"I Make Her Call Me BB King, Cause I Give Her the Blues"

All Outkast fans just jumped out of their collective seats and screamed "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!" For the first time in what seems like years, Three Stacks and Daddy Fat Sacks were featured on the same track. The only problem is, @BigBoi's verse (which was originally supposed to be the on the original Pink Matter on @frank_ocean's Channel Orange) sounds about as cut and pasted in as it actually was.

I say actually was because the duo from Outkast didn't record in studio together and Big Boi's verse has a very different tone to it. His verse lacks that same vulnerability that Frank's and Andre's had. Don't get me wrong, it's an extremely well thought out, cleverly sexual verse, but it takes on a pimpin' stance not displayed in the other verses.

I know beggars can't be choosers, so at least we can all hope that this leads to more great future music from the fellas from Stankonia...#PinkMatter

"Life Goes on Pimpin', the Wise Don't Doubt it"

It's not a common thing for someone to characterize a track as easy-listening rap, but I'm going to put that label on @frank_ocean's new one Blue Whale. Similar to the way Drake always goes back and forth between Hip Hop and R&B, I feel like Frank wants to be regarded as more than just a vocalist. In other words, he's got a Hip Hop side and can willingly weave together an introspective story about anything from family to the finer things that life is now affording him.

You can bet that Channel Orange selling over 300k is helping out Frank's lifestyle. Sometimes a stream of consciousness Hip Hop track can be perfect for getting a lot of inner thoughts off the chest. As jumpy and scatterbrained as the song comes off, it's never a bad thing when an artist reaches out to give fans a glimpse into their thoughts. What I hope is that more easy listening Hip Hop is on the horizon...#TakeNoteHipHop

"Miami, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Spain, Lost"

After a few laps around Channel Orange, I feel like I'm now comfortable picking a favorite. There's just something about Lost that I find myself singing every time I listen to it. The beat has a happy-go-lucky, cheerful vibe to it that Frank plays off of well with his soulful harmony sprinkled throughout. The picture he paints of a woman truly struggling to find herself everywhere she goes is a story that will probably resonate with a lot of people. No matter where you go, if your lifestyle is the same, you'll always find yourself getting caught up and somehow lost.

In case you missed it, Channel Orange made a huge first week cannonball splash on Billboard, landing at #2. For those keeping score at home, he sold 131,000 digital copies solely on the iTunes store, meaning big box retail outlets haven't even had a chance to put his album out on shelves yet. Kudos to Frank, that's a statement in and of itself. I can't think of many other artists I'd rather support right now than @frank_ocean for a lot of reasons. This week it's his music, which will hopefully rise to #1 by next week...#GoCopChannelOrange

Frank Ocean and Andre 3000
Believe in Pink Matter

Now that @frank_ocean's studio debut Channel Orange is a week away from being released, I feel like it's my job to give you a reason to cop it if you were on the fence. Why is it my job to try and get you to buy it you ask? Well...it's not, but I do respect the hell out of him as a person and artist and as a result feel inclined to be supportive of his music.

To this date, nobody in Hip Hop or R&B has had the balls to openly admit to the world that they are homosexual. That changed last week when Frank shared a long, deeply personal and introspective story about how he once fell in love with another man. Sure, Hip Hop and black culture as a whole has seemingly begun to embrace homosexuality the past few years with Obama leading the way, but that doesn't make his open declaration any easier I'd imagine. I'm hoping more people follow the lead that Jay-Z and Beyonce took when they openly came out in ardent support of Frank.

Even though we all seem to feel like we know Frank a little better after reading his innermost feelings, one thing that hasn't changed is his ability to make great music. His new track below with Three Stacks is all the proof you need to back up my previous sentence. The smooth, jazzy feel of the track works extremely well with Frank's high octane vocals and Andre's quirky, off the wall verse. They're a match made in collaboration heaven stylistically with both preferring to pave their own way rather than follow the path previously traveled.

I'm not even close to at a point yet where I'd feel comfortable picking a favorite on Channel Orange, but tonight Pink Matter is the best I got. Not too bad for a Tuesday night dominated by the #ASG...

Tune in to Channel Orange for Pyramids

Ever since Nostalgia Ultra caught fire and began the cult following of @frank_ocean, we've been waiting for a debut studio album. It would appear we may get our wish soon with Frank's Channel Orange due out on July 17th. Feel free and peruse the trailer below...
What's unique and even a little alarming is Pyramids is every bit of ten minutes long! It goes from melodic to groovy with a little bit of electronics and plenty of smooth rhythms to end the track. In wondering where he's going with his lead single, I'm quickly excited because of the tweet he let loose last week.
Sounds like Frank is hyping up the live version, which piques my interest a bit. We'll see if I can get out and see him during his Channel Orange tour this summer. I'd suggest you do the same and if you're still wondering who he is as you're reading this then you must not have attended the Church in the Wild...#GetWithTheProgram
