Old Skool Hip Hop Meets New School House

Suffice to say, there's a growing thirst for anything ZHU's name is attached to. His brand of funky House music is like none other and has continued to captivate listeners for the better part of a year. This time he hooked up with Trombone Shorty and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony...yes, that same Bone Thugs we all loved back in the 90s. Interesting doesn't begin to scratch the surface when considering how random and awesome a collaboration like this could be.

It's as Deep House as you'd expect from ZHU, yet both Krayzie Bone and Bizzy Bone felt right at home over the wobbly bassline. I don't know much about Trombone Shorty, but I'm going to assume it was him on horns throughout the track. Hold Up Wait a Minute is the epitome of lounge music and I love that it pulls in a wide range of contributions you wouldn't expect would sound good. If you're like me, you're itching for that Skrillex collabo to drop. Although it's only a seven song EP and we've already heard four tracks, it still feels like we have so much to look forward to...#GenesisSeries

And just when you thought Kenny Powers was gone for good, here he comes for Season 4 of Eastbound and Down. Honestly, I'm more than a little intrigued to see where the plot ventures off to now that Kenny seems to be done with baseball. As long as it involves Danny McBride being a complete as$hole, it'll find a way to be entertaining.

Not sure if you've caught it or not, but Drake interviews have been aplenty of late with Nothing Was the Same on the horizon. Just over two weeks left til it drops, which explains why he's saying things like "I aspire to be Marvin Gaye." It's nice to hear that he's not ever going to ever make a 100% Hip Hop album and stray away from what got him to the point he's at now. I still wish I coulda made it to the Made in America Festival last weekend. Ah, how I miss Philly! I've posted a few Decoded videos, but in general I'm a huge fan of the Life & Times series. Oh and Bone Thugs is back, which is good for Hip Hop in general...#BTNH

Dear 90s Hip Hop fan,

You ever wonder, "man what ever happened to Bone Thugs?" I'll put it this way, you remember when they released BTNH: Resurrection back in 2000? To put things in perspective, they were already coming back thirteen years ago and that was the last time one of their studio albums went platinum. Sure, their Greatest Hits also went platinum in 2004, but still, they haven't created new music like they did in the 1990s in quite a while. Maybe it was the record labels changing, maybe it was because all of the members weren't entirely present during some of the albums between 2000 and 2010, maybe it was because they simply weren't making great music like they used to.

Whatever the reason was, it's in the rear now that their new single Everything 100 dropped. Two decades later, they can still spit in their laid back, easy to understand way that made them the poster child for Hip Hop success in the 1990s. All members are on deck (Bizzy, Flesh, Krayzie, Layzie, Wish) for their new one that features the vocals of Ty Dolla $ign and production on DJ Felli Fel and Wundermine. Word has it the group is releasing the single in preparation for their upcoming Rock the Bells performances. No word of any new music beyond that, but I think we can all come to the consensus that the world could always use more Bone Thugs...#Everything100

Bone Thugs Join the Celebration

In an attempt to take a page out of @timbaland (Timbaland Thursdays) and @kanyewest's (GOOD Fridays) books, @thegame is taking back Sundays with his #SundayService campaign. Simply put, he's going to release a new track every Sunday until his new album Jesus Piece drops on December 11th. For all of you keeping score at home, that's six Sundays, which means we'll be getting six tracks that probably just missed the cut for the album.

When I first posted the original version of Celebration back in August, I mentioned how odd it was hearing Game cover Bone Thugs and Harmony. All that oddity just completely evaporated with the remix below, which actually features the members of @RealBoneThugs. They may be past their prime, but they haven't lost their quiet intensity on the mic. It comes off sounding like a First of tha Monthremix above all, which took me back to the mid-1990s. Not sure about y'all, but Bone Thugs will always be classic to me...#E99Eternal

Other than being a little annoying that the clean tagged version of this track leaked, I'm even more taken aback by the general concept of the track below. It's like @thegame, @liltunchi, @chrisbrown, @tyga and @realwizkhalifa went to Bone Thugs camp this summer and this was the final project. Not only is the hook hella Bone Thugs, every artist on the track somehow does their own Bone Thugs impersonation at some point of the track.

It's somewhere between really awesome and completely random. It's easy to miss Wiz at the end too until you hear his goofy assed stoner laugh. Couldn't mistake that laugh for anything else in this world, so I guess you could say it works like a charm.

No clue where this will ultimately end up, but I'll probably feel more positive about the track when it isn't tagged and edited. For now I'll take it for what it's worth and go listen to some 1st of Tha Month because that's where the mind eminently drifts to when you listen to the track below...#Celebration.
