"Surfin' on My Own Way Baby"

Welcome back to the amusement park that is Kid Cudi's life y'all! It's been a struggle for me to lock in on where Cudi's music has been headed the past few years, but that hasn't stopped me from continuing to listen to each new release of his and hope for the best. The reason for that is because the music he makes will always be far from formulaic. Despite the lows from a few misses he's had recently, the limitless ceiling of his music forces me to be excited every time I press play on one of his new releases.

Speaking of new releases, he just let loose two brand spankin' new ones this week with Frequency and Surfin'. Back in March, I posted the initial version of Frequency, so you already know what's good with that track. Surfin' on the other hand is backed by a Pharrell production, which puts it on an entirely different level. It not only sounds like nothing Cudi has done before, it's also so delightfully Skateboard P that you'll be sick to your stomach. From the marching band style percussion lead in to the new funk vibe with complementary horns...it all points directly back to the genius that is Pharrell. I'm a little wary that it's a complete 180 from the moody Cudi music that I grew to love in the past, but I have no doubt there will be plenty of that when Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin' finally drops. His new album was supposed to be out by the end of September, but we'll have to wait a bit for a few sample clearances to get the green light before the four act, full length EP (tracklist below) finally drops...#Surfin
