Cudi Remains Polarizing on Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven
Man, what's the deal with Kid Cudi? Just when everyone was getting excited for his new "experimental" album and subsequent tour, the tour gets called off and his album gets run through a wood chipper review wise. I've spent the better part of 15 minutes scouring the internet for a positive review of Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven, but it's tough. That's not necessarily an indictment on Cudi because he's never made mainstream music, but it proves how fickle critics can be.
I'm not about to tee off on Scotty because he's made some incredibly powerful music in his day. I'm actually a fan of the title track of his new album below because of how it raw it is. The repetitive acoustic beat is simple, but sets an apropos tone for Cudi's characteristically somber flow. If you're a fan of Cudi, you don't listen to hear about rainbows and unicorns, you listen to hear the angsty struggle and pain. It's not a departure from the usual tone of his music, which is why I like Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven. I'm not quite ready to get on board with the whole album, but we'll see if a few laps around the two disc, 26 song double album changes that stance...#SpeedinBullet2Heaven
