun with a lot more frequency in any club that plays dance music. And that's going to continue with their new album Caracal about two weeks away from release. I've had their collabo (Omen) with Sam Smith on repeat for the past month and now I've got another to add to it in the form of Hourglass. With the help of Lion Babe, an upbeat tempo and some well timed womp womp, you can chalk up another one for the good guys. There simple isn't another act who is capable of making this type of music as well as Disclosure...#Caracal

Diplo & Sleepy Tom Don't Walk Away From the 90s

It's only a matter of time before modern artists begin really tapping into the potential of 90s R&B music. It really was a golden age for R&B and a decade that shaped the way I feel about music in general, so I've got a soft spot in my heart for the decade as a whole. Something tells me Diplo feels the same way because this week he managed to refresh an early 90s classic from Jade. Press play below to take a trip down memory lane with me on Don't Walk Away...

Be Right There utilizes the hook quite well and adds a bit of tempo to give it a modern feel. You wouldn't think that early 90s R&B would translate to bouncy Deep House, but Diplo and Sleepy Tom proved that it can be done. This one is targeted directly at the late 20s/early 30s audience and as someone who fits that demographic, I'm taking the bait. Plenty of ways to consume this one, so don't be bashful y'all...#BeRightThere

"Don't Say a Word While We Dance With the Devil"

There's something refreshingly 80s about Duke Dumont's new single Ocean Drive. I know...I know...I can already hear your eyes rolling since the 80s was such a beloved decade for music. Yet, there's a hint of Deep House in the smooth, synth-pop rhythms that make the track slightly less dated. You better believe it, if you give the track a listen or two, you'll find yourself singing along with the every-so-catchy lyrics. The real question is whether or not you're going to be in attendance at one of Duke's shows this fall. With his new Blasé Boys Club EP: Part 1 due out in about two months, there's plenty more to get excited about in the coming months for one of UK's finest DJs. I'll be in attendance when he comes to the Bay Area, you can count on that much...#BlaseBoysClub

Sam Smith and Disclosure Prove to Be a Good Omen

Last weekend I got married. The first dance I had with my wife was to Sam Smith's acoustic version of Latch. I don't know if it's a good "Omen" or simply a well timed wedding gift, but Sam and Disclosure decided to release a new one last week. Rather than going the traditional Soundcloud route, they skipped a step and went straight to the visuals for their new single...

Yea, it's just as swanky and deep hous-y as you'd expect with stellar vocals from Sam. It's a funk-filled ballad that wobble its way right into your headphones. Whether it's clapping along or a steady head nod, this one is hot and will be getting worn out on my honeymoon this week. Shout out to two of UK's finest acts for proving an on-point, surprise wedding gift...#Omen

Calvin Harris Goes Real Deep With Disciples

Whoa, where did this funky Deep House side come from Calvin Harris? I don't know whether it's reaction to the growing demand for Deep House or if DJs are into the game of one-upmanship and having this tool in your bag is becoming a necessity. Either way, I am appreciating the variety of festival bangers, club anthems and funky house that have been showing up of late.

If you're wondering where the low bassline is coming from, look no further than Disciples who are featured on the track. The London's trio mix well with generally excitable production that Calvin brings to the table. Special shout out to Ina Wroldsen who co-wrote the track and chipped in the vocals for good measure. You want a good example of a lot of different styles and sounds coming together to form a beautiful marriage? Look no further than How Deep is Your Love...#HowDeepIsYourLove

Ed Sheeran's Photograph Goes Deep House

Riding high on the success of his most recent remix of OMI's Cheerleader, Felix Jaehn is back with another cooled out Deep House remix. This time he transformed Ed Sheeran's Photograph into a melodic, lounge quality hit. If you missed the original version from Sheeran's modern day classic album X, here's a quick recap...

Whether it's Deep House or Tropical House, the over-arching "chill" House movement is getting better and better. The bubbly chord progression on the remix below is about as relaxing as it gets when combined with the lethal vocals of Ed Sheeran. If you're on a beach somewhere celebrating Father's Day weekend, then this will be a perfect addition to that poolside playlist...#Photograph

Cazzette Does Deep on Chaka Khan's Miss My Love

If you're going to be remixing or sampling classic R&B vocals, you had better come strong. And that's exactly what Cazzette did when they transformed a Chaka Khan track into cooled out, Deep House groove. If you're like me and were born in the 80s, you may have missed the original and as a result, will have to use your imagination on what it sounds like because finding an actual streamable version of the original is incredibly hard to find. That's what makes the remix even more impressive, they recycled great vocals that not many people will remember. For me, it's the perfect way to kick off a relaxing weekend and it will even mix well with some of your favorite Trop House tracks. I like my EDM smooth and versatile, which is why the bootleg below found itself seamlessly transitioning to a few of the mixes I am putting together this weekend...#MissMyLove

Method White Arrives With an Exclamation Point

The first big step toward stardom for many artists is a debut album. If you're one of the talented few who really score big on that first effort, then you could find yourself in a spot similar to Disclosure. Riding high on the success of their debut album Settle, they created their own record label back in 2013 called Method Records. You might recognize that Method was the label who helped get Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour out the door last year en route to four recent Grammys.

Recently, Method Records grew a new branch by the name of Method White. According to Disclosure's Facebook page,
"Method White is going to be a platform for us to release some of our favourite music being created right now, music that we feel represents the best of the best of underground electronic music today!"
Seeing that electronic music is a booming business right now, there is probably a lot of great untapped potential lying in the weeds like Swedish DJ Jonas Rathsman. With the help of Method White, Jonas now has a well known platform to get his music out to the masses. And you better believe we're all better off as a result because Wolfsbane is a standout Deep House track. It's seven and a half minutes of pulse pounding rhythms that ebb and flow with a consistent amount of dance move inducing energy. If this doesn't get you excited about the type of music Method White is putting out, then you're probably not in the right corner of the internet reading this...#Wolfsbane

"I Think You Could Be, the Making of Me"

Not to take anything away from Sam Smith or Disclosure for their accomplishments as artists, but Jimmy Napes deserves a great deal of credit for their success. Having listened to a few solo tracks by Jimmy, I now have a better understanding of why Sam brought Jimmy up on stage to accept Grammy awards. Not everyone has a producer that deserves the mic at The Grammys, but Jimmy Napes sure did.

After listening to his newest song below, it's easier to quantify how influential he has been on other peoples' music. Great hooks, swanky deep house vibes and just enough harmony to get everyone singing along. The Making of Me checks all those boxes and will serve as the title track for his four song The Making of Me EP that is scheduled to hit e-stores on March 8th. If you take anything away from this post, it should be the impact that solid production has on making talented artists into industry leading artists that win Grammys...#TheMakingOfMe
