Now you may look at the videos below and not recognize too many familiar names or songs, but it's probably one of my favorite Friday video posts in quite a while. For starters, you've got the delightfully country mud/proud redneck fest that is @Yelawolf's Let's Roll video. Coming in right behind that you'll find the @kfuckingp Eastbound and Down Season 3 trailer (coming Feb 19th) and quite possibly the most entertaining Hip Hop artist (@playboytre) going OFF on some dude who decided to hate on his birthday party. If you don't like vulgar, in your face, creative insults delivered in countrayass tone then you should probably skip over that one. In other words, plenty of variety below folks, hope this signifies a fun start to the weekend...#LetsGetDrunk

It's rare for a completely unheard of artist to come out of the blue with a track that makes Hip Hop as a whole stop walking and acknowledge it's presence. It's rare, but not impossible, especially if you're name is @1YUNGCHRIS and you managed to entice fifteen (@cyhidaprynce, @YOUNGJEEZY, @BUNBTRILLOG, @twistagmg, @Doseworld, @bobatl, @BIGSEAN, @CORYMOMUSIC, @corygunz, @nelly_mo, @TRAEABN, @wakaflockabsm, @Wale, @RealWizKhalifa and @YOGOTTIKOM) noteworthy Hip Hop artists to join the cause on the extended remix. IDGAF what Hip Hop track I'm listenin' to, if it has a very simple beat and lyrics that aren't thought provoking in the least, it's just too much. It's like going to Coldstone and getting a Gotta Have It size, you feel me? I damn near had to delete half my hard drive to clear space for this monstrous 29.3 MB track and even more alarming, I managed to run about a mile and a half just to this remix. I exaggerate, but sill, unless it's a techno/dance track, it shouldn't be half as long as 12 mins 47 sec.
Needless to say, if I wasn't thoroughly annoyed with this track from hearing it everywhere I go, I was at the end of the extended remix. For all you folks who Googled this and are wondering what the hell "racks on racks racks on racks" means, they are referring to bundles of money in thousand dollar amounts. In other words, 1 rack is $1000, so racks on racks refers to this picture of YC below with the stacks of $1000 on top of each other...
I'll admit though, on first listen, I fully understood why the track blew up. It's a simple pleasure, even for the most sophisticated Hip Hop fan. The bouncy beat, non-stop repeatability, creates a fun, dumbed down feel that keeps it simple, which can be good sometimes. Shoot even the producer on the track, @SONNYDIGITAL was completely unknown to most of Hip Hop until this track. Time will tell if this turns into a one hit wonder effort, but I'd rather be a has been then a never was. Peep the video, which managed to top @106andpark today...

The original track is off of the @DJGREGSTREET hosted Got Racks mixtape that dropped back in early April. Universal Records liked Yung Chris enough to sign him, so maybe there's more heat to come. Time will tell, til then feel free to catch up on all that is racks below...

I'll be the first to admit, if you were to meet me in person and were strictly judging me on first impression, you wouldn't be like "Man he looks like someone who would love Hip Hop." I'm fully aware that I don't fit the stereotype, but I don't really give a shit because Hip Hop has always been a type of music I've been able to relate to and draw inspiration from. It's the reason I'm writing down what I'm thinking right now and sharing with you tracks that move me and provoke me to pen my thoughts so that maybe you'll feel the same way when you hear it.
Like, for example, the track below, where @TRAEABN gave me a not so subtle reminder of how I became such an avid listener (big difference from being a fan) of Hip Hop. There's somethin' about the slow, loud, heavy, screwed up sound of Texas Hip Hop that has always appealed to me. Robert Davis has always been, in my eyes, the king of the south, producing a sound unlike anything Hip Hop had previously heard. It S.U.C.s that the best artists that have come out of Texas fell in love with the TexasTea, which capped their career potential and influence of the Texas Hip hop movement at the knees.
Luckily, we have holdovers from the Screw era to carry the torch on like Trae tha Truth and Fat Pat on tracks like Texas. The track is off of Trae's new mixtape he dropped last Thursday titled 48 Hours, which is a compilation of mostly new freestyles from Frazier. The screwed sample, mixed with slow bass and raspy delivery of Trae, make for a picture perfect ode to the biggest, slowest Hip Hop state of the union. The track represents so fully the essence of what Texas Hip Hop should sound like, I'm feelin' like it's worthy of bein' thrown on a Best of Texas mix. You better believe this will be the first song I'm playin' once the snow melts and I'm able to subject anyone within earshot to some secondhand rap...#BeatsInTheDeck
