"If I'm Evil, We'll Be Going Down"

Wooow! I'm at a loss for words after listening to what RAC did to James Vincent McMorrow's Evil. Nothing against the original version, but the quiet, peaceful, chill that RAC was able to impart on the track is downright amazing. The vocals from James are filled with so much soul, it must have been an easy sell for RAC to work his magic on the Evil Remix.

And work his magic is exactly what he did, imparting an emotion dripped instrumental that sways between gentle guitar plucks and a dramatic string arrangement. Part of me was wondering when the hell the beat was going to drop on the remix, but that's where the genius lies. RAC kicked open a door of possibilities with this one, which means I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board on the type of music I thought he was capable of making...#Evil

"The Rich Have Their Rituals, We Got Pills and Visuals"

You can always count on RAC to deliver something fun and upbeat. Lucky for us, he just put together an entire hour's worth of the Indie funk goodness in the form of Ego. It's tough picking a favorite after one lap, but his newest gem with MNDR is a good start. It's an airy track whose lyrics are just as uplifting as the airy beat. Armed with a clear message about being yourself, there's plenty of symmetry between the vibe of the track and the words being communicated throughout it. As a side note, I really dig the cover art scheme of the album with the four singles being a collective representation of the the tracks as a whole. Check the cover art below and note how the art above is the lower right quadrant. Y'all know the drill, Soundcloud, Spotify, or iTunes if you feel so inclined...#Unusual

RAC Chills Out Vice and Jon Bellion's Obsession

Trop House isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I think of RAC (Remix Artist Collective), but they sure as hell pulled it off with their new remix of Vice and Jon Bellion's obsession. It's sort of a mix of Chill House and Trop House, but the airy vibes are prevalent throughout. Piggybacking the stellar vocals from the original, RAC didn't dramatically flip the script on the original, but the House influence on the beat illuminates the remix. It's cliche to call it a summer track, but you can obviously picture listening during on a beach day or in the background when you're grilling out with friends. That's what I'll be doing tonight and I can promise you this remix will be spun a few times...#Obsession

Avicii & RAC Kick Start Two Beautiful Heartbeats

I'll admit, today I punted. Generally, I constrain myself to picking one, and only one, song to post per day. Mostly due to time constraints, but also to ensure that what I post about is something I generally like quite a bit.

So what could cause such indecision that a toss up was warranted? Well, when two Grammy award nominated producers attack the same track in two different ways, sometimes ties work out for the best. I say tie because it was damn near impossible to pick a favorite between Avicii and RAC's remixes of Morten and Frida Sundemo's Beautiful Heartbeat. On one hand, you've got the dramatic, slow vocal build up leading up to a characteristically melodic, progressive house chord progression on Avicii's version. On the other, you've got funky, bass heavy deep house mix delivered by RAC. Both showcase the original's stellar vocals, but go two different, equally likable directions. Flip a coin or cop both of them both, you can't go wrong here...#BeautifulHeartbeat

"Magic Hour With Super Powers, We Can Be Famous"

Everything that RAC touches seems to turn to gold. They don't make a type of music, specifically, other than good music. Their tracks are generally upbeat and addictive, which are two adjectives I'd use to describe Magic Hour.

Sure, it's as sugary as bubble gum coated in sugar, but my goodness does it go down smooth. Led by the angelic voice of Little Boots and a gradual guitar build up that gives way to a celebratory hook, there's a lot to like. The gentle synth ride out on the beat is even more easy-going if you're in the mood for something you can slowly nod your head to. Not sure if you're picking up on this, but there's a good chance I'm going to be heading over to iTunes to cop this one in a minute...#MagicHour

"We're Livin' Out the Back of the Car"

There's being poor and then there's being proud to be poor. RAC's newest one with Nate Hendricks falls under the latter of those two with a jubilant pop anthem about living out the back of the car. In sort of a Indie pop sort of way, Back of the Car makes for a perfect road trip track. For over four minutes you feel like they're saying the exact same phrase, but it's such a cool mix of chill and happy that it's easy to give it a pass. For me, it's the acoustic guitar during the hook that pushes the track toward it's infectious heights. Windows down, rocking this one the way to Happy Hour tomorrow...make it happen...#BackOfTheCar

Some Carefree Music From Two Great Up and Comers

Seeing that both Miami Horror and RAC are noteworthy names on this section of the internet, a collaboration between the two elicited some genuine excitement tonight. What I heard wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but RAC's mix of Wild Motion is about as carefree as a dude smoking a blunt walking down the street. It's smooth, funky and Indie to the point that you can envision hipsters singing along with every lyric. If you're not wearing a smile and starting to get ready for the weekend after a few listens, then you may want to hit the next blog button...#WildMotion

Feel Good Rhythms is All RAC Knows

I haven't been aware of RAC for very long, but I'm continuing to be impressed by his organically positive music. His new track, Tear You Down, featuring Alex Ebert is half Indie, half electronic dance and 100% easy listening. Prior to the track, I had never heard of Alex Ebert, but I now know that he's the lead singer of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes. I can't say I like this as much as RAC's previous single Let Go, but when combined, both make me want to go and cop his new seven song Strangers pt. 1 EP that hit iTunes today. If you haven't heard of Remix Artists Collective, you need to throw a dash into your latest playlist to spice it up...#StrangersPt1

"Let It Go, Let Go, of Your Fire"

What the hell, might as well keep the feel good vibe going this week with RAC (Remix Artists Collective)'s new uplifting single Let Go. The track, featuring vocals from Kele Okereke (Bloc Party) and MNDR, is a mixture of get up out yo seat funk and dance like nobody's looking pop. I really appreciate the subtle intricacies of the percussion that take this track from being run of the mill to a true standout.

The great part about Let Go is that it's original material from RAC, rather than the usual remix of a song you've already heard of. It's usually a big step for any artist, so when someone does it really well, it makes this nostalgic DJ a happy camper. Keep an ear out for RAC's upcoming Don't Talk To EP that is scheduled to hit iTunes on October 1st...#LetGo

Phantogram - When I'm Small (RAC mix)

@phantogram is a co-ed duo from New York, that is tough to describe, but easy to enjoy. They share vocals, which adds a dimension to their sound, but the beautiful @sarahbarthel primarily takes the reigns. In an attempt to categorize them, I found myself at a loss for words, so I've found with bands like this, it's best to let the music do the talking.

When I'm Small was one of my favorite tracks of 2010, and this remix from RAC adds another dimension to it. (RAC or Remix Artist Collective consists mainly of three guys: Andre Anjos (@andreanjos), Andrew Maury (@aemaury) and Karl Kling (@karlkling) that specialize in remixes, garnering a ton of attention for their work with @RaRaRiot, @TheShins, @radiohead, and @thisisblocparty). The track Mouthful of Diamonds was the 2nd part of Phantogram's 1-2 punch off their debut release, Eyelid Movies, that kept me coming back for more. Give it a listen!
