Videos of the Week July 15th

With late night TV continuing to be on a bit of a summer break, music again dominated the top 5 videos this week. First off, if you didn't catch the ESPYs, it turned out to be a heavy show overall. Lots of cultural messages and heartfelt stories throughout. Among those stories was a new song by Chance the Rapper's new song he made as tribute to Mohammed Ali. What a great performance to properly commemorate a true legend.

In the land of music videos, DJ Snake, BANKS and Tiesto came through with new videos. In DJ Snake's case, conflict led to a fiery ending. In Tiesto and John Legend's case, there was some cost saving holograms and dirty dancing in the streets. Then there was the BANKS video. Not sure I have words for what that was all about. Lots of creepy images, caressing of manakins, and an overall sultry vibe, which she's become known for. She's the queen of dirty, seductive lyrics and she delivered just that with her new video. Last, but not least, there was the ODESZA after movie at Red Rocks. Having now been to Red Rocks and seen a show, I can now sort of imagine how awesome it would have been to see them perform a set there. Such a great performance at a legendary venue...#RedRocks

Videos of the Week July 18th

Well, let's call a spade a spade, this week's videos is more or less a Drake ESPY highlight reel. This was the first time Drake has gotten a big time hosting gig and it seems like he overwhelmingly knocked it out of the park. I'd say the biggest surprise for me was Drake and Chris Brown getting along and banding together in a skit. Word came last week that they were working together on music, but it seems like they've finally buried the hatchet.

Any award show host has to have enough clout to feel comfortable making fun of a lot of famous people and that's exactly what Drake did. He roasted all runners up with his Honorable Mention ballad, delivered an entertaining Manny Pacquiao impression, burned Danica and threw Macklemore under the bus while he was at it. It all resulted in a really entertaining night with plenty of great highlights. The only other really noteworthy video of the week was Weird Al's Handy, which spoofs Iggy Azalea's Fancy. Nobody does parody videos like Wierd Al and it's great to see he's still got it...#ImSoHandy

Videos of the Week July 4th

More of an audio focused videos of the week with a few promos and funny videos sprinkled in. Only Skrillex would make a sweet video game-y promo for a four song remix EP. Along those same lines, I will definitely be tuned into the Espys for Drake hosting. We'll see if he can hold his own stand up wise on the intro and between awards. My guess is he's good friends with so many of the athletes that he should have the green light to drop a few one liners.

As far as funny in concerned, seeing Kendrick Lamar rock karaoke was an entertaining watch. Not sure whether he tried to be intentionally rough around the edges on songs, but that's what happens in real life so you never know. My favorite video of the week, was hearing Dave Chappelle's five minute routine on Donald Sterling. Man, if anybody is questioning whether or not he's back, all my doubts are now gone. Finally, if you've ever had a jealous ex, you'll be able to empathize with Cazzette's Sleepless video. Happy 4th of July y'all...#4thOfJulyVideo
