Louis the Child and Whethan Make Sweet Honey Together

Listening to Louis the Child and Whethan's new mixtape affirms something I've always believed. When talents artists decide to tour together, good things happen. And what I mean by good things is more good music for all of us to enjoy that we wouldn't have been privy to if they didn't spend so much time on the road together.

Honey is chalked with instrumental fire from the moment you press play. While Chop It Up is the current favorite of the six tracks, the choppy, slo-mo reggaeton with bass and big horns of Tengo Mas is already growing on me. I don't need to tell you how much you'll like it if you're already a fan of either artist, but for those who aren't acquainted with their music, there's more than enough below to convince you to take a deep dive into both artists' discography...#Honey

"Let's Kiss and Then Take Off Our Clothes"

Another week, another Whethan heater. It's as if he's about to embark on a huge tour and he wants to keep a steady stream of his music on our recent playlists. Before I get too far, go ahead and take note when he's coming to a city near you...

As far as his new remix of Lorde's Perfect Places, it's out there, but in a good way. The same way you'll hear Baauer and RL Grime occasionally venture off the reservation, Whethan filled the remix with plenty of experimental samples. Between the pops, clacks, and clangs and vibrant synths, there's a whole lot of bass and sultry vocals. It's a fun, upbeat take on Lorde's original, playful pop track. You won't be able to track this one down on iTunes or Spotify, but if you're like me, you're all good with Soundcloud...#PerfectPlaces

"Kiss Me With Your Eyes Open"

Saying that Whethan is on a roll doesn't do justice to the epic streak of recent singles he's put out. Savage, Love Gang, and Good Nights come to mind when thinking of flame-worthy singles. The best part about it? All three of them are distinctly different. The first one's a banger, the second is an edgy pop single, and the third is a quiet Indie track.

So what about the new one you ask? I'd characterize Sleepy Eyes as chill electronica. Elohim's vocals set the tone, but the bubbly drop is what will cause you to save it to your newest playlist. It's rare that a new artist can be so all over the place, but in good way. In baseball you'd call that effectively wild. In the music sense, it's more of an inability to predict what's next, which makes for plenty of anticipation before hitting play. What will Whethan do next? Guess we'll see, but it churning out a fifth stellar single in a row will be a tall task...#SleepyEyes

"Saturday Nights Couldn't Get Much Clearer"

I still haven't quite honed in on Whethan's sound as an artist, but that's more of a reflection on how diverse his singles have been so far. Good Nights is much more chill than previous releases, but it's equally as potent with Mascolo's vocals shepherding the way. The vibe of the track feels more like what you'd expect from The Chainsmokers when they were collaborating with talented vocalists you hadn't heard of yet. It's a stark contrast to Love Gang, which is why I'm still feeling out what Whethan is capable of as an artist. The good news is he's hitting the road on tour this summer, so there will be plenty of opportunity to investigate his capabilities further in the coming months. Check his tour trailer below along with the obligatory links to iTunes and Spotify...#GoodNights

"Let's Catch a Shooting Star in the Sky and Rise"

A few months back I posted a warning shot from an up and comer named Whethan. Well, it didn't take him long to hit his stride because his new one with Charli XCX is bangin'! On first listen the edgy guitar riff caught my attention. The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate how Charli's soft vocals contrast with the heavy beat and stop and go tempo. The icing on the cake was that soothing chord progression around the two minute mark that invites you to come closer before smacking you in the face with another drop. Lucky for us, there are more than one free way to enjoy this one below. Enjoy picking a favorite below or head on over to iTunes or Spotify if you're already sold...#LoveGang

"Something About You Turns Me To a Savage"

I'm gonna be honest, I'm still trying to figure out whether I like the song below. There's something about it that I can't turn away from, but it's on the periphery of what enjoy EDM wise. The abrasive guitar riff progression post pushes my tolerance for abrasive, aggro beats. That being said, the contrast between the seemingly vocal R&B beginning and the pedal to the metal electro-drop is downright enticing. Like anything strange and alluring, with every lap around Savage I'm liking it more and more. Kudos to Whethan for bringing in Flux Pavilion and MAX to create such a unique track. It's big news that Whethan is headlining his first 15 city tour, so if you're a fan, check out the seventeen year old phenom when he comes to town...#Savage
