"I Know You, I Know You, Like the Back of My Hand"

I'm a simple man when it comes to EDM. If you can add in one novel element to a run of the mill chord progression, you've got a shot at catching my ear. In this case, Vicetone came correct with a post-drop strings arrangement that delivered the goods. With the help of vocals from Cosmos & Creature, Bright Side amounts to an easy-listening, Top 40 worthy hit. You might even go as far as calling it Pop rather than Progressive House, whatever the case, I'm a fan. If you're wanting more, Vicetone has you covered with a five song Aurora EP due out in early April. You can bet the Dutch duo will be making a few more cameos in this neighborhood between now and then...#BrightSide

Marley's Is This Love Gets a Stellar Update From Vicetone

Risky doesn't begin to explain how dangerous it is to try and re-imagine a Bob Marley classic. There's so much potential for failure and nobody has the audacity to think they can transform something as sacred as a track like Is This Love. All that being said, Vicetone stared down the aforementioned risks and said don't worry guys, I got this.

The resulting remix is nothing short of magical. It manages to capture the nostalgia of the original, while adding in a relaxing chord progression and sped up vocal sample to match the increased tempo. The electronics take the back seat in this "EDM" remix, finding a way to add in just the right amount of rhythm to compliment the vocal highlights from the original. Tip of the cap doesn't do justice to what I just listened to, so let's go with a full on *slow clap* for the Dutch production duo...#IsThisLove

When Music Goes Pitch Black, It Sounds Like This

Switching gears a bit on an EDM tip toward an easygoing progressive house track from Vicetone. While some people are continuing to hype "Newgrass" as the next big thing that appropriately mashed two unrelated genres (Bluegrass and EDM), I'd argue that there's more a much more electronic version of Newgrass that has even more potential. Sure, the Southern sounding vocals on your favorite Avicii tracks can be addicting, but how about what Vicetone did on Pitch Black? You've got the chill acoustic build up, but instead of pop vocals delivering a Top 40 quality hook, he instead inserted this big room, house beat that comes crashing down in a crescendo of cascading electronic goodness.

Basically the new one below is what Newgrass would sound like if electronic music got to do the honors of mixing acoustic guitar into EDM. Maybe I'm nerding out a bit too much with over-analysis, but I love songs like this because it goes in a direction that sounds familiar, but takes the listeners expectations a step further with it's originality. For those of you that want to keep this one all to yourselves, you'll have to continue circulating this one on heavy Soundcloud repeat until January 11th when it drops...#PitchBlack
