Louis the Child Gets a Little Bit Genghis Khan

After watching Miike Snow's recent video for Genghis Khan, I haven't been able to stop humming it to myself. The funky overtures and quietly catchy vocals make for a deadly earworm combination. If you thought Animal was a catchy track, you'd be hard pressed to convince me that their latest single is anything less than that.

Enter up and coming Chicago duo, Louis the Child. They took the essence of the original version of Genghis Khan and transformed it into a chopped up, Future Bass track. The strength of the vocals carries over to the remix, but sound very different over the less funky, but more bouncy reincarnation. Can't fault you one bit for choosing this over the original, but in this instance, I'm going funk over bass and sticking with the original as my go-to...#GenghisKhan

This week's top five is all about variety. There's a bit of Trop House, Hip Hop, Pop and even some mashed up alternative. Led by the editing insanity of The Usual Suspect on his use of 183 movies to mash together Linkin Park's In the End, there was some high end novelty potential this week. No idea how long it took for him to create that video, but the nearly two million views are well deserved. Coming in close behind is a much tamer, but equally awesome performance Stole the Show from Kygo and Parson James on Ellen. Sidebar - Kygo killed it last night in SF.

In the realm of Hip Hop, DJ Mustard and Travis Scott led the way with their booty shake inducing new one Whole Lotta Lovin'. Speaking of booty shaking, the final two videos offer plenty of dancing. 99 Souls video for The Girl is Mine is about as fun as it gets with creative editing and interesting transitions. The final video of the week from Miike Snow is about as interesting and outlandish as it gets from a plot perspective. Picture a Dr. Evil-esque villain who is experiencing some bit of sexuality confusion. Then, he falls for the secret agent that he captures and lives happily ever after as a same sex couple. Can't make that type of stuff up, you just have to watch...#GhengisKhan

If there was a genre called "party music", A-Trak would be the headliner. Fresh off his successful Low Pros collabo with Hip Hop maestro Lex Luger, Flan Solo is back at it again with a new synth-pop/dance single featuring the vocals of Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt. You better believe the dynamic duo found a way to craft an addicting hit in Push. The piano backbone definitely reminds me of Miike Snow's style and it mixes really well with the emotion dripped vocals and uptempo rhythms. Feel free and cop it along with a handful of remixes on the full length EP if you feel so inclined...#Push

The Devil's Work Happens in the Dirty South

Seeing that I'm a fan of Swedish pop music, there was little hesitation in deciding to post Australian DJ @dirtysouth's uptempo, EDM rendition of @miikesnow's hit Devil's Work. In case you're not familiar with the original song that was recently released on Miike's latest album Happy to You, feel free and check out the video and supplementary film accompanyment...

Yea I know what you're thinkin', man that might have been the plainest, most mundane video I've ever seen. I guess some people might find it artsy in a way? Either way not my deck of cards.

The good news is, the original track got a shot of hot sauce in the form of a electronica thanks to DJ Dirty South. If you're wondering whether this track came out of left field, you are mistaken and I've got a few heat rocks as evidence. On his list of badass remixes are @nerouk's Me and You, @skylargrey's Invisible and @DIRTYMONEYCREW's Coming Home. That's a stacked lineup of great tracks that he managed to infuse energy into and I can say that I've had all of them on a playlist at some point in the past year.

Only beef I've got with the remix below is the first minute of the track, which is so repetitive it might cause you to drive your car into oncoming traffic. On the flip side, the cover art that mixed his logo with Miike Snow's logo was pretty exemplary. Nothing cooler than a devilish jackalope for cover art...#Truth

"You Say Isn’t It Hard? Paddling Out, Paddling Out"

I'll be the first to admit, I did a poor job of giving enough credit to @MiikeSnow for their self titled debut album. Like everyone else, I was impressed with tracks like Animal and Black and Blue. I like upbeat music in general, so despite my inability to properly slot Miike's music into a genre, I am not missing out on an opportunity to get people who read my blog excited about his new album.

The new effort, titled Happy to You, is going to drop on March 26th. Paddling Out will serve as the lead single. For all of you closely paying attention, you may have thought his latest track Devil's Work was their first single, but that didn't end up coming to fruition. Despite being dope in it's own right, it will take a backseat to the one below.

Another cool thing to note is that a group led by Miike group members, @lykkeliofficial and @peterbjorn recently formed INGRID records back in July. I can see the closeness in proximity with musical style between the three and the fact that two out of three are Swedish probably helps. Either way, I'm liking the uniqueness that they keep coming with and am seriously considering seeing Miike in concert when he turns eastward on his Happy to You tour...#SeeYaThere
