Happy Thanksgiving Y'all

If you're like me, you're kickin' it with your fam today while taking part in whatever established Thanksgiving traditions. Part of those traditions in my fam is starting to look forward to Christmas...which is generally kicked off by a steady stream of Christmas music. If you're in that camp and are in desperate need of some god forsaken alternative to Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas is You", then give a listen to the first single off Kaskade's upcoming Christmas album. For the life of me, I can't recall a Christmas themed EDM album, so I'm going to give it every chance to succeed. I love the wobbly, deep house undertones mixed with familiar Christmas vocals on Deck the Halls (below). This along with a Skylar Grey cameo on Oh Come Emmanuel make the concept an interesting proposition. Kaskade Shares an Ode to Every Woman

Happy International Woman's Day y'all! In celebration of today, Kaskade went ahead and flipped a Whitney Houston classic like a boss. Sticking with a deep House vibe, he enlisted the help of Laura Lanm and S2_Cool to unite women across the world through his own version of I'm Every Woman. It didn't stop with the song either as he released a companion video that's as happy and celebratory as you'd expect. Check it below...

"That's All We Need, Beneath With Me"

Remember that oft-teased collaboration between Kaskade, deadmau5, Skylar Grey? Dating back a full year, Beneath With Me has been hyped as a massive collaboration and this week it finally dropped in its finality. It's not quite on the Scud Books level of anticipation for me, but there's no doubting how well this trio fits together.

For starters, when you combine Skylar Grey's dark, haunting vocals over a symphonic chord progression weaved together by two of EDM's best, good things are going to happen. Even though it's been trimmed from the original six minute version that was originally leaked, the slow and steady build up and eventual calm, but energetic release has deadmau5's paws all over it. It's dramatic and steady, while finding a way to be exciting. That's not an easy thing to accomplish, which is why it immediately was added to my list of favorites...#BeneathWithMe

ZHU & Kaskade Save Their Best for the Morning

It may be a subtle difference, but remixing and re-imagining a track can be two different things. Call it semantics, but in my eyes, ZHU and Kaskade didn't just remix the original version of ZHU's In the Morning. To understand what I mean, here's the original version of In the Morning...

Above, the original takes on a bubbly, Deep House feel. The quirky samples give it an outer space type of vibe. Even though the remix (below) has the same vocals and a similar Deep House vibe, the addition of acoustic guitar to the equation completely changes the personality of the track. Where the original was very dance-worthy, the remix takes on a much more mellow, easy-listening feel. It's a rare case where you could make a legitimate case for either being more awesome than the other depending on mood. It's a toss up for me, but if push came to shove, I'd give the smoother remix the nod if you forced me to pick...#InTheMorning

Star Wars Embraces EDM on Headspace Album

It's a sign of the times that electronic music and nerdiness are becoming more and more intertwined by the day. Sure, you've got the whole part about how electronic music relies on a lot of digital manipulation, which requires a lot of skill and artistry with computers that nerds have been known to know how to use pretty well. But until recently when video games started knocking on a lot of EDM artists' doors, there hadn't been a lot of soundtracks that were predominantly EDM focused.

Keeping all that in mind, today was a big day for electronic music. You don't get much bigger whales than Star Wars when it comes to hardcore fan bases. The fact that big names like Baauer, GTA, Kaskade, Galantis, and Troyboi were all featured on the new Star Wars Headspace album is nothing short of awesome. After giving the whole album a listen, I thought the album as a whole was a really solid mix of Star Wars samples and synths. It was not easy picking a favorite, but if you held a gun to my head, I'd go with Röyksopp's Bounty Hunters. If you close your eyes, you might think for a minute that you're listening to the Tron soundtrack, but around the 4:30 mark, the beat fully hits its stride. Really dope track overall, but by all means, give the full compilation a listen because Rick Rubin did an excellent job putting together a top notch collection of new music...#Headspace

Never Sleep on Kaskade

I generally associate Kaskade with vibrant chords and soothing vocals. His new single is in the same neighborhood as what I'd normally expect, but with a much more bubbly, future house vibe to it. Never Sleep Alone will draw you in close with the harmony, then coerce you to dance when the beat drops.

The seamless mix of radio-ready melody with driving synths was first debuted at Holy Ship and today it finally hit iTunes. He may not always get mentioned as one of the greats, but Kaskade can hang with all your favorite DJs and the song below is proof of that...#NeverSleepAlone

The Cataracs & Waka Flocka Want All You Tonight

What do you get when you mix the production of @thecataracs with the belligerent yelling of @wakaflockabsm and the melodic vocals of a @kaskade track? An interesting, bass-infused party track. It's got The Cataracs signature synth horns and enough high energy shouting to make sure you understand it's supposed to be a loud party track. The reason it works, though, is the offsetting soft vocals that sample Kaskade's track All You (below):

I love the creative sampling among EDM artists and the track below is no exception. It's probably going to be released on The Cataracs upcoming about 12 that is due out sometime in...you guessed it, 2012. It'll be the first studio release from the duo since 2009 and I'm hoping it'll be chalked full of plenty other interesting concoctions like All You. Cop it if you like it and don't forget to have a #HappyEaster...
