Weezy's Homies Still Go Stupid

While @liltunchi has been busy getting denied court side seats at Thunder playoff games, he's been simultaneously letting loose new music from his upcoming tenth studio album I Am Not A Human Being 2. Serving as the lead single from the sequel, the @srbeats and @SAROMSOUNDZ produced track My Homies Still will play well as soon as it finds its way onto top 40 radio. It helps that @bigsean chipped in a verse and added his well know "go stupid, go stupid" that was heard in Dance A$$. Between the name brand power of Lil Wayne, the booty shaking beat and a little lyrical familiarity, it all combines well for getting everyone excited for Weezy's new album.

One thing I found interesting was the sample on the beat that was partially taken from Lil Wayne's unreleased track Pump That Bass (below)...

I always loved that track and wished it had surfaced for mainstream consumption. There's a throwback feeling to the dumbed down, bass heavy beat that really grew on me.

Update: It sounds like YMCMB ended up pulling out of the Hot 97 Summer Jam tonight. The cause of the abrupt cancellation of all Young Money related sets (Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj). It sounds like a united front too as @nickiminaj took to twitter and backed up Wayne's decision. Apparently the quick pull out was over Hot 97 DJ @Rosenbergradio making the comment dissing Nicki Minaj saying, "where is all my real Hip-Hop fans, not that starships..." A couple hours ago Peter made light of the situation via twitter by saying "Tonight just got interesting G." That's probably the understatement of the year when you lose two headlining acts.

We'll see what the fallout ends up being, but it's probably not a good idea to make your highest drawing clientele upset because the fans are going to be upset when they come to watch Wayne and Nicki and hear that your words prevented them from going on stage. I hope more details come out though because on the surface, it looks like it's turned into a seemingly sensitive week for Lil Wayne. "Jets Fly Private, S5 Hybrid, Baby Test Drive My Whip"

A couple weeks ago @SLAUGHTERHOUSE debuted their newest single My Life to mixed reviews. After listening to it for a few weeks, it's become clearer to me that the group as a whole just isn't meant for the radio. The unfortunate consequence of not always translating to radio is that it usually affects the bottom line of record sales, but I want make sure and clarify my opinion that not being meant for top 40 radio isn't a slight at all to their overall talent. In fact, I probably have more respect for their music because it has the depth that generally repeatable, bubble gum pop tracks will always lack.

The main beef I have with Slaughterhouse's choice of singles is that their verses aren't as substantial. I say that because they're known for witty, sometimes edgy lyrics and that gets lost when shooting for middle of the road content meant for the radio. Using the song below as an example, it was tough finding a witty quoteable for the title of the post, which is rare for any of their songs. Still, having @ceelogreen on the track gives it a fighting chance for top 40 success. Radio worthiness aside, they are releasing a video for My Life in the coming weeks and earlier this week @joebudden gave a behind a behind the scenes interview with MTV to describe the video concept...

Their new album, Welcome to: Our House is due out in about three weeks on June 12th. Unlike most albums I'll be immediately sifting through the non-singles to find my favorite track. Can't wait to hear the end product and influence that their new record company will have on their overall sound...#ShadyRecords

Nicki Minaj is Cocked Back and Roman Reloaded

Staying true to the new trend that most artists are following in order to get everything they can out of an album, @nickiminaj will be releasing a Roman Reloaded version of her debut album Pink Friday. No word yet on whether Roman Reloaded will be a re-release with a couple new singles or all new material, but I'm going to put my chips on the re-release based on the title. In case you're wondering why Roman keeps popping up in all of her music, it just so happens to be her alter ego Roman Zolanski. It's always fun to have a gay male alter ego, everyone should have one right? If you want to hear her/he/it in action, see her track Roman's Revenge with @liltunchi.

Safe to say that Nicki goes absolutely ham sammich on Roman in Moscow, taking no prisoners and sounding like a female version of Eminem. I've never been a huge fan of artists cursing every other word on a track because it detracts from the substance and makes a track difficult to take seriously, but I can appreciate her uniquely ferocious delivery. I fully understand why Nicki is so successful and popular and I think she deserves it by filling a void that was vacant in Hip Hop. It's a genre that carers to the original and audacious, which is why she was able to ascent so quickly.

Roman Reloaded is scheduled to hit stores on Valentines day on February 14th, 2012. Shouts out to @srbeats and @saromsoundz on the production of the single below. High octane beat for a take no prisoners style lyrical performance by Nicki. Seems about right, go check it out on iTunes...
