Katniss Everdeen Sings and Also Dances

There's something about revolution inspiring folk songs that really resonates with me. Case in point Jennfier Lawrence's Hanging Tree ballad from the latest Hunger Games movie. It may not have been the most exciting Hunger Games movie to date, but the soundtrack and, more specifically, this song stuck with me.

Maybe it's the emotional undertones of oppression and violence or that it sounds like a song that would be sung on the Underground Railroad. Either way, there's something about it that makes you want to sing it and chant along. To that point, kudos for Suzanne Collins who is responsible for writing the song. I'm not saying the dramatic buildup of symphony and overall solid vocals by Jennifer Lawrence didn't significantly help the track, but the lyrics embodied the core of the conflict in the movie so well. Oh, and don't forget Gazzo for the injection of energy into the original. I found myself conflict as far as whether or not I wanted to post the original since it is such a deviation from what I usually post, but luckily there was a talented DJ willing to delivery just the right amount of EDM sauce to make it more palatable...#HangingTree
