Savoy Serves Up Some Funk in Living Color

I love it when a band who is known for a certain type of sound switches up their style and it makes you re-think the music they're capable of making. That happened tonight with Savoy, who I generally associate with a more electro-rock sound. I'm thinking a song like The Bridge if you're looking for a frame of reference on EDM/Rock. Anyways, their new track, Living Color, breaks out of that mold with a much funkier, mellower vibe. With a vocal assist from Fatherdude, there's a soulful undercurrent throughout the whole track that I'd never expect from Savoy. I'm going to go back to the drawing board on my expectations for their music going forward and chalk this up to a talented trio boldly breaking the mold of preconceived notions. Heads up on their upcoming five song Tomorrow Today, Part 1 EP that will be landing on e-tailers on February 10th...#LivingColor

Savoy Taps Chali 2na of J5 on Love is Killing Me

Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 on an EDM track?!?!? Mind = Blown. He's not someone who I'd peg to fit well with electronic music, but Savoy isn't your average act. After seeing them live at Red Rocks a few months back, I quickly gained a new appreciation for their music. Partnering with one of my favorite lyricists is only going to amplify that love and you better believe Love is Killing Me didn't disappoint.

From the top, there's a soothing vibe to the track led by quiet synths and a high pitched vocal sample. Around the one minute mark, the beat starts gaining some steam, ushering in a substantial bassline and amplified synths. Then Chali comes in and kills it, dropping a stellar verse and making the track seem more Hip Hop than it did when I first started listening. I love collaborations like this that are equal parts awesome and unpredictable. If you like as much as me, head on over to iTunes to check it and the entire four song Thousand Years EP that will be dropping in two weeks. Oh and check the special message brought to you by the dynamic duo...#LoveIsKillingMe

Savoy & Sound Remedy Take Future Bass Higher

I'm still trying to figure out where Future Bass fits into the grand scheme of EDM. Generally, I associate Future Bass with a chill electronic sound with slow, melodic drops. Savoy and Sound Remedy's new track featuring the vocals of Jojee fits my mental model of Future Bass, but they take uplifting to another level.

The track reminds me a lot of Adventure Club because it's half Pure Moods, half ethereal electronics. The track gives off a bright vibe and it helps that the lyrics are motivational and catchy. It's another great reason why I'm looking forward to seeing Savoy and Sound Remedy at Red Rocks in a few weeks...#SavoyRRX

Mo Lasers, Mo Problems is Coming to a City Near You

If it's one thing Savoy does really well, it's make great party music. Their new one, Gin n Chronic stays true to form with speaker rattling bass and attention grabbing synths that maintain a steady flow of energy throughout the track. I really dig the bits of Dubstep sprinkled throughout the track because without it, it may have been a bit repetitive for my liking.

If you're looking for a hype live show to see the next few months, I'd suggest hitching onto the Mo Lasers, Mo Problems tour that is coming to a city near you. Don't be afraid to head on over to their Soundcloud page to cop the track for $free.50 if you're a fan either...#MoLasersMoProblems

Dubstep With Dinosaur Cover Art

When elements like heavy bass, dubstep and trap can all be throw together in one beautiful symphony, you've got my attention. This isn't the first time that Savoy has come through with something this awesome, but they continue to churn out awesome EDM on a consistent basis. It doesn't happen much, but it's usually a good sign when a group goes out of their way to remix their own track. The trio from Brooklyn employed a few epic drops that will make even the most square non-dance music fan nod their head a little bit. You can add me to the list of bloggers who are more than a little excited to hear Savoy's upcoming Self Predator album, due out on January 14th. Just cranked up the volume on this guy and that was one of the better decisions I've made the past 24 hours...#ImInNeed

Savoy Are Personal Legends

So a couple months back my cousin Andy schooled me on an EDM blindspot I had in the form of @SAVOY. You need not look father than their Twitter slogan of "We make music for people who like to hang out at the mall..." to gain an appreciation for them. Long story short they just released a free Personal Legend EP two weeks ago and it's been on heavy rotation on my cardio mix the past week.

What's unique about The Bridge are the energetic horns throughout the track. It's almost as if the horns took the place of where the hook should be, which was kinda cool actually. Matter of fact, the four song EP as a whole is very much worth a listen. You don't usually get free music this in general, so go thank them by checking them out on tour...#Lasers
