"I Call, Baby Come Find Me"

There is beauty in simplicity. Details can be helpful, but also distract away from what is most important. Case in point Emile Haynie's new single, Come Find Me, featuring talented vocalists Lykke Li and Romy Madley Croft (of The xx). Like many other tracks Emile has been behind, he finds a way to take you on an emotional journey that is guided by instrumentation. The beginning of the track is soft and harmonic, but as it progresses, the intensity of the strings become much more pronounced, shifting the mood to a more somber tone. The simplicity of Lyyke's vocals are perfect in that they stay the same, but take on different meaning throughout the track. If you're an EDM fan, you might listen to the first ten seconds of this track, yawn and move on to the next song. That's fine by me, but if you have a minute to give it a full listen with an open mind, you may be surprised how something that is seemingly so simple has a much deeper story...#BabyComeFindMe

Lykke & Rocky No Rest For the Wicked

While most people are probably a bit unnerved when rappers find their way on chill pop tracks, I tend to gravitate toward those type of tracks. In my opinion, beauty can come from harsh contrast when it isn't too overdone. When I say contrast of chill and rap, think James Blake/Chance the Rapper's Life Round Here or Lana Del Rey/A$AP Rocky's Ridin. Before I get too ahead of myself, you need to hear the original to appreciate the contrast...

Ever since I heard Drake and Lykke's A Little Bit, I've been a big fan of her music. Feel free and add No Rest For the Wicked to my list of her favorites. Original aside, the real intrigue on the remix comes around the 2:45 mark, when the Hip Hop beat meshes with the original. That's when Lord Flacko goes to work and elevates his verse to another level. Sure, his verse is abrasive when contrasted with the original, but the remix added the right amount of wicked...#NoRestForTheWicked

Can Love Come Out of Lust?

Since Timbaland Thursdays took a break this week, I felt like going outside the box for tonight's post. On the low, I've been a fan of Lykke Li for a minute now. To say she's different is apropos, but doesn't quite do justice to the music she's capable of creating. I say that because she's got an intriguing voice and when combined with her electronic samples that blend with the percussion to create an almost tribal sound to her music...it's real easy for me to appreciate the uniqueness of her sound. As a sample, check out her new video for her first single off Wounded Rhymes, I Follow Rivers...
Oh and in case you missed it, Spin Magazine gave her new album Wounded Rhymes an 8/10 with a description, "Ms. Freeze: Steely vamp turns heartbreak into a chilling spectacle". The praise laden review should attract plenty of people to iTunes when it lands there on March 1st.

What you can expect from the track below (her best song to date in my eyes) is a Pure Moods-esque ballad that will have you trying to understand what the hell she's trying to say. When you finally wrap your brain around it, you'll appreciate the positivity it emanates, imploring anyone listening to love freely and dance often...
"We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was
We can cross rivers with our will
We can do better than I can
 So dance while you can
 Dance cause you must
 Love out of lust
 Dance while you can"
Anybody else feel like they're listening to Pocohontas with those flutes in the background? Whatever it is, it's beautiful and @lykkeliofficial has the vocals to shine all over it. Put it this way, Lykke Li is to M.I.A. is what Katie Perry is to Ke$sha, a little less batshit crazy and subsequently less in your face and more artistic. To each their own, but I'm digging her style like a swagger jacker with a shovel. Don't sleep on her album folks, she's the real deal...

Buzz Track: Lykke Li - Get Some (Beck Remix)

All I can say is I'm intrigued by Lykke Li and have been ever since Drake hopped on her track Little Bit on So Far Gone. She's got that Gaga swag and unrelenting hipster appeal to her music and videos and it's time she starts getting put on blast a bit for her music. If you're wondering what the hell I'm talking about, check out her video below of the original version of Get Some...
Interesting too that an alternative Hip Hop producer like Mike D of the @BEASTIEBOYS would make an attempt at a remixing this track too, making it sound 180 degrees different than the original. To be fair, it really was a coin toss figuring out which remix I liked better, but in the end I felt like fellow weirdo Beck. Crazy rawkus guitar riffs and marching band style drums make this remix stand out like a thumb thats been slammed in a car door.
How many other Swedish pop stars are you a fan of? Alright smartass I'll give you Robyn and September, but on the real, open up your ears (and hearts) to Lykke Li, a slightly tamer version of Gaga with a whole lotta talent in her own unique right...
