Listening to Louis the Child and Whethan's new mixtape affirms something I've always believed. When talents artists decide to tour together, good things happen. And what I mean by good things is more good music for all of us to enjoy that we wouldn't have been privy to if they didn't spend so much time on the road together.

Honey is chalked with instrumental fire from the moment you press play. While Chop It Up is the current favorite of the six tracks, the choppy, slo-mo reggaeton with bass and big horns of Tengo Mas is already growing on me. I don't need to tell you how much you'll like it if you're already a fan of either artist, but for those who aren't acquainted with their music, there's more than enough below to convince you to take a deep dive into both artists' discography...#Honey

You want to know what chilled to the max sounds like? Press play below and enter into a steel-drum led, calypso flavored, get drunk in paradise anthem. Credit to Louis The Child for choosing Ashe as the one to deliver vocals that are equal parts playful and mellow. There's a gentle ebb and flow of rhythm, but the lyrics will all but walk you to the liquor cabinet to mix a drink on your way to getting loose and making questionable decisions. It's as tasteful as you can get for being all about getting drunk and running a red light on the foreplay. Despite their stylistic differences, I have a hard time distinguishing Louis Futon's music with Louis the Child. Given the amount of music I've written about for each of them, I'm clearly a fan of what they're both doing. Tonight it was the Child's turn to step into the limelight with a remix of Chance the Rapper's All Night. For the uninformed who haven't taken a few laps around Coloring Book, press play on the YouTube video below for context...



Let's just say Louis the Child took the smooth vibe of the original and cranked the energy level up a few notches. Where the original bobs along with a bubbly bass line, the remix takes a decidedly different percussion led angle. You'll immediately be able to feel the Louis the Child influence post-drop around the one minute mark. The vibrant, bouncy chords are a dead giveaway. Whatever you do, don't miss out on that dope beat break down around the 2:37 mark. The throwback video game synths unleashed at a breakneck pace are a good look. It would be easy write Matthew Koma off as just another guy who sings hooks on EDM tracks, but not in this hood of the internet. Yes, he's been featured on a lot of high profile tracks, but his vocals are only the tip of the iceberg of what he brings to the table as an artist. For example, you may not know that he's also written tracks for Zedd, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Tiesto.

Now, he's taking it to the next level with a debut studio album on the way in 2017. The first single (below), Hard to Love, features a production assist from current GWDJ favorite Louis the Child. It's a catchy track that will have you singing along by the second time the hook comes around. And just in case it didn't grab you by the second hook, you'll surely get snagged by the Beck Loser sample toward the end of the track. It's a momentum building track that got me excited for what's to come the next few months...#HardToLove

As I alluded to on the Videos of the Week post on Friday, Louis the Child is on an absolute heater. Everything they churn out makes me feel like they're pushing EDM in directions that I want it to go as a fan of the genre. I'm not even sure I'd characterize their new single Elohim as EDM. Love is Alive is a quietly powerful, heavy, yet uplifting from start to finish. There's an undercurrent of love rules above all that I really dig, but the contrast of soft vocals and hammer-like rolling bass line is what gets me going. I'm not sure whether to sing along, nod my head, dance or just cool out. It's these moments where I really love great music because so few things on earth can stretch and pull you in different directions like an addicting beat. What is there left to say, I can't wait to see what they come up with next...#LoveIsAlive

For the first time in a while, this week's top five was directly centered around late night. Three out of the five videos had ties to either SNL or Fallon or both in one case. Led by Aziz Ansari's stellar opening monologue, this week started off with a bang. I don't think anyone could have appropriately summed up what everyone was thinking about Trump being elected than he did. Then, Steve Aoki and Louis Tomlinson showed why their new song, Just Hold On, is skyrocketing up EDM charts as we speak. And to wrap up the late night stuff in a nice neat little bow, Big Sean went on Fallon to talk about his first appearance on SNL. #FullCircle

If you need a music fix, Louis the Child has your back with a fiery new video for their new single with Evalyn. It's apropos because anything Louis touches is white hot fire right now *spoiler alert their new single released today is dope*. And last but certainly not least is a video that got me hype as hell. Being from Indiana, I've been to the big race a few times. I've only been once since they went full on EDM with the Snake Pit, but this year's lineup is more than worth the price of admission. The trio of Zedd, marshmello, and RL Grime is about as dope as it gets for a one day lineup. Wait a minute, what the hell is a Pellican Child? Good question because I had no idea either, but the double l's should have been a dead giveaway. It's Louis the Child (producer duo Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett) and Pell (rapper) bundled into one glorious trio. Before you go on thinking it's some crazy Future Bass/Hip Hop mash up (I know, doesn't that sound dope in concept?), check your expectations at the door. What you're getting when you press play on Turn Me Down is a swanky Hip Hop track that might remind you on Macklemore at his best.

Some tracks are one trick ponies, this one happens to offer quite a bit to sink your teeth into. For starters, the beat lays the groundwork with bright, carefree percussion and bright piano sprinkled throughout the track. Then comes Pell with some head-nod worthy verses and finally finish it off with a hook that will burrow it's way into the deepest crevices of your mind. You're going to remember this track, so don't feel bad about singing along y'all. Oh and pick you poison while you're at it, iTunes or Spotify...#TurnMeDown

If Louis the Child isn't on your list of noteworthy up and coming EDM acts you need to wake up. Despite the fact I've only posted two of their tracks to this daily internet billboard, they've been on a roll lately as they dive into the world of original music. I've waxed poetic for years about how The Chainsmokers were able to shed the "remix DJs" label by absolutely killing it with their own music and now it looks like the duo from the Windy City may be next to break out.

Their new one features the vocals of Evalyn and puts on full display a vibrant Future Bass sound. While Fire is more chill than in your face, it finds a way to be memorable with a jammin' chord progression post-drop. The vocals do a great job of building up the drama before they hit it out of the park post drop. Chalk another one up for Louis the Child as the continue to seep into playlists around the globe...#Fire

A Novel Concept - Treating Weekdays Like the Weekend

Anytime you see Icona Pop featured on a track, you know it has a high likelihood for becoming a pop anthem. This time they latched onto a concept that will without a doubt resonate with the millennial crowd. With the help of Louis the Child's vibrant chords, the Swedish duo embraced the YOLO vibe of Weekend, encouraging listeners to not feel like they have to wait until Friday night to pop bottles. If you're not in the partying mood, you'll probably want to turn this off immediately and dismiss it as "just another Pop song." But, if you're at the end of a long week and feeling like letting go, you'll find yourself singing this one to yourself in the car...don't lie...#Weekend

Louis the Child Gets a Little Bit Genghis Khan

After watching Miike Snow's recent video for Genghis Khan, I haven't been able to stop humming it to myself. The funky overtures and quietly catchy vocals make for a deadly earworm combination. If you thought Animal was a catchy track, you'd be hard pressed to convince me that their latest single is anything less than that.

Enter up and coming Chicago duo, Louis the Child. They took the essence of the original version of Genghis Khan and transformed it into a chopped up, Future Bass track. The strength of the vocals carries over to the remix, but sound very different over the less funky, but more bouncy reincarnation. Can't fault you one bit for choosing this over the original, but in this instance, I'm going funk over bass and sticking with the original as my go-to...#GenghisKhan
