Here's another one that admittedly slipped through the GWDJ cracks. Given the novelty of Steve Aoki, Ma$e, and Big Gigantic getting together on a track together, I have no idea how I missed it. Generally Steve's brand of EDM is hit or miss with my tastes, but this one kicks a whole lot of a$$. That sax breakdown post-drop from Big Gigantic alone is worth the price of admission. Beyond that, it was dope hearing some vintage M-A-$-E on the mic. His buttery smooth delivery hasn't changed a bit over the years and it's kind of crazy how well it works when layered on top of the craziness that Steve Aoki put together on $4,000,000. Chances are you've already seen this ebb and flow out of your playlists, but in case you're like me and missed it, don't let this one slip by any longer...#4000000

Time to Reload the Big Grizmatik

Big Gigantic, GRiZ, and Gramatik combining forces has to be one of the best decisions to combine forces multiple artist have made in EDM. I'd call that a hot take when stacked against the duo of Jack U, but the proof continues to be in the saxy pudding.

Take for example their latest salvo, As We Proceed. There's soul, there's funk, and plenty of quirky synths to add an extra layer of intrigue. They take turns speeding it up and slowing it down to a live band vibe, but it all meshes together to create this really unique blend of old and new. What I mean by that is your parents probably really dig the live band aspects and you are probably loving the drops and added tempo that the electronics bring. It's seemingly the perfect blend of sounds and vibes to bridge generations of music fans, which fascinates me. We can only hope that this is a breadcrumb leading to some sort of album manifestation, but for now I'm cool with running laps around their new one on iTunes and Spotify...#AsWeProceed

"Take it All, Ain't No Way I Can Break it Off"

With all the collaborations between Hip Hop and EDM these days, I'm beginning to raise my own bar for being impressed. That being said, a collabo between three of my favorite artists is probably starting out with a higher chance of eclipsing that bar than your average track. Seeing Big Gigantic, Logic, and Rozes on the same track together caused me to fumble with the mouse because I tried to click play so fast.

...and All of Me absolutely impressed! It was way more mellow than I imagined, but I was really stoked with how well Big Gigantic put together a slow, melodic Hip Hop sounding beat. There's a gentle drop, but if I closed my eyes and listened to it without knowing who was on it, I wouldn't have pegged this as a BG track. It was one of those rare times where I felt like I needed to re-evaluate my expectations for Big Gigantic because I clearly shortchanged his wide variety of sounds. Maybe the horns after the gentle drop are more of a tell than I thought at first, but it's much more slow trap than the usual sax driven beats he churns out. Even better, Logic chipped in a stellar 16, which along with Rozes hook, elevated the track well beyond what I expected. It's clearly one of my favorite new songs and I hope it, along with his upcoming Brighter Future album, is too...#AllOfMe

Who's in the mood for some tasty horns? Hopefully you raised your hand there because Big Gigantic just dropped a brand spankin' new dance track will take you on a horn-filled funk adventure. Featuring the soft vocals from Jennifer Hartswick, Got The Love fires on all cylinders toward an easy listening electronic track. It's pace is melodic, letting you enjoy it's diverse range of samples and mini-drops along the way.

The new one below will be surfacing on Big Gig's upcoming Brighter Future album, due out on August 26th. It doesn't get any funkier than a Big Gigantic and GRiZ collaboration. They'd been doing a lot together lately, including bringing George Clinton on stage, but their new one takes their talents collectively to a different height. The way they're able to go big and small on horns and layer them over a steady stream of bass is such a good look. In particular, their synth, guitar, and saxophone combo lays the foundation for energetic, danceworthiness. It's awesome that their music requires little to no vocals because they're able to add so much intrigue with their use of instrumentation. And of course, the best part about it is that all you'll need to do is opt in on Big Gigantic's email list to download C'mon for free. That's highway robbery from where I come from, so hop on it before the prices goes up to iTunes rates...#Cmon

Videos of the Week June 3rd

While music mostly dominates the top five this week, there are a few clear standouts. First and foremost, seeing Pharrell's reaction to Maggie Rogers' demo track at NYU's Clive Davis Institute in late March was genuinely awesome. I say that because his facial expressions show how moved he was when listening to her song. Really awesome to hear him interpret how well she conveyed her journey through music.

In the music video world, Alan Walker continued his come up with a video for his latest single Sing Me To Sleep. It sounds a lot like Faded, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. In other news, Timeflies managed to bring back college in their fratastic video for Once in a While and Martin Solveig threw a coastal/desert dance party in his video with Tkay Maidza for Do it Right. Rounding out the top five is a special dose of awesome from the amalgamation known as Big Grizmatik. The three headed monster managed to recruit George Clinton to join them on stage and, needless to say, craziness ensued...#BigGrizMatik

There are few things I look forward to more than a new single from Big Gigantic. Sure, everyone points to the horns from Dominic Lalli as the differentiator, but the headphone thumping bass can't be ignored either. On his new single with Angela McCluskey, Gigantic showcases plenty of his signature saxophone with a whole lot of that aforementioned bass. The vocals and steady tempo produce a laid back vibe that's more boomy and deep than calming. Simply put, the duo from Boulder, Colorado have a formula of funk that is intoxicating when put on an electronic music backdrop. Stay on the look out for anything they have their name attached to and don't be shy about copping The Little Things...#BigGigantic

Funk With Me Gets Funkier and Doesn't Funk Around

Is there such a thing a being too much or too over the top in EDM? Normally, I'd say no way, the unbridled energy is what makes electronic music so appealing. Then, I listened to Snails and Big Gigantic's VIP mix of their track Funk With Me. You wanna talk about hitting the gas pedal and keeping it on the floor for a full two and a half minutes! Although I appreciate the trappy beat breakdowns sprinkled in the mix, the sax is almost completely extinguished in favor of balls-to-the-wall, ear-rattling synths. Tonight I may have finally reached old man status because this one was a big much for my taste. Who knows, maybe it'll tickle your fancy, though. There's no denying it packs a punch, so by all means, if your latest playlist needs a jolt of energy, this one will more than do the trick...#FunkWithMeVIP

If you haven't caught onto this big sexy saxophone revolution, here's your perfect chance to hop on the bandwagon. Hands down, the two artists in the game that use the sax best are Big Gigantic and GRiZ and they just so happen to finally collaborate. They didn't just collaborate, though, they knocked it out of the park. Led by soulful, "take-em-to-church" vocals and a fun call-and-response toward the end, Good Times Roll wins on so many levels. Also, if you're into free stuff and have a Spotify account, then you get to enjoy the track for free. Hard Time Gets a Big Gigantic Saxy Remix

While some may argue that it's not all about the sax, I vehemently disagree. Case in point, the latest saxy remix by Big Gigantic of Seinabo Sey's Hard Time. You may remember Seinabo Sey from Kygo's remix of Younger, but her newest track is even catchier in my eyes. Check the original version of her video for Hard Time below...

While the original brands itself as an intense ballad, the remix is all about the funk. You'll be hard pressed to find a more stark difference between original and remix. I like that the remix brings out the soul in the vocals because it blends oh so well with the upbeat version done by Big Gigantic. At this point, I'm left wondering, what was life like before the saxophone was introduced into EDM?...#BigGigantic

It's All About the Funk Mixed With Sax

Here's another great example of why EDM is the most exciting genre right now. Yet another OWSLA artist taking their own unique brand of electronic music and absolutely making it his own. I've been warming up to Snails for a while, but his new collaboration with Big Gigantic is nothing short of funk-filled deliciousness.

While the cover art for Funk With Me might stick with you a while, the dirty bass and sax combination is stellar. There's such a cool mix of grown up funk and unadulterated teenage craziness that you don't usually hear on one track at the same time. You'll be able to find this one and many other heat rocks like it on the OWSLA Spring Compilation 2015 that will be hitting iTunes on Tuesday. After a quick look at the checklist, you'll be hard pressed to find another collaboration that's anywhere near as exciting as this one...#VOMITSTEP
