Videos of the Week July 29th

Any week that features a new seven minute video from Kanye is probably a noteworthy week in a lot of peoples' eyes. It's hard to ignore how cinematic his videos end up being, but somehow they all seem to fit the dark, edginess of his lyrics. In his new video for Wolves, he shed tears, he walks around in expensive jackets, his wife makes a cameo and there are plenty of models walking around in black and white attire. Have your opinions about Kanye, but he makes provocative act in a lot of ways.

In the land of other videos, there was a whole lot of entertainment on Fallon. Starting with G-Eazy and Tory Lanez's performance of Drifting on Fallon, Jimmy brought out the A list this week. If actors are more your bag, Will Smith did his best to show what it means to make an epic entrance and Matt Damon is a really convincing liar, but Jimmy has an uncanny ability to sense the truth. If only we could say the same for Matt who fell hard for a lie. Rounding out the week was an interesting collabo between JoJo and Wiz Khalifa. I've always been a big fan of JoJo, so seeing an edgier side of her with Wiz was the most entertaining video of my week. It probably won't be for you, but hey, some of us crush hard and don't let go of said crush years later...#FApologies

JoJo Will Show You How It's Done

In my humble (daily) opinion, matching up @JoJoistheway and @OVO40 on a single together is a good look. Seeing that 40 is @Drake's right hand man when it comes to production, playing the R&B card isn't a stretch at all. I've said before that I'm not afraid to admit being a fan of JoJo and even though Demonstrate probably wouldn't rank in my top five favorite tracks of hers, it's still a solid all around effort.

The track will serve as the second single off Jumping Trains following her previously released Disaster. No word on a concrete release date on her Fall album, but it's becoming increasingly clear that she's breaking out the big guns this time around with @timbaland, @boi1da and @RodneyJerkins all making appearances on the album. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until August 28th to cop the track below on iTunes, but until then feel free to sample below. #TasteBeforeYouBuy

JoJo's Sexy To Me

Suffice to say, any new track that I find is produced by Danja is an automatic post. Simply put, dude knows how to handle his craft and make high energy tracks that suck you in and make you move. This time it's @JOJOISTHEWAY's turn to ride the Danjatrain to success with her new club hit Sexy To Me. Even though I've always caught hell from the fellas for openly supporting her first two albums JoJo and The High Road, which we released when she was 14 and 16 respectively, it hasn't stopped me from writing about her music. You see over 18 women drooling over Bieber, so why is it not ok for me to be a fan of JoJo's music when she's just as talented? #DoubleStandard

Matter of fact I saw an interesting de-motivational poster that touches on this very subject. Don't even get me started on Twilight...
I digress, but what's really important is that you know JoJo has an album coming out titled Jumping Trains due out in April. In case you missed it, back in September she released her lead single from the album titled Disaster, which served as more of a powerfully emotional ballad and showed off her vocals a bit.

If you were to ask me, I'd pick her new single over the lead single, but I'm biased because of the Danja beat. Still with names like @only1darkchild, @boi1da, and @timbaland listed on the production credits for her new album, you better believe I'll eagerly waiting for April to come...#DontSleepOnIt

Who Rocked it Better? Lil Eddie vs JoJo

Complete toss up between one of my favorite demo singers/songwriters Lil Eddie and @JoJoistheway, who I've always been a big fan of on the low. I say on the low because when she was 16 she released High Road, which was a great album front to back, but I got some strange looks from the fellas when I spoke highly of it. To each their own man, I'ma live my life, she's got a great voice and is a talented vocalist!

Both are great, under appreciated vocalists, so picking a favorite version isn't something I'd feel comfortable doing because (for once) I don't want to influence your opinion either way. Like me, you should add both to your newest playlist and hopefully gain a respect for both because both versions are great in their own way. Heads up for that new JoJo album Jumping Trains out early 2012. It'll be her first album in six years and you can cop her new single Disaster on iTunes.

Not Too Many Can Do It Better Than Timbaland...

There are times I hear a song and no matter what I'm doing or where I'm at, I have to share it with someone. I had that feeling multiple times tonight when I took my first lap around Timbaland's new album Shock Value 2.

The first of these can't stop listening to tracks was Timbo's collaboration with one of my few pop infatuations, JoJo. I'm not above admitting that her High Road album was one of my favorites for months on end and so what if she was 16 years old when she released it. For those of you still lookin' down, she'll be 19 years old in a couple weeks and she's get her teenage footprints allllll over the best track on Timbo's new album. The track is titled Lose Control and it's hotter than the middle of a bonfire in the summertime. Do yourself a favor and give yourself a listen cause I was very skeptical that he could top Morning After Dark, but he more than did...

Timbaland feat JoJo - Lose Control Hottest Song Off Shock Value 2!!!

The second diamond in the rough is the collabo with Daughtry. The song starts off with a mid-tempo percussion laden Hip Hop beat, but quickly takes a turn for contemporary rock when the guitar riff and Daughtry come in. What hooked me was the raw energy of the chorus, how it turns into a head nodding guitar riff that Daughtry shines all over, making it seem stupid if Timbo were to even consider any other artist for this track. Great great song all together, fully displaying how refined Timbaland can sound regardless of genre.

Hooott Track!!!

The third and final hidden gem on the album is the last song, Symphony. Let's just say the beat is disgusting, aka what we've come to expect from one of the most consistent producers in the history of music. I dare someone to argue a counterpoint to that statement. This one sounds like one of his old school Timbaland and Magoo beats...just a great instrumental to go bar after bar...and while I've always been a big fan of D.O.E./Attitude and sung their praises as being underrated Timbaland proteges, this beat could make Diddy sound like a Hall of Fame rapper...just sayin. Check it out...
