CyHi Holds Down the A-Town Like a Prynce

"Ridin' in the Cutlass smokin' on a black,

Man it don't get mo' Decatur than that!"

If you weren't sure whether or not Hotlanta was in fact the epicenter of Southern Hip Hop, your mind will be made up after listening to @cyhitheprynce's new ATL anthem. We've heard the rep yo home town team track like @slimthugga did for the Houston Texans and the rep yo state track like @DAREALPETEY did with Raise Up, but the attempts to uplift a large city as a whole have been few and far between. And that's probably for good reason because the absolute last thing you'd ever want to be known for is not repping your city to the fullest.

In other words, it takes some balls to try and cook up anthem that a city known for Hip Hop will be impressed by. With the help of two of Decatur's most notable alumni @bobatl and @iamtravisporter, Stone Mountain native CyHi was able to step up to the plate. I use the baseball reference because the Braves are mentioned quite bit on the track with Chipper Jones getting a special shout out. What will end up instilling the most pride is the Tomahawk Chop sample on the beat. Sure it helps that Bobby Ray and CyHi both killed their verses, but you can only do so much wrong with a dope beat like the one on A-Town. I wish I could come through with a production credit, but Google let me down. What I do know is that this is the first single off CyHi's new mixtape titled The Ivy League Club, so keep an eye out for that...#ComingSoon

Videos of the Week March 30th

After watching trailer #2 of Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming movie The Dictator, I find myself getting reeled in. I had no idea @john_c_reilly, Anna Faris, and even better, Jason Mantzoukas(aka Raffi from The League) are in the movie. I was 50/50 on Borat, but this one looks like it has potential beyond the sometimes tiresome awkward situational humor that Sacha is known for.

You need to see @drake's impersonation of @liltunchi too. Not only is it on point, he's got his whole joking to serious demeanor down to a T! That's good stuff, almost as good as this tonight...#CyaThere

Lots of new media from a lot of my favorites that are releasing albums soon like T.I., Big K.R.I.T. and R Les. Don't sleep on that in studio MPC remix of Drake's Crew Love by @MeLoXTRA. That mix was interesting and dope all at once the way he put the samples together. Also, if you don't at least crack a smile when you watch three year old Marek rocking out and damn near memorizing word for word Sexy and I Know It, then you're no friend of mine. Kids really are under-rated sources for entertainment...#Truth

"I’m in a Hot Wheel and I’m Driving Real Fast"

After a few more listens to @tip's new mixtape, I may have settled on a favorite track. Whether it be a mixtape or studio album, a common practice seems to put an intro followed by two of the best album or mixtape's top singles at tracks #2 and #3. Knowing that I naturally gravitate toward the "first impression singles" in those top 3 slots...especially when I see it features @IAmTravisPorter, @DROPOLO and @producertminus on the beat like Hot Wheels does.

The track is every bit authentic Southern trap Hip Hop with every verse marked by exaggerated southern drawls. Add to it a catchy as hell upbeat instrumental and you've got a great follow up track to the hyped up title track with Jeezy. I'm pretty sure every media outlet has leaked and posted that track already, so I'm sticking to the off the beaten path tracks that you might miss even if you check the internet daily for new music like me. It's what small time bloggers like me gotta do to differentiate from the Hip Hop blog heavyweights that have a staff and budget rather than a one man army like my own little piece of Hip Hop real estate on the internet...#InternetRealEstateWins

If you haven't already, please do yourself a favor and cop the mixtape at one of my favorite mixtape outlets here, here or even here if you want to get straight to the point. It's free on all three links, which is just part of the awesomness of Hip Hop...#FreeWinsInTheLongRun

Videos of the Week

Lot of Cudi this week and if you're not in the mood for a Steven Segal esque, me against the world beat down, then his new video for Mr. Rager may not be for you. I still love that Skylar Grey track and top 5 beat of 2011 by Alex da Kid on Invisible. Oh yea, that new J Cole is dope too, I might just have to go see him in Philly when he comes around in about a month...

"Get Drunk, Get Sober, Then My Day Start Over Again..."

This one kinda has that feel good college summer anthem sorta feel...think I Love College from Asher Roth. Definitely takes me back to those late summer August days/nights where the only question was where are drinkin' and what time are the girls comin' over? Put it this way, whola lotta people are gonna be vibin' out to the nostalgic, feel good vibe of this hopefully emerging track off their upcoming Mixtape Proud to be a Problem.

Peep the trailer for the Mixtape...wait since when do Mixtapes get trailers?

After a quick listen of that tape, I'll admit, I kinda like these three crazy ATLiens that make up the group Travis Porter. Between Ali, Quez and Strap, it's clear they've got a hyped up, energetic feel to their brand of Hip Hop. They make that fun party music that's in your face and tempting for radio stations to push. The hook on the first track Over Again will suck you IN, I'm tellin' you..

"I wake up in the morning, brush my teeth and wash my face,
and my day begins, invite over some lady friends,
get drunk, get sober and my day starts over again,
then it starts over again, get drunk, get sober,
and my day starts over again,
I wake up 'bout a quarter to ten, then my...then my...
then my day starts over again"

Kinda crazy how many mixtapes they've put out without getting much attention...that all is gonna change after this Mixtape. What's different? Well...in my modest opinion, Kane Beatz or Mr. "Kane is in the building n*****" think here, here and here. Yea, three of the top songs the past three months...three of my hands down favorites between Mixin' Up the Medicine and Bedrock.

As much Drake, Kanye, Eminem, T.I. and Cool Kids material that have dropped in the last week, I've still kept this in heavy rotation, which says a lot. Give it a listen, it'll blend well with that jungle juice you got mixed over there----->>> (________)

You know I couldn't just leave you with that one song considering I gave the whole mixtape a spin. This second one might actually get more plays that the one above it's a toss up, but it's just as catchy and laid back as Over Again. Get a second coat of that Georgia drawl and swag on this one...and of course it helps that Kane is in fact...in the building.....
