Bassnectar's Music Can Transport You to Other Worlds

Wobbly, deep, ethereal, and vibrant are all adjectives I'd use to describe Bassnectar's new single Other Worlds. I feel like I've used all those words to describe Bassnectar at some point, but not all on the same track. That's a testament to him continuing to expand his reach stylistically while holding on to the Dubstep/Drum and Bass style that got him to where he is now.

Other Worlds and Slather are two teaser tracks that should get you excited for him new forthcoming Reflective EP Part 2 that's rumored to be dropping in December. In case you missed it, Reflective Part 1 was a six song EP that he dropped back in June. On the EP he had another collabo with Dorfex Bos that was equally as dope as the one below in Horizons. Maybe it's my current Stranger Things affliction, but there's something to these outer space sounding, eerie synth vibe tracks like the one below...#OtherWorlds

"Why Don't You Just Pull the Trigger?"

Without Flux Pavilion, I don't know where I'd satisfy my drum and bass cravings. On his new one featuring the vocals of Cammie Robinson, he toes the line between heavy and melodic. In between the melodies and gentle, wobbly chords, there are some serious bass hits that remind you Pull the Trigger isn't as much of a ballad as you thought it was. The smooth drum and bass layered over stellar vocals provide a perfect example of how hard hitting bass can actually be relaxing if done right. I'm about five laps deep on this one on and see no end in sight. For the paying crowd, check it on iTunes, otherwise feel free and hit up Spotify for unlimited, almost free listening...#PullTheTrigger

Drum and Queso from Two of the Best

I'm a sucker for good drum and bass. That's a big reason why I always seem to take the bait whenever Caspa and Rusko put out something new. Their new one, Cheese, delivers an energetic vibe loaded with a catchy vocal sample and steady mainline of synths and percussion. At first they lure you in with vibrant piano chords and a vocal sample tease, but it eventually gives way to controlled craziness with the ability to ear worm its way into your dome. It's like The Prodigy meets Keys N Krates, which is a match made in heaven. Give this one a look on iTunes or Spotify and while you're at it, give their recent three song EP 1 a listen...#Cheese

Flux Flips Faithless Classic Into Drum and Bass Masterpiece

One thing I really appreciate is when modern EDM artists reach back into the archives to dust off a classic. Electronic music as a whole didn't begin to start gaining appreciation from an American audience until the decade after Y2K. As a result, there's an entire history of electronic music that not a lot of people know about. For example, if it weren't for Avicii and now Flux Pavilion, I wouldn't know very much about Faithless. Evidently, they've made a lot of great music in their day, including their 2001 hit We Come One (below)...

In hindsight, it was a pretty awesome track that I wish I had known about earlier. But, luckily, Flux has my back because he modernized the original by adding his own special sauce. There are few that can impart the type of awe inspiring drum and bass progressions that Flux Pavilion is able to generate. This isn't just a solid remix, it's a great remix that adds in a few exclamation points and a whole lot of a head nod worthy bass. If you want to know what in EDM specifically resonates the core of what I like about music listen to this exemplary display of drum and bass and you'll understand me a little bit better...#WeComeOne

Echoes Revisits Band of Horses' The Funeral

When Kid Cudi remixed Band of Horses back in the day, I gained an appreciation for their folk rock appeal. That was way back in 2008 and since then, Band of Horses has continued on to a point where they were nominated for a Grammy in 2010. At no point did I think to myself, man their music would sound great with a little bit of drum and bass added to it. To that point, credit Echoes for doing an amazing job remixing their first ever single The Funeral.

I'll admit, it took about a minute ten seconds for the remix to get into gear, but Lexi Norton knocked it out of the park. Where the original was slow and melodic, the remix is harmonious and energetic with the drum and bass leading the way. The chopped up vocals fit well with the beat and make it a completely different track than the original. To be honest, it's going to be quite a while before I get sick of this one, it's got serious playlist staying power...#ReadyForTheFuneral

Collin McLoughlin Plants His Own White Flag

Generally, when an artists remixes a classic track they find a way to incorporate parts of the original track. Usually it's the vocals, sometimes it's the beat, but on rare occasions, it's just the lyrics. And here's where Collin McLoughlin takes a left turn when he sees everyone else take a right. He not only produced the easy-listening, drum and bass flavored instrumental, he took it a step further by doing the vocals too.

Don't get it twisted, Dido's vocals are off the charts and while Collin did his thing, trying to equal her original effort wouldn't be a worthwhile task. Still, his version succeeds in its simplicity and is a refreshing take on a classic track. If you take nothing away from this post, know that Collin McLoughlin is a multi-talented dude...more talented than both your favorite DJ and vocalist...#FreeDownload
