Videos of the Week March 18th

Skewing a bit heavy on the EDM videos this week, but that's not a problem when they bring the type of energy that the three videos below do. Leading the way is another visual for DJ Snake's Middle featuring a superhero you'd want to cheer for in Josh Hutcherson. You might remember him from Hunger Games? You also might remember this other video for DJ Snake's Middle. Tough call on which is better, but as much as I lot the plot of the the new video, it's hard to argue against Lexi Panterra.

Both collective groups of Steve Aoki/Headhunterz and Baauer/M.I.A./G-Dragon made a convincing case for top music video of the week. If you like extreme sports and balls to the wall EDM, you'll probably side with the Aoki/Headhunterz side. Still, it's hard to go against the bangin' Middle Eastern samples that Baauer brought with his glow stick heavy video for Temple. Aside from music, there were a few Fallon sightings. First, the legendary Roots crew flexed some Irish accents and Black Thought rocked out a few freestyles, which was cool. Brining up the caboose this week was Jesse Eisenberg's spot on Fallon where he talks his basketball game and time spent on the Batman vs Superman set. Rotten Tomatoes still doesn't have a read on the movie, but I'm cautiously optimistic that the movie will be a good watch...#BatmanvSuperman

"Triller Than a Terabyte, Staring in the Blaring Light"

The music label that @techn9ne has built from the ground up is starting to build a legitimate lineup of artists. They've had the talented and underrated @jayrock on the roster for about a year and a half and now they've got a new group of misfits by the name @MAYDAYMUSIC who are starting to make some noise. I say noise because their debut album Take Me To Your Leader just hit last week and it's already getting some positive buzz with DJ Booth giving their album a solid 4 spins. Even better, @StrangeMusicCEO (Travis O'Guin) offered effusive praise in saying that it's the best Strange Music album ever released and going as far as comparing it to Tech N9ne Anghellic. That's a tall order if you're familiar with Tech's music. For a quick intro to their music, check out their track The Ride with @delhiero...
It might as well be @djkhaled week too with all the songs I'm posting that he's involved in. I'd be remiss not to mention Black Thought stealing the show lyrically on the track below. The beat is perfect for his high energy, spitfire flow. Also worth of note is the presence of @JONCONNORMUSIC who absolutely took over SXSW going crew deep all week long. Interesting group of artists that mixes old and new to create a 4 minute combustible, head nodding symphony of lyrical jousts. Yea I'll be captain obvious here, TNT is #Combustible.

Heads Up Fellas...Here Come the Girls...Riding in a Truck...Headed North

Refreshing to give out a little love to one of Philly's own, an artist named Truck North. Being a protégé and frequent collaborator of the legendary and also Philly based Roots Crew is among many of his notable accomplishments. Case in point the collaboration below with The Roots which was a bonus track off of their Rising Down album released in 2008...

When you listen to the track below you'll immediately associate the Hip Hop, band driven style of beat that you'd expect to hear from Black Thought, ?uestlove or even Cody Chestnutt if you want to be thorough. The drummer boy style beginning draws you in and is immediately followed by a funky sax driven Hip Hop head nod worthy beat. Real upbeat and like an F-150, he powers through the beat keeping the energy high and living off the accessible Ernie K Doe 1970's version of Here Come the Girls. Strikingly similar to the original, almost to the point I'd ask Who Rocked it Better?, but neither song is going to become well known to the masses so it would probably end up being a rhetorical question.

If you're wanting to check out more stuff from Truck North, give a listen to his Truck Jewels mixtape. At the very least, give his breakthrough track a listen or two...
