Tonight The Chainsmokers Own the Night

As pop and EDM continue to be frequent bedfellows, remixes blending the two genres keep on comin'. The latest hook up between the two came in the form of The Chainsmokers' remix of The Wanted's Tonight We Own the Night. Below is the original video for the track if you haven't been privy to Top 40 radio of late...
It seems like a lifetime ago, but when I first began writing about music on a daily basis, I actually posted The Wanted's debut single back in 2010. If you've been with the blog for the long haul, you may remember me posting their debut single Heart Vacancy. I'd like to think my music tastes have evolved to a more Hip Hop and electronic centered vibe, but that doesn't mean I'm above a good boy band ballad every now and again. It's real easy to look down on the boy band culture, but it takes a real man to admit they sing like nobody's watching in the car to The Wanted.

As far as the remix is concerned, it's about as mellow and cooled out as you're gonna hear these days from a synth driven track. The sampled vocals from the original track remain in place, but the added chords elevate the track to a higher level. While the original is more of a slow sing along, the remix takes on a slightly more upbeat, harmonious tone. It's yet another great example of how Alex and Drew have a knack for steering a well-known song toward a different direction that makes the track likeable in a completely different way. Don't be afraid to support the dynamic duo by copping the remix on Beatport. Although they may be an up and coming boy band in their own right and undoubtedly pulling boy band ass, they don't have a world tour yet, so give 'em some love...#WeOwnTheNight

Videos of the Week May 10th

Run of the mill offering this week with a lot of Hip Hop and R&B. Evidently Lana Del Rey has become the icon for The Great Gatsby, which is fitting given her throwback style. Oh and this just in, Mariah Carey is still smokin' hot. Also, is it just me or are lyric videos now the new thing? I don't mean only lyrics as the video, I meant interaction style lyrics embedded into real videos like on T.I.'s Hello? Maybe it's the interaction designer in me, but I appreciate it...#UXMakesTheWorldGoRound

"I've Gotta a Feeling That I'm Not the Only One"

In an attempt to conclude Global Warming week with a bang, below is my best guess at @Pitbull's fourth single off the album. The track takes direct aim at his European audience with features from the British boy band @thewantedmusic and Dutch EDM kingpin, @djafrojack. The accordion during the hook mixed with aggressive electronics throughout the track makes for a dynamic pop club track.

Early reports have Global Warming opening up with respectable 35-40K first week sales. What most people don't realize is that there is much more to hear than the first three singles that have been released, so I would be willing to bet that number is only the starting point on his way to a second consecutive gold album...#GlobalWarming

"I Feel a Vacancy, In Your Heart, In Your Heart, In Your Heart"

Alright here we go off the beaten path again for a hot min, venturing toward pop with this one from new pop group out of the UK, The Wanted. Alright sue me, they're labeled as a new "boy-band" since the five members Max George (@maxthewanted), Siva Kaneswaran (@sivathewanted), Jay McGuiness (@jaythewanted), Tom Parker (@tomthewanted), and Nathan Sykes (@nathanthewanted) range in age 17-22. Real original and unpredictable with the Twitter names too..haha. Recently signed by Geffen Records, their debut album is due out Oct 25th and they already have a number 1 single in the UK titled All Time Low. The single is way more upbeat of a track and a whole lot more club friendly.

But that doesn't by any means it's better than the song below. For all you visual learners out there, check out the video for the featured song on this post, Heart Vacancy.
Prior to looking up The Wanted, I was under the impression they were more of a contemporary/acoustic band, but they're more the heartthrob boy band type, which doesn't take away from the likability of this track, but it serves as more of a forewarning for expectations on their album. I'm not afraid to admit I'm a sucker for pop ballads like this one I posted from One Call late last year.

Might be a little more for the ladies and fellas out there with a hidden softer side, but I'm a fan of the track...give it a listen...
